Can't be "totally" unusable since it's being done at the 'Gnome. That said, they're still using the older software aren't they? Could be the new version is less user friendly. Also, Lockergnome has access to LOTS of help that might be unavailable to Exil et al

I'm hacking and slashing my way through some X-Box stuff; Baldurs Gate II and Halo II. Also spend some time playing a shareware game called Square Off. Too much time on my hands during vacation and my next college course doesn't start till the 3rd...

That historic draw between Gracie and Shamrock was monumental. It's a shame Shamrock decided to have that last hurrah against Ortiz. All told, minus the UFC 1 loss to Royce, Shamrock was pretty untouchable for a long time.

I'll assume this was "beard" and not "heart"

Oh why not....Kototakeuchi My guess is this guy will go 0-7 since my knowledge of anything below mid Juryo could barely fill a thimble...

I think not. He was after all the original overweight, 25% and above body fat, obese lazy American.

We have regular "Hash-house" runs here. It seems I'm also a proud member of a club (the Hash House Harriers) who consider themselves "drinkers with a running problem". Next time you're in the middle of nowhere in West Texas, look me up and we'll share that beer. Except, I'm a lightweight and only drink beer you can see through. (Eh?)

Such topics. I'd be quite happy to take the entire forum out for a nice PT (physical training) session to show how fat we Americans are. I'd guess that very few would be able to keep up with this "overweight" (but far from obese at 12% body fat (Eh?) ) American. You see...the statistics would say that I, and many Americans like me, are overweight. Sure we have a large percentage of people who are overfat, but not nearly as much as the statistics would show. With the excess leisure time our society provides, comes extremes. Some choose to sit in front of the television and eat doughnuts. Others use the extra time to condition their bodies.... Peace :-S

Anybody else having trouble accessing Kintamayama's site? I'm getting a Login/Password form....

There is a SHARP dividing line. Those rikishi below sanyaku and above that line are said to be in the "meat grinder" in that they are typically elevator rikishi who are on the top side of their talent and get the "privilege" of facing the best of the best. Those that manage to survive the meat grinder generally find themselves as sanyaku regulars. Those who don't...well, does hamburger mean anything to you?

So it is funny enough to cause you to laugh out loud when thinking of the possibility of Tochiazuma falling all the way to Juryo before he's healthy? Perhaps our young Ryukaze could well learn some longer words. I say start with a 13 letter one....namely S P O R T S M A N S H I P

I've used the chat during hon-basho on days when I can stay up til the crack of dawn. Still got that old time shift going against us on this half of the world. Nothing we can do about that. That said, I can agree with Kashunowaka that the chat software itself is difficult at times. Can't remember who exactly, but I believe it was Jejima and Zentoryu left spending the better part of a couple days getting bumped repeatedly. The smileys are not really an issue as there is a work around, but it WOULD be nice if we didn't have to work around it.

I think more telling, and I hope I didn't butcher the Hakke Yoi query so badly that I'm now misinformed, only one person (Taiho in 1960-61) has managed to make it from Makunouchi debut to Ozeki in 7 or fewer basho. Is this true? If so, it would seem folly to expect Hakuho to be promoted prior to that unless he goes above and beyond the current "standard".
-
I know this is common knowledge among a few, but there are many who might not know. During the basho, the link to start the NSK live streaming video becomes active on that site just prior to the Makunouchi Dohyo-iri. However, I've found (and others already new) that it streams from at least the end of Makushita (anyone know definitively when the stream begins?). Several options abound when viewing prior to the link being active. One: there is a link at the top of this page :-) Two: after you've viewed it once, it probably is in your recent history in your media player - select it from there. Three, depending on your browser, save the target in your favorites/bookmarks and select it from there. Not earth shattering, but those of us who struggle at games because we know little about the younger sumotori, could really benefit from seeing the stream PRIOR to Makunouchi.

I'd be happy to allocate my attachment alotment to anyone who wishes to post pics... Wouldn't be the same without the pics.

RE: the "squareness" of the board. If I'm not mistaken, there are tons of skins available for this board software. It seems that the site must download and make them available then we can choose from amongst them. This correct? That said, if you find the default skin "square", you may wish to find a skin you DO like and suggest it be added as an option.

That's disturbing at SO many levels...

What's the story behind this little friend? :-D I was always keen to know about this and I guess this is the right place to bring this question up. This "mini-Mi" is caused by the repetitive blows to the shoulder that keiko provides. I don't know if, at this point, it is permanent or whether it might fade if given sufficient rest. My surprise is that it's not more common in Sumo.

I'm with you there. Too often in Japan/Korea it is so much easier to be simply grateful for us Gaijin/Yangnome actually speaking the language than it is to help us get better by correcting our mistakes.

Came up in the heyday of Musashigawa beya and helped push them over the top of (now) Takanohana beya as the driving force in Ozumo. The injuries forced a shift in his body composition. He went from a big strong Ozeki to a fat underpowered Maegashira in the process. He's since gotten back into much better shape and is very competitive even at the top of the banzuke again. I believe that if he keeps increasing his power while reducing his body fat percentage (not necessarily his weight though...) he'll be Ozeki again. From there, it's anybody's guess. I'm not sure he has the skills to make Yokozuna, but he may see a prolonged stay at Ozeki the second time.

the winner can be found at the above link

I've been trying to find a way to record the NHK sumo stream for some time. I know that StreamBox will record files that reside on a server, but will it work for something like the live feed which in itself is a work in progress. Is there a better tool out there to accomplish this with?
-
Awesome! What time then does Juryo usually begin? Does the "schedule" function work well or would I be better off to set it up after the stream begins?

(Dribbling...) You would be correct that bull can be used in short form. For example, you might say, "That guy is so full of bull. He can't open his mouth without lying." You've now seen it written. (Enjoying a beer...)
