Kotomitsuki to make comeback as sekiwake in Nagoya sumo tournament

The Japan Sumo Association on Monday released wrestler rankings for the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament beginning on July 10, showing Kotomitsuki's return to the rank of sekiwake for the first time in eight tournaments.

Kotomitsuki returned to the rank after earning 13 out of 15 wins as a komusubi wrestler in the last tournament in May.

Sumo association president Kitanoumi added that Kotomitsuki would be considered for further promotion to ozeki if he achieves "11 or 12 wins" in two consecutive tournaments starting from the one in Nagoya. Sumo judge Oshiogawa said it would be "a different matter" if he won all of his bouts.

In the Nagoya tournament, Yokozuna Asashoryu is aiming for his fifth consecutive tournament victory.

Russian wrestler Hakurozan enters the top Makuuchi Division for the first time at the rank of Maegashira No. 14. The Russian's older brother Roho holds the higher rank of Maegashira No. 3, and Hakurozan's entry marks the first time that two foreign-born brothers have wrestled in the top division in the same tournament.

Also making a debut as a Makuuchi Division wrestler is Tamaasuka, from Nagoya. Tochisakae, who won the Juryo Division tournament, and Ishide will also return to the top division.

Kaio, who pulled out of the last tournament partway through with an injury, faces demotion for the seventh time if he does not achieve a good record in Nagoya.

Since his entry as a new sekiwake wrestler, Hakuho has held his rank for three consecutive tournaments. The last wrestler to do so was Asashoryu, in 2002. (Mainichi)

Seen those pictures in Russian sumo website (www.japan-sumo.ru).

Also, there is an interview by Hakurozan.

Would be nice if one of our Russian members could translate and post this interview here in forum (if it's allowed).

Saw those pictures in Russian sumo website (www.japan-sumo.ru).

If that's the interview with Hakurozan and Roho, from the time they joined Ozumo, I translated it with help from Nekonishiki... I don't remember if I ever posted it here, let me check...

Here it is!

If you point me to other interviews in Russian, I might try to translate them as well, or at least retell them (if japan-sumo.ru folks don't mind, that is).

Splendid! Now to see how much rust has gathered on my Russian understanding skills...  :-)

Wow, it's a big job to translate such a long interview. You're really doing this? (Blushing...)

I'm totally curious: What's that anecdote with Orora and the bicycle about? I didn't understand that part - it's in the paragraph above the picture of the two brothers with Orora and Wakanoho. I just can't imagine Orora on a bike. (Eh?)

(My Russian used to be better once...) (Eating...)

Yes, I really am doing this, mostly because it's too hot to do anything more serious during work-hours... So to avoid "real" work I saddle myself with a monster translation.

You'll learn the solution to mystery of Orora and bike soon enough. :-)

it's just that Hakurozan bought a bicycle for himself.. which was not allowed for such a young rikishi as Hakurozan (it happened a while ago, presumably. So he said it was Aurora's present, so the latter had to suffer the consequences.

Translation done! It has its own thread. All Russian-speaking Forumers are invited to correct the mistakes and fill in the holes. (Blushing...)

Thanks for making that clear, 'Robert' smiley2.gif(if that's a picture of you in your avatar...).

My first interpretation was that Hakurozan bought a bike that actually belonged to Orora. But it seemed too unbelievable to me that Orora could have owned a bike... (Blushing...)

When reading Manekineko's full translation (спасибо for that! smiley4.gif) I had to realize that my Russian is even worse than I thought - I understood so many things in a wrong way. smiley9.gif

First time ever foreign brothers in Makuuchi Rohou and Hakurozan met for degeiko at Oshima beya with Kyokushuuzan, Kyokutenhou, Tosanoumi and others. They did not have any direct matches, but Rohou was giving advice to Hakurozan, while Hakurozan was seen wiping big brother's back a few times. "It makes me really happy to see my brother here!", said Rohou.

'mo fo's' ???? (Sign of disapproval)

That is hardly respectful. At least they have achieved something which you haven't.

They are makuuchi rikishi. You are an armchair yokozuna.

Perhaps they may be ugly (although someone on this forum mentioned that that rugged, scarred look is considered very masculine in eastern europe), but you might address people with a bit more (I am not worthy...) .

Your current remarks indicates something along the lines of (Blinking...) .

Btw you might also want to improve your spelling and grammar if you want to judge others. I counted 5 errors in that 1 sentence.
