    Last Call for RotoSumo

I fear I've encountered a bug. The log in is apparently case sensitive for Shikona...thus, you may find "Yangnomazuma" and "yangnomazuma" registered. Please note that a lineup was entered for the former and the latter may be summarily deleted.

    A mere 308 lbs.

very true of course - although not so much so recently IAFAICS. :-O Yang thingy - For someone who doesn't give a rats's arse you certainly prattled on there for a mo. If you have something to offer to a discussion offer it - if not - well, continue obtaining your spuds surreptitiously and promoting Lynn M as you do. :-P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Adachinoryu... Seems you wish to keep some conversations private yet have no intention of taking this and other conversations to PM. Please allow the board to PM you so we don't have to discuss this type of thing on the board. That said, for your attempt to keep your "private conversation" private, you sure came out quickly to confirm your source once someone called you on it. It is one thing to stand for a principle and yet another to have the courage of your convictions. Again, I'd love to have a conversation with you offline on the matter...

    Featured edible item - Potato

Even better, go to the nearest potato field a couple weeks before harvest or just before the farmer cuts the tops. Surreptitiously harvest a couple potatoes and wash them in the nearest clean water. At this point, the skins are so thin that you can rub it off in your hand and eat them raw. The flavor fresh from the farm is much better.

    Featured edible item - Potato

Well, I would definitely have to reply here. After all, my home town is the Potato Capital of the World. Yes, I'm from Blackfoot Idaho, home of the world famous Idaho Russet Potato. Check out the following link for the Potato Expo web site. Potato Expo My home growing up is about two hundred meters from the building in the picture!

    Question : maximum ichimoners ...

I dont really see size as a problem, since the competition is not based on totals, but averages, right?? So if the ISI wants to go quantity over quality, so be it :-D Cheers! The only advantage I see for having a larger ichimon is the final tally of prize points. The more people the more prizes. However, it still points out the quality v quantity battle.

    Basho of ex-rikishi greats...

Only three with a realistic chance. I go with Takanohana due to his skills. Moose and Akebono are the largest and most powerful at this point (no surprise) but would lose at least 3 due to lack of patience and the lack of practice that would effect them more than Takanohana. Taka should beat all but the two Hawaiians easily in a head-to-head. If 13-2 would win, then Taka holds yusho...should one of the Hawaiians manage to hold form for 15 days then anything is possible. However, I'd look to Taka....

    golf

Condolences and congratulations...very few get the chance to even consider professional sports as a serious option. I hacked my way to a 7 handicap but gave it up a few years back. As for my sport of excellence, it would be bowling. I've considered taking the plunge for my PBA card several times...only my lack of time to devote to the sport has stopped me. Good luck and I hope you make the grade.

    New Bench Banzuke

Congrats to Doitsuyama, perhaps Ozeki is on the horizon? Also, kudos to a long awaited return to sanyaku for Kintamayama! (Sign of approval) Curiously however, listed under "fallen off the banzuke" is "Ryukaze". I'd figure he'd be LOL'ing himself all the way to Yokozuna. ;-)

    Ex-Takanonami Danpatsushiki

I must admit I'm not a fan of Takanonami. I disliked his ring presence and his air on the dohyo. I cheered when he fell from Ozeki and cheered again when he proved unsuccessful attempting to regain his rank. That said, I must give him props and respect for a great career. Hopefully his career in the Kyokai will be long and prosperous. If nothing else, should he form his own heya, it will give me a whole group of rikishi to cheer against :'-(

    Hatsu ICF Results

Kudos out to the over-achievers who pushed us over the top; Kintamayama and Aderechelseamaru for their huge yushos, Taka and Misisko for their solid jun-yushos, and Misisko, Kintamayama, Nekonishiki and Leonishiki for their special prizes! Without the few over-achievers us rank and filers have little to look forward to. I hope we can continue this success next basho and I'll strive for my "mediocre" 8 to at least be a help to some extent.

    yokozuna Wakanohana bio

If I remember correctly, Waka's tryout with the Seattle Seahawks during training camp was quite successful from a physical/size/effort basis. Two problems precluded him from making the team. First, he was essentially an inexperienced neophyte. Blessed with good physical form, but inexperienced nonetheless. He was getting beaten badly due to the inexperience and his age dictated he would be a bad investment. Secondly, he had a problem with holding. Linemen can push and jostle all they want, but Waka kept "going for the mawashi" and constantly held his "aite". Either way, a GOOD habit for a rikishi, a BAD habit for a lineman. My opinion on sumo wrestlers in football? There are some tsuki specialists that might prosper in such a situation, but a yotsu guy would perish like Waka on the football field. The only problem I see with the tsuki folks would be overcoming penalties, namely - Illegal Hands to the Face.

    Secrets of Success

Don't know about Tochiazuma, but if you watch Yotsukasa, he'll douse several joints (including his bad knees) with salt on the dohyo. No doubt a plea for health, but he's through nonetheless.

    Rotosumo

I can feel the love flowing around here, can you Doitsu-san? I'm certainly not complaining, just trying to figure out how it all works. Thanks all for the explanations. Now, if I can only remember where I left my cyber-mawashi...

Ok, I get the idea with the points and it seems you're ranked within your division during the basho, but when all is said and done, how are promotion/demotions worked? As a newbie, I'm down in Jonokuchi...I'm middle of the pack pointwise. Would this translate to an 8-7 or 7-8 and promotion/demotion accordingly? An aside; this game is strange in that the top of Jonokuchi far outperforms the bottom of the upper divisions. I'd imagine that it would still take many basho to move up, even considering outstanding performance. Perks of being in the game since Methusalah was young. That said, it would also seem that all one needs to do to be a permanent Maegashira is to consistently score right around average despite the fact that many folks below are scoring much higher.

Watching Hatsu Basho At a Reasonable Hour?

The link on the NSK site (//sumo.goo....) doesn't become active til just prior to the Makunouchi dohyo-iri, so if you want to watch anything prior to Makunouchi live, you can use the link on this page to get in earlier. Sometimes as early as 2300 your time, sometimes later. However, I'm told you can usually catch all the Juryo matches and often many of the earlier matches.

Alright...I'll jump on this bandwagon too. It will certainly be interesting.
