Homasho - that did not look good, he was in a lot of pain - nasty hyper extended knee by the looks. Harumafuji did not need that final push, he compounded Homasho's misery who had clearly lost by the time the yokozuna made his final manoeuver.

In japan and watching "TV" on the phone. Essentially the phone becomes a TV and picks up the digital TV broadcast using a special cable that connects to the head phonejack- looks and acts like a headphone cable extension as well as an being an antenna. Car TV's use the same system. 1 seg has been around a while. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1seg Full seg is much better quality

My previous two android phones were non japanese tweaked models , now I have an Xperia z2, phenomenomal device that has the new "full seg" capability - watching the sumo in full HD on my phone anywhere is now a go, no more ustream, fiddling around with others streams, in the future now. I can even record and watch it later. Nice. Anyone who is japan, time to upgrade, especially if you have an inferior iphone.

saw this one in my travels... nice timing.

Yep, go out with your last ever battle against one of the all time greats. I reckon he'll look good with short hair. I wish him all the best in his Oyakata endeavours.

Araibira discontinuing youtube sumo broadcasts (or is he?)
sekihiryu replied to Kintamayama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
One man working by himself faraway who was doing an absolutely stunning and unbelievable service archiving every bout because the dinosaurs at NSK had no idea is then silenced when they jump into bed with some amateurs called Ustream? :-/ The great repository of sumo gone. It's like the Taliban destroying those cliff side statues, I bet they feel smug about it too. Sure it was "illegal" but what a fantastic service it was, Yesterday I went through and downloaded some the great videos on his channel. like the whole 20 part documentary of sumo series, as I saw the writing on the wall. Oh well nothing else left for me on ustream, so much garbage on there. Time to give the app a one star rating and delete it. Araibira my man, thank you so much for what you did. Very much appreciated. I too was silenced in the past when I tried to share sumo to the world. -
Heres an analogy, a Baseball analogy. For years we've be enjoying some sandlot baseball, for free, in a city park (a low quality, fixed camera, no instant replay, no commentary stream) suddenly we've been told that the games are now at Yankee stadium, wow! we say, we look at the program and even though its Yankee stadium it's still sandlot baseball. WTF W.......T.......F........ Understandably many are livid. If you are going to charge Yankee stadium prices, you better damn well provide the Yankees (a 4500Mbps + feed, commentary, multiple camera angle feeds (i.e coaches reel), curated highlights, compressed games, access to the archives. i.e NFL game pass quality) Its not about the paying, like anything in life you get what you pay for. Its quite mind boggling to jack the prices to the premium service level and not provide premium service. The cost of the package is absolutely no where near commensurate with the product being offered. To think it is - is utterly delusional. $10 for 15 days, $1.95 for a day, that is a fair price for what is being offered. That is a planet Earth price. You charge Yankees prices, you gotta provide Yankees service, not sandlot quality. Quite frankly, it's embarrassing, it's a joke, it's clueless. To all those outside of Japan, I truly feel for you, for me it's just removed a secondary viewing option that I I did enjoy on the train, I still have the primary option at home, though with the geniuses in the NSK, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they completely screw that up in the near future aswell The NSK couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery

So here i was reading the JT newspaper at work today and here is full page story about a Journo spending a whole day on a Japanese porn set. And the Journalist ??? well, we all know him...... ;-) http://www.japantimes.co.jp/community/2014/01/13/issues/a-hard-days-grind-for-porns-professionals/#.UtU52fQW2So

This game has become stale, I initially liked the concept of it, but all it is now, is the final three bouts of the day, that's all the people choose now as they want the bonus points. Its sad as there are often much better more interesting bouts on the torikumi, yet the least exciting, most insipid match up gets all the action because its in the last three. What would to be nice is, if somehow we could make the list of bouts randomized for each competitor when then log in so the "last three" is no longer an issue. That would make the game really interesting.

Watch the sumo stream easily on your Android/apple ios device now
sekihiryu posted a topic in Honbasho Talk
Got you attention? great, thought a separate thread would be good catch those who had long given up the dream of watching sumo on their phone and don't bother to look at the usual basho stream thread on this forum. So, this basho the sumo video stream has changed and is on Ustream - a very popular and well known live streaming service that most importantly has apps for android and iphone/ipad that make viewing the sumo stream a breeze now. In the past it was virtually impossible to watch the stream on mobile. I tried dozens of media players and none of them worked, the old sumo stream was not at all user friendly. Anyway, with your android phone, android tablet, iphone, ipad you can now enjoy sumo. I did use "one-seg" to watch broadcast TV occasionally on an old cellphone in the past, but one-seg sucks, it very low res and always cuts out. This is much better. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.ustream.ustream&hl=en Google play https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/ustream/id301520250?mt=8 itunes install an search for "sumo", its the first one in the results. "September Grand Sumo tournament by Nippon Sumo Kyokai" It had 1163 viewers this afternoon. Yippee kye ay. -

perhaps Docomo tweaks phones in japan so you can't stream video over media players? (and suck up their bandwith). They do a good job at disabling wi-fi hotspots, so that it is extremely hard to circumvent. It is Odd, as ustream app works fine! I don't know, maybe it was a samsung thing as my phone is a Galaxy nexus and tablet a Galaxy tab? Anyway, the ipod via a wifi hotspot was great way to spend my train journey this afternoon :-D -

In the list view of the channels, each channel has the "3 dots" setting mark on the right hand side, click on that and click "follow". after that it's on your main menu page* It will have "your username", "go live" then "following"- the channel will be there. If you have Android 4.0 plus then swipe right to make the menu appear or tap the U icon at the top left of the screen. -

I tried vplayer several times on two devices and it never worked. On android 2.2, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2. I tried "dice" my default player on my 4.2 device and mx player (default) on my rooted 2.2 tablet. I tried vlc, mobo, mvideoplayer (great player, formerly my default on the 2.2 device) iMplayer and more. None worked. -
Shohozan slipped, Harumafuji was skating a bit too, did seem very slippery out there today.
-
must say the stream has been bloody handy today as NHK are cutting to long typhoon updates every 20mins and the tv screen is compressed with top and side banners of typhoon info. Plus the stream has the dohyo camera all the time, which is often lot more interesting than the plethora of other shots you are presented with on TV.

Osunaarashi looked woefully out of his depth in that bout, he stood bolt upright instantly and from ten it went downhill. Not impressed. p.s Boodie = Osunaarashi?
-
Toyonoshima has lost his mojo. That was weak.
-
Tochinoshin immediately grabbed his knee with his incident. Though who knows until we get a report.
-
Damn, a hyper extended knee/torn inner thigh or groin for chiyonokuni, as he ended up in a what was other wise a perfectly executed splits. beltless arm throw while in the splits? Crazy An expensive shiroboshi. He's in a lot of pain.
-
On the replay, it's not clear what he has done. It wasn't a usual knee buckling, it seems that something finally snapped under pressure. Odd
-
After what i said earlier in this thread, it made me smile today when Seiro gave a Osunaarashi a schooling.

34-35 I reckon. He's still going strong. Only Harumafuji seems to consistently trouble him and aside from Kisenosato, I don't see a bona fide contender for quite some time. I just wish we could have had 2-3 years longer than we did of the Hak-Asa rivalry. We really missed out on that.
