No news, but it is the second basho in a row that he did not finish. I am very skeptical that he can live up to his obvious potential in the long run.

Late breaking: Kakuryu kyujo on day 11; Kotomitsuki gets the fusensho.

Confucius said something about a bad fortune would befallen you if you demolish a part of the dohyo....

It says the right knee ligaments so it must have been the other knee that he hurt rather than the one that tore a piece of the dohyo. Since it's only for 10 days, it could not have been that bad though.

It was the right leg dragging behind him that did the dohyo damage. From the pic, it appears that Sakari came down on the leg while the ankle was still on the dohyo surface.

Edit: Confirmed on the banzuke.com video. Looks nasty.

Only 10 days? Perhaps a hyperextension then. (I didn't think the medical staff could give recovery times in increments of other than 3 weeks...)

Thank you, Asojima, for posting this news.

Normally these guys come back so that they just don't fall into the banzuke-gai hell and only to lose rather ignominiously to their opponent but the boys were so fortunate in having arranged to face totally hapless and clueless Persistence regulars Takada and Sakuma who would have no idea what Kachikoshi is even they fell on it by henka.

IIRC these last-bout returnees historically win 90+% of those bouts, exactly because they're always matched against the weakest-possible opponents.

Now that's funny, to lose by fusenpai your "extra" bout (which, as was discussed elsewhere, is a "bonus" and you can only win (if you win it...)).. Maybe Iwashimizu didn't expect to have such and have simply forgotten to show up..?

Thanks again for keeping track of the comings and goings each basho. Without you, we would tend to lose track of the "little guys". >:-(

You're very welcome. (Doing a wave...)

And I appreciate everyone pitching in with corrections when I inevitably mess something up, and with updates when I don't post something fast enough! :-(

I'm sorry I'm confused. I thought he was 2-4 and that day 14 was his 7th match, not an extra one.

I am really worried about him because he did very well in his first 3 basho! He looked really strong in Aki as well! He's so tiny, like a stick... but he has a lot of muscles!

I hope he is ok, I can't find anything out til he comes back to Tokyo!!!
