Kadoban watch - Hatsu Basho 2017

Regardless the record, an ozeki can be demoted only to sekiwake rank.

    Goueidou/Takayasu promotion guidelines-Kyushu 2016

Again, who is saying that the two consecutive yusho should be from the Sekiwake rank? OK, let's consider a scenario with THREE consecutive yusho. One from a whatever Maegashira rank, resulting to Sekiwake. The second one from the Sekiwake rank, definitely leading to ozekihood. And the third one from this ozeki rank. Are you sure a fourth one will be required? I'm not.

    Toyonoshima Injured

Don't forget guys that we have said on this forum time and again that it is more beneficial for a rikishi to remain active during his rehabilitation period, even if intai makes more sense like in Toyonoshima's case.

    Basho Talk - Aki 2015 +++ Spoiler alert! +++

I expect Terunofuji with a second yusho-doten and then a normal yusho - no matter with how many victories - will win him the Yokozunahood.

    Ozekiless-ness

As far as I know it is impossible not to have an ozeki in a certain basho. In such a case one of the yokozunas are called yokozuna-ozeki during the ozekiless period.

    Kaio: first 0-15 ozeki?

As a non-Japanese and relatively new sumo fun I was never so fond of Kaio, but you have to respect a 38/39 y.o. Ozeki that beats fair and square a Dai-Yokozona at his prime. Kaio could easily currently be a Sekiwake on his own merit, unlike Chiyotaikai near the end for example. :-)

How would you have handled the yaocho situation?

I think I would be going for more rank-dependent salaries, together with increased volatility between the ranks and especially between Jurio and Makushita. Also more "guest visits" from lower ranks would be welcome. Without the bottleneck on the high Makushita, there would more incentive to be gachinko.

I thought that the unbanzuke for the non sekitori was not released. Do you have the list?

    Ozeki Back-Scratchers' Club

I think it was like the WWE stage matches: Noone can lose by his own finisher! ;-) (In a state of confusion...)
  14. On the other hand, Kotomitsuki may go intai and Kaio will soon follow (-1 win when he most needs it) (Shaking head...)

    Tochinoshin

No. Just see what Baruto did before he became Ozeki himself.

    The new Baruto

I think it's not only the 9-6 basho, but also the 4-11 last May. And before that he was completely unstable. Probably he now needs 12 wins, with one of them over Hakuho, or 13 wins regardless. Haven't seen much injury consideration the last few years, since rikishi are not allowed without penalty to stay out a few basho to heal properly. Kotooshu for example will never manage to have the needed surgery and therefore will never become a yokozuna (well, first he needs to straighten up mentally, but that's another issue). Regarding Baruto, even if someone had shot him on the knee, this would still have counted negatively. (Going kyujo...)
