Jejima 1,338 Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) Hi everyone! Over here I am trying to put together all of the rules for Bench World Cups (two BWC have been completed to date) and Bench Euros (just the one so far). I should be able to complete this task within the next week. Please can anyone (I am especially thinking of Asashokari and Kintamayama) have a quick look through, and make sure that I have not skipped anything - and that it all makes sense. However, the rules for the group stages are already in place - which is half the story - as well as for the first couple of rounds. The Euros start in about a month's time, so the organisation needs to start as soon as the May Basho is over, I think. To decide whether or not the Euros 2016 will be played, we need 24 players to take part, AND six 'refiojis' (thanks to Achiyama for coining this phrase. It is a cross between 'referee' and 'gyoji'.) For the players, regular sumo gamers are preferred as the first choice, so that we can compete against familiar foes. If not enough players can be gathered nearer to the time, then the net will be opened to 'family members' and 'friends'. From past experience, some players who sign up, may drop out at the last minute, so ideally we need 24 players, *plus* a back-up of 3 or 4 players ready to step in..... The 'refiojis' really are important. There is *no way* (with wife and 6 month old baby) that I personally can do any more administration for the game than the last World Cup (when I spent the month very tired, due to having to be awake in the early hours of my morning to watch the games). So, if it is not possible to get at least 6 volunteer refiojis, then the Bench Euros will not be held. So, I am asking for sumo gamers to play (first come, first served) - let me know if you are interested on this thread :-) AND, I am asking for volunteers to be refiojis. Previous experience is beneficial, but not a must. Refiojis 1. ????? 2. ????? 3. ????? 4. ????? 5. ????? 6. ????? Competitors 1. Atenzan 1,074 Posted May 8, 2016 I am definitely interested but afraid that I am not well versed enough in sumo gaming to play. I would appreciate it if you would keep me in mind but it is completely understandable if you don't pick me.
Nekonishiki Banji 370 Posted May 8, 2016 I have to refresh my memories how it went 2 years ago, but I remember it was fun, and I didn't do the refiojing too bad, either. :-) So you can count on me.

Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted May 8, 2016 Ordinarily I'd play but sadly I'll be abroad and moving around for much of that tournament. Won't have any time for stuff like this. Will definitely be up for the World Cup in two years.

Jejima 1,338 Posted May 15, 2016 After many hours of going through old threads, the rules for Bench World Cup / Euros are now finished (I think!). Please do not be scared by the length / detail of the rules. I was just trying to be complete. I would suggest if new to this game, just to read the rules for the Group stages, and by the time of the third round of that, you will be familiar enough to play in the knock-out rounds, with extended rules. Thanks to Fukurou who will once again kindly look after the Outstanding Prize / Golden Boot and the Golden Gloves Award. There are 14 places (plus reserves, if possible) that need to be filled in the roster, before the game can be confirmed for the Euros 2016 (I hope it will be!). Please add your name below if you would like to play - and if you can help out as a 'refioji'.
Achiyama 1,225 Posted May 25, 2016 Hi Jezz, As there is no Sumo Basho in June, is it possible this topic "EURO 2016 BENCH SOCCER" be moved temporally on the First page. here in off-topic it is somehow hidden. There might be people who hardly go to the Off-Topic topics and they never noticed about the upcoming soccer event and game in June. Maybe, at least till the spots are filled. Just a suggestion. Best, Angel (Achiyama)

Best, Angel (Achiyama) I am not fully sure what you mean - but I guess that would have to be done by moderators. But I agree, we need a lot more players ;-) Everybody please sign up for this fun game! :-D

Jejima 1,338 Posted May 28, 2016 Hi everyone, We are not yet half-way there with the number of players taking part.... ...and before the tournament starts there needs to be some admin sorted out. So, I think we need to decide whether or not the tournament will be played by next Saturday.... One possibility is that some (or all players) could have two teams at the tournament - but it would be better if we could get the number up to 24..... I will advertise (again) on the Bench Sumo mailing list - and also over at Sumo Talk. Could some people please advertise over at the French and German Sumo forums. Also, opening up the game to friends and family of existing players. I'm going to recruit my 6 month old son now (of course, he'll drop out if we manage to get 24 more committed fans!)
