I think no real change from the January 2010 banzuke...

Hakuho Y Asashoryu

Harumafuji O1 Kotooshu

Kotomitsuki O2 Kaio

Of course Kaio is a bit of a risk, but I'm not writing him off until he does it himself!

Once again, ad nauseam, I predict Kaio will finally be gone. Baruto (surprise) will get it together.

Kaio will retire and Kakuryu will make it to Ozeki.

After totally busting out with last year's prediction (Kotooshu demoted, really?), I'll go safe this year: Same as now, plus Baruto at ozeki. No intai prediction for Asashoryu this time, either, though nothing would really surprise me on that front.

I keep vacillating about whether Kaio will be able to stick now that his trusty win source Chiyotaikai is gone, but then I always have to remind myself that there's still lots of room for non-endangering decline from his current level (like turning half his 8-7's into 6-9's, as long as they're not consecutive)...

I think Asashoryu will stck it out another year unless he cannot take a single yusho... so I marked 2

I think Kaio will retire after achieving the last record he can possibly reach in his dying career, so gone by next year.

I think Chiyotaikai cannot pull out a speedy return.

I think Baruto cannot get it together yet, maybe some time in 2011. I used to believe his bad balance and injuries would overcome him but he has improved lots.

So, I marked only 3 Ozeki. I know it doesn't seem too probable: in the past 2 years we've heard many bemoan the "too many ozeki" situation. But one day the cracks will crumble.

I predicted 2 Yokozuna as I feel that as long as he can keep on winning 1 or 2 yusho a year and keeping in the hunt on 1 or 2 more Asa will hang in.

I prognosticated 3 Ozeki: Kotooshu, Kotomitsuki & Harumafuji. Chiyotaikai is gone for good as an Ozeki, Kaio after his 100th basho will probably hang it up as well. There is some possibility that Baruto may get it together long enough to pick up Ozeki but I think it is an outside shot until maybe Natsu or Nagoya '11.

OT: Also, and maybe I should start a poll on this, there appear to be only 14 people of all the current members of this forum that participate in the polls, on a regular basis at least. I am wondering if it is because they are in a separate forum and few members visit it. Might it not be possible to actually put the polls in the forum (pinned to the top for visibility) to which they generally refer, such as Ozumo Discussions or Honbasho Discussions with perhaps a link here in the poll area. Perhaps that way more people might see them and join in.

(Sign of approval...) The "2010 yushos" poll has been open for about two weeks and has over 30 votes which is about as much as you'll ever see. It's between tournaments, only a minority of members are checking in regularly enough to have already voted in this poll or the Hakuho or YMY ones after just a couple of days.

To add to what Asasho said, you must be looking at those who actually give a written response to clarify the numbers. Not everyone is motivated to do so, maybe only half or less.

As for visibility, I have a feeling at least 50% of forum regulars are using the "view new posts" feature sothat the subforum designations are irrelevant (to them).

Hakuho Y Harumafuji

Baruto O1 Kotooshu

Kotomitsuki O2

Asa retires after taking his 25th Yusho.

Kaio quits after Kyushu basho.

Baruto have to join the rank of ozeki in 2010.

Ohh, and Ama gets a insane 3 basho run for Yokozuna.

(Sorry to spoil the year for you:P)

One Yokozuna-Hakuhou

4 Ozeki- Baruto instead of U.

I'm with him. 2008 and 2009 I didn't think that Baruto would do it, but I think he will this year. And bye bye Kaio

Yokozunas? Two of them!

Ozekis? Four (or maybe three) of them!

Who're the Ozekis? Kotomitsuki, Kotooshu and Harumafuji are likely to keep their rank. Kaio will lose his rank, and over half of us think that Baruto will make the step up in 2010. We'll see :-D

There will be one Yokozuna (Hakuho) on the January 2011 banzuke. Only 6% (i.e. 2 people) got this correct.

There will be four Ozekis (Kaio, Baruto, Kotooshu and Harumafuji) on the January 2011 banzuke - 62% of us got this correct.

However, all but one person said that Kotomitsuki would be there (wrong!). Most of us thought that Kotooshu and Harumafuji would be there (right!). About half of us thought that Baruto would get promoted - he was the only non-Ozeki prior to 2010 with any support from the voters.

Only 4 people correctly saw Kaio retaining his rank.

Looking through the responses, I see that prediction king Kintamayama, can claim yet another poll yusho (Yusho winner...) - as his prediction was the closest to reality (swap Kaio for Kotomitsuki, and he would have been 100% correct). Gusoyama (for latching onto Kinta's prediction), can claim the Jun-yusho.
