some advice for the wary - make your important passwords long and difficult. A mixture of uppercase, lower case, numerals and punctuation characters. For example: sumoforum is a crappy password, Su#Mo!fORum%39 is much better and and much harder to crack. Just make sure you can remember it ;-)

there be a video of the bout now on U-tube. Just search a rikishi name and click "uploaded today". Wakakirin? yes he was thuggish with his slap happy sumo and Asashoryu can be pretty vicious at the best of times. Asashoryu though has a full bag of techniques which he uses to full effect to compliment his minor nasty style Aran has the 'Ossetian shuffle'TM , the 'slap down' and now it seems the 'slap happy' in his quiver and not much more. :-P every now and then he does something classical and solid , why he doesn't do it more often, who knows?

Aran is a thug, a thug in a top knot but none the less a thug.

Lower House Election on August 30
sekihiryu replied to Jonosuke's topic in Japan-Japanese Discussions
All I care about is the infuriatingly annoying election vans, blaring megaphones and idiots waving in white gloves will cease - it will be peaceful and quiet. Hopefully the DPJ when they are elected will change the election rules and allow internet campaigning. You can annoy the hell out of everyone shouting out a candidates name ad nauseum but you cant make an website? mind boggling really. The LDP are a bunch of out of touch dinosaurs, far too many legacy politicians who couldn't run a vegetable stand. -
Sumo articles by journalists who are Forum members/or not

Well just read the last "Sumo focus" by our own Orion in the "Kansai Time Out." Sadly the great magazine has succumbed to the pressure of the modern media world and has ceased publication. The last issue is September. Sayonara KTO. -
Tuttle? are they the one Orion herself has written forewords for or revised or contributed too? I recall reading a sumo book with a foreword from our esteemed contributor. Grand Sumo Illustrated ISBN 4896842510 - no author per se, edited by PHP Institute Inc, supervising editor Seigoro Kitade, Translator Deborah Iwabuchi. Also: I am a Rikishi - Reiko Yokono. (bi-lingual book looking at the current crop of foreign Rikishi)

nods head, when Hakuho was up and coming I used to like him, but he has become as you say "so dull" and now the way he keeps dominanting irks me, now I know how the Asashoryu haters felt when the champ was on a roll 3-4 years ago, winning constantly. I groaned when seeing the result yesterday. The look on Kotooshu's face as he departed the arena was the same look on my face. Hakuho has more "hinkaku" which purests must love to bits but it is shame he has the style of assembly line robot and the outward personality of a toaster. When I went to a Jungyo

I was two weeks - he will be six weeks. More leg muscle, is more to wither.
-
that's a long time without bearing weight. his right leg will wither away. I recently had a cast for only 2weeks on my leg - no weight bearing - the muscle - my quads completely withered away in only 2 weeks. If you ask me he will be lucky to compete again this year. Even if he makes Kyushu he will be very weak and a a push over. Lots of rehab for him coming up - more squats than you can poke a stick at. (First prize...)

Asa pulls out a yaguranage (inner thigh throw) - This technique can be done from either an inside or outside grip. As the attacker pulls his opponent into him, he will drop his hips and place the outside of his knee against the defender's inner thigh. As the attacker starts the throwing motion with the hand on the same side of the leg touching the defender's thigh, he will drive that leg upwards. This, combined with the throwing motion of the attacker's hands, will force the defender over onto his side. wow the first one in the top div in 30 years! (Blinking...) :-|

I think for him it would a case of " be careful what you wish for you just might get it" As for taking of a few basho for a knee op - ask Takanohana how that thoery goes..... You lose fitness and match shape and to then return cold to the top of the pyramid after 6 months is a beyond herculean effort and doomed to fail. If you want an op - I think the only way to do it is to drop down the banzuke and work you way back up. Very few drop down like that especially not those accustomed to the perks of Ozekihood. I think sumo needs a "surgery rule" instituted Ozeki can can have surgery - rehab and came back at the bottom of Makuuchi. If they are good enough they can claw their way back up. Other Joi jin can drop to low Juryo. Lower makuuchi guys can drop to Makushita 10. Juryo guys can drop to the bottom of makushita. I am curious if such a rule existed how many guys would fix major knee injuries - i.e Aminishiki, Asasekiryu, Kasugao, Baruto, Kotooshu et al. P.s what exactly is wrong with his knee? I know he dislocated in training, but does he also have ligament damage?

Sumo Game Natsu 2009 = perhaps the highest scoring basho of ALL TIME. The high scores have been blowing me away, losing 10-10, 9-9 tie breakers, sneaking a 10-9 win is normal this basho. Check this out. Day 7 = 3rd highest daily average ever - 8.81 Day 10 = 10th - 8.19 Day 2 = 19th - 8.00 3 days in the top 20!

reminds of the Full Mteal Jacket movie quote "You trying to squeeze an inch on me somewhere, huh?" I guess Saito squeezed that inch alright!
