When will you finally learn about the history? Did you know that in 1963 TSV 1860 München was not qualified for the Bundesliga as per the 12 year evaluation (Zwölfjahreswertung). Rudi Gramlich, one of the few members of the decision committee, and at this time president of Eintracht Frankfurt, thus hating the local rival Kickers Offenbach, under all circumstances wanted to avoid Offenbach joining the Bundesliga. He came up with some dubious argument after the criteria were fixed and announced. The champions of the five existing Oberliga should be given a place automatically. 1860 was lucky to be champion in Oberliga South in 1963 as they were only # 7 on the list following the original criteria. With this argument Kickers Offenbach, #5 on the list, was robbed as only five teams from Oberliga South were qualified for the Bundesliga.
After a few successful years when 1860 was #1 in Munich and even became German Champions in 1966 the slow but steady decrease began. They simply bungled their excellent starting position. Mismanagement, wrong decisions, wherever you looked at. And it was not money, but hard work and talent (Maier, Beckenbauer, Müller, et al.) that made Bayern München not only #1 in Munich but in whole Germany. Any Deutsche Mark and Euro Bayern spent in the following years was a result of their excellent management, especially by Robert Schwan and Uli Hoeneß. I know this is hard to accept for a TSV 1860 hardliner, but this is simply the truth. Would be great if you could acknowledge the hard and successful work by Bayern officials to make them a top club instead of talking the usual rubbish.
Believe it or not, as a Bayern supporter I was happy when 1860 came back from 2nd League to Bundesliga. As a witness in Frankfurter Waldstadion I was even rooting for 1860 when they won the deciding match vs. Arminia Bielefeld in June 1977. Sad to see them now in the middle of nowhere in 3rd League, far away from chances to be promoted.
And you're absolutely right, it's about passion, not money!
