  3. Been looking around the net for news on Tosayutaka, but nothing all that recent. Has anyone had any more luck? He was supposed to need 3 months to heal. Did anyone see the lad at the soken?

    Superbanzuke Nagoya Masters are online

So, go on then, Rando...what were the changes. I can only guess that you've started allowing the tie-break rules in games to apply not only to yusho winners? But I didn't actually check, so...?

Aki Basho Banzuke Forecast by the Sankei Shimbun

Yes, I had heard about the balance element, too, but obviously on the next banzuke, perfect balance will be impossible. So the NEXT guy balances the missing west yokozuna spot! Got it. Cheers.

Aki Basho Banzuke Forecast by the Sankei Shimbun

Is the rule not that newcomers to sekiwake, whether from above or below, go to S2W, while those who were at sekiwake (or maybe komusubi too?) in the previous basho, will be moved to the highest spot available, in next basho's case, S2E? Completely forgot about this in the last GTB - put Kak at S2E. One of the many reasons I finished dead last, no doubt.

Day 15 results, yusho and sansho

I think Mainoumi was around 100kg for most of his Makuuchi career and he made komusubi. Different kind of body, though. I personally don't think he'd last five minutes in the top half of Maegashira. He seems to have some newfound confidence which may enable him to survive in the bottom half, but it will surely be very tricky to beat people in different weight classes daily with nage and gake techniques. Now watch him make ozeki, now that I've said that.

    Harumafuji's 2nd Yusho

Harumafuji consistently showed the best sumo this basho. Hakuho didn't seem to have his heart in proceedings for whatever reason. The best goat took home the prom/rose queen or something.

    Sumo Game flukes

Vik...you're an even bigger nutjob about Sumo Game than us lot over at Sumotalk! I wouldn't worry about it...it is a great game and I've learned to love its unfuriating nature.

    A Panda Cometh

Hello all... I thought it was time I did a bit of degeiko! Cheers, Simon PS. I am wondering whether I will be the first new member of this forum not to receive Fuji's traditional welcome! (Blinking...)

    Giveaways at Nagoya basho

Well, apart from the yokozuna, we have six very popular JAPANESE rikishi. Not sure why Kisenosato is missing, though! These Japanese rikishi are more likely to be popular with a largely Japanese crowd. But don't quote me on this.

    Another new committee-the Governance

However, according to that American evangelist who predicted the world would end on May 21st, the world is now going to end on October 21st so none of this really matters.

    Natsu Superbanzuke

I wouldn't worry about it too much, Achiyama - you're obviously an excellent gamer and will no doubt be furlongs above me on all the banzuke within the next couple of years. It took me quite a while to get in Makuuchi in the games, and I'm still languishing in Makushita in some of them, notably Bench...where I very annoyingly just won the non-sekitori and Makushita yusho in an EXHIBITION basho. Now watch in awe as I go make-koshi in Nagoya.

    Another new committee-the Governance

Oh, go on then! By the way, this might not be perfect, but I'm sure someone like Jonosuke can put me right if I screw it up. In the first column are the suggestions of the new committee. In the second are the responses of the kyokai. And the final column contains the dates on which some kind of decision will be made. I'll go from the bottom up as that's the chronological order. October 2011 (1): Committee suggestion: Channels other than NHK should have the chance to bid for ozumo broadcasting rights. Kyokai response: They will consider broadcasting sumo on a cable channel. October 2011 (2): Committee suggestion: Reduce the number of heya from 50 to 30. Kyokai response: If the number of heya is reduced, rikishi may lose motivation. And in any case, the number of heya is expected to fall naturally over time due to a lack of successors to take over. October 2011 (3): Committee suggestion: It is not appropriate for money to be used to buy toshiyori status. (Sorry...not too confident about that translation) Kyokai response: While the kyokai supports this suggestion in principle, it suggests that if buying toshiyori status with money is banned, when shares (kabu??) change hands, they should be returned to the kyokai, and money will be paid in the form of a retirement package. (Again...sorry, that was very difficult Japanese so not certain). October 2011 (4): Committee suggestion: Rikishi ranked below makushita should have a time limit on their careers, not specified here, and must retire if they don't reach makushita within that period. Kyokai response: This may not be a good idea because some rikishi are late developers. February 2012: Committee suggestion: It is not appropriate for one person to have BOTH riji and shisho responsibilities. Kyokai response: There are numerous cases of other companies and associations in which one individual has two or more separate responsibilities so why should sumo be any different? That should not be too far off what it says!
