Onnagumo 4 Posted June 11, 2003 Talk about stress on a car's suspension... :-S (Enjoying a beer...) I don't know what kind of car this is, but a little movie of this victory parade would be a perfect ad for it (Laughing...)
Dejimasama 0 Posted June 12, 2003 Hehehehe perhaps they should look into getting some 4x4 dually Chevy pick ups to carry them in for the parade (Enjoying a beer...)
Dejimasama 0 Posted June 12, 2003 Been meaning to ask this for awhile. Does anyone have some images of Dejima? I have a hard time finding pictures of him.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 12, 2003 I think I posted few images of him earlier to this thread and the ones below are probably the only ones I have which are previously unseen here on this forum. I believe the original scans from which I cropped these were done by Hahanoyama-zeki.
Dejimasama 0 Posted June 12, 2003 (Enjoying a beer...) Thanks so much. Dont get to see them often.
Fujisan 532 Posted June 13, 2003 Interesting picture of Akebono-Isnt that illegal?
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 13, 2003 Interesting picture of Akebono-Isnt that illegal? I don't think he's pulling the other guy from hair if that's what you mean.
Fujisan 532 Posted June 13, 2003 No actually thats not what I meant,at least not the hair on his head-Maybe a little too subtle for you-It looks like a picture from the Karma sutra.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 14, 2003 These scans are from Clyde Newton's book called Dynamic Sumo. Photography is by Gerald J. Toff. First three yokozuna in their youth who have by now retired. First Akebono and then the Hanada brothers. Another yokozuna in his youth, probably 50 kgs lighter than now but undoubtedly you recognize Maru. Two ozeki, current and former. From early or mid-Nineties, I'd say. Muso & Nami. Sorry about the cropping but I can't help it. Finally two yusho winners and moto-sekiwakes. Kotonishiki & Takatoriki. Manekineko 200 Posted June 15, 2003 (Heart) I always love seeing pictures of young actors/sportsmen/rikishi who I know only in their later days. :-D
Fujisan 532 Posted June 15, 2003 They dont seem to have changed that much or is it me? Takanonami is showing his age a bit now comparatively though.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 15, 2003 Here are some B/W images from the aforementioned book. These are past yokozuna except for one Takamiyama image. Futabayama's dohyo-iri. Hitachiyama. Miyagiyama's dohyo-iri from early Showa period. Take note of the double edge of the dohyo. Shimpans used to sit in front of the shihon-bashira pillars. Tachiyama Taiho's dohyo-iri. Moto-sekiwake Takamiyama, current Azumazeki. Tochigiyama. Tochinishiki celebrating yusho. Umegatani II. Wakanohana I's dohyo-iri. Taka's & Waka's uncle and former rijicho. Yoshibayama, the yokozuna whose true potential remained mystery due to a long absence in the service of the Imperial Army (or Navy?).
Zentoryu 154 Posted June 15, 2003 Moto-sekiwake Takamiyama, current Azumazeki. It seems Takamiyama was Toki before Toki was Toki. :-P :-D
Tokimori 0 Posted June 15, 2003 It seems Takamiyama was Toki before Toki was Toki. :-D Toki's sideburns are unbeatable, but these are quite nice... :-P
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 15, 2003 Still few more from Clyde Newton's Dynamic Sumo. Gerald J. Toff's photos again. Kimura Shonosuke (29th? 28th?) Nobori banners outside honbasho venue. This is gozengakari, exceptional dohyo-iri when there's a member of Imperial family present. Instead of forming a circle and thus exposing someone's back to Emperor, rikishi form rows. Look closely at the back row. Three yokozuna-to-be! And unless I'm mistaken, fourth in the row ahead! :-D Excellent image of tsuriyane! And finally yumitori-shiki image. Probably from mid-90's? Does someone remember outright that guy's name?
Manekineko 200 Posted June 16, 2003 Moto-sekiwake Takamiyama, current Azumazeki. Wow! This means Akebono wore Takamiyama's kesho in his mae-zumo presentation! (I posted this picture somewhere in this thread, but can't find it right now, so here it is again) Look closely at the back row. Three yokozuna-to-be! One of them wiping his nose. (Laughing...) Ah, Musa, always the clown. ;-)
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted June 16, 2003 What amazingly great pictures! (Laughing...) ;-) (Sign of approval)
Dejimasama 0 Posted June 17, 2003 (Laughing...) Great pictures again. Oh how I love this topic.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted June 17, 2003 I might as well post the remaining images from Dynamic Sumo. Gerald J. Toff to be credited once more. Akinoshima wins Konishiki. Dohyo-iri. Tamakasuga (?), Wakanohana (?), Mainoumi, Misugisato (?). Terao (?) in the background. Konishiki. There is no one like Sally now. Even Musashimaru & Towanoyama are small relative to him. Kyokudozan, the politician. Mainoumi, the mighty mouse. I miss him especially. Another Showa 43er. (Laughing...) Mitoizumi and his trademark. Tomonohana, ozumo's Johnny Come Lately. Doitsuyama 1,173 Posted June 17, 2003 Misugisato (?) According to the shikona on his keshō-mawashi this should be Takamisugi (Futagoyama, 179 cm, 144 kg) and not Misugisato (Futagoyama, 185 cm, 158 kg).
Manekineko 200 Posted June 17, 2003 Dohyo-iri. Tamakasuga (?), Wakanohana (?), Mainoumi, Misugisato (?). Terao (?) in the background. You may remove (?)s from Wakanohana and Terao... (Laughing...) In the honour of Musa returning to the dohyo (hopefuly), here's a few pictures of his yokozunaness in all his masculine glory! (Heart) Let the images speak for themselves... ilovesumo 12 Posted June 17, 2003 (edited) FANTASTIC Maru-pics!!!! (Laughing...) I became sumo-fan because of him... but now he is my number 7 ;-) (sorry Maru!!!) Edited June 17, 2003 by ilovesumo

Tokimori 0 Posted June 27, 2003 (edited) Last year my friend went to Hawaii where she met three sumotori at the beach. I couldn't see who they were, but I have hope. (Eating...) (Applauding...) Is someone skilled enough to recognize any of them? Or are they too low on the banzuke? P.S. Thx to the administrator!
