When Onosato got over promoted, it looked like it had to be because it was him. Kayo's hardly that kind of prospect, but this has the same vibe in the other direction--that Shiden got binked back because he's juryo 4 lyfe and they decided Kayo has at least a little potential. But's it's an especially interesting decision in light of the fact they started hard-capping promotions from low makuuchi wherever they could find a way to do so.

Right? 3w Kayo goes up two ranks on 8-7, 6w Shiden (who we all thought was a dark horse candidate to replace Tokihayate) goes up 4.5 on 10-5. Unnecessary overpromotion and underdemotion, given that Shiden computes a full rank ahead. People have speculated there's a "Juryo joi" that gets slight preference, but this is a tiebreaker thing at best.

I guess this might give me some motivation to enter the games this year
