Video Stream - Nagoya 12 -

Recommended Posts

The NSK should once again provide a live internet video stream of the action in ALL divisions every day of the Nagoya basho. The link(s) should go active at about 8:20 AM Japan Standard time with the Jonokuchi division (10:00 AM on days 13-15) and continue through the end of the Makuuchi Division at about 6:00 PM.

To watch the action, you need a high capacity (non-dialup) internet link and Microsoft Media Player or an equivalent ( many use VLC ).

The links to get to it are:

Link 1 : http://sumo.goo.ne.j...sx/sumolive.asx

Link 2: http://mfile.akamai....7281.asx?prop=a

and

mms1 - mms://a1282.l12513437281.c125134.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1282/125134/v0001/reflector:37281

Links 1 and 2 are usable with WMP and most others. On some systems, WMP will not play the mms1 link, but VLC and others can handle it. If you try to open any of the links before the NSK activates them for the day, you will get a connect error message. Keep trying.

The links are useable on iPhone4 using Good Player and on Samsung Galaxy S II using Vplayer. Other similar devices may also handle the links. Reports on other devices would be appreciated.

The approximate start times for each division through day 12 should be:

Jk - 08:30 - 08:45 AM JST

Jd - 09:00 AM

Sd - 11:20 AM

Ms - 1:40 PM

Juryo - 3:05 PM

Mk - 4:20 PM

Dohyo-iri: Juryo 2:40 PM, Mk 3:50 PM

All times are +/- 15 minutes

Days 2-4 may have maezumo matches for about 10 minutes before Jk.

Days 13-15 have fewer matches per day. Jk should start at about 10:30 AM on days 13/14 and at 10:00 AM on Day 15.

Enjoy!!

RealPlayer is another browser that can be used to view the video stream. I use it for the mms link above. The viewing quality is very good, and it includes the capability to locally record the stream in up to 4 hour chunks. I limit my chunks to 1 or 2 hours. When you are viewing the recorded data, RealPlayer also offers the capability to extract selected segments and make separate recordings of the segments. Just offering this as yet another viewing option.

There is also an article about a new VLC player Beta for the Android. I am not an Android user, and I do not know whether the beta can be used to view the stream. Another offering of possible viewing options.

NHK are bringing in a handheld camera to the sunakaburi area this basho. So as not to cause a disturbance and block the fans' view, they will be filming the shikiri only, especially the last one, and concentrating on joi and upward matches. No filming of the actual bout will take place. "We thought a very close-up view from an unorthodox angle will excite the viewers ," said NHK. Only in Nagoya for now, since there are logistical problems to do it at the KKan at present, but who knows what.

..... When you are viewing the recorded data, RealPlayer also offers the capability to extract selected segments and make separate recordings of the segments.

It also lets you view the recorded video in very slow motion by hitting pause and then tapping a slow motion button.

Thanks again for the "good player" tip! It also helped my Tokitsukaze beya koenkai friend who just got an iPad.

The next question is.... Anything out there for iPad users that can also record? My friend is also searching to record the Tokitsukaze boys matches!

Thanks in advance!
