LOL! I was actually shaking my head last night at the torikumi knowing full well I would have a disaster today. SG was a guaranteed loss as my system only gave seven viable picks from the whole torikumi, meaning I had to pick three from either idiots (Ichinojo, Mitakeumi) or strong lads in difficult bouts (Waka). I even changed Hoku (a win) to Waka (a loss) but I would have lost anyway thanks to Teru. Both of these types of bouts are usually avoided but I had no choice. Naturally all three of these lost. This has been the story every day and it explains why my scoring has been so abysmal. Just hoping to crawl over the finish line basically. Amazingly I won the important dailies - Quad, Toto and TTT. The others are write-offs apart from SG so it matters not at this stage. Just hoping to sneak KKs in those. The pre-basho wasn't great but I kind of held position, which was the best I could hope for on a day like this.

A couple of things... First, you don't have to bet 3 ante every day in Odd Sumo. So you can play till day 15 with lower bets on strategic days. The other thing is that the Oracle standings are basically meaningless until maybe the last couple of days or so...and even then are quite misleading. There are other ways of tracking your Oracle performance (see the gaming banter thread).

Masters Update... Day 11: Flohru was flying on day 8 but has cooled off somewhat since then. Ganzo lost a little ground too but is still looking strong, mainly due to very strong positions in UDH, Norizo Cup and TTT. He is looking OK for Hoshitori (although that game is volatile) and also Oracle. Norizo and Panda have gained ground and, as I thought, Kaito is also a real contender for the Masters. Projections: 1. Ganzo: 65 2. Panda: 56 3. Norizo: 55 4. Kaito: 54 5. Flohru: 40 6. Jezz, Kishikaisei: 25 8. Andoreasu: 17 As mentioned last time, only Ganzo, Norizo and Panda have the Oracle projections in there so the others may get more if they excel in that game. Norizo's top scores depend massively on his daily performance so if he messes those up, his score could collapse. He is probably the best daily gamer in the world, though, so I fully expect him to close things out without a fuss. Panda's best chances are in the pre-basho games but a few dailies could pay dividends too. Kaito also has a mix of potential earners. All in all, quite an intriguing contest. @Kaito

Day 11 was the perfect antidote to the day-10 Panda nightmare. Won most of the games and the pre-basho is really coming good now. Haven't looked at the Masters situation yet but I've definitely gained on the leaders a bit. Just have to try and have a minimum of three good days in the final stretch and I'll be golden. Really annoying about Juryo Game as well...I'd definitely be challenging for Masters points there if I wasn't such an idiot.

Good ten from Domichi there. High-scoring day all round. KK congrats for Chankoyama and Ronnie. MK commiserations to Ganzo and Rupe. Chanko is one off the pace for the yusho. Mark is two behind in Juryo but no one is going to catch Norizo, who is totally outclassing the field as expected. Ronnie still has a chance in Makushita as well, with slight chances for Steve and Jezz. Day 11: Rank Record Points AADs Opp AADs 10 8+ 5- TB TB+ Who? Lottery day in a lottery basho. The kind of day I always get massacred on. Somehow managed to sneak wins in Toto and Quad but it was woeful elsewhere. SG is really amazing - I absolutely don't deserve to be 6-4 and have been awful but am being blessed with a good-luck basho. I just want 8 at this stage and hopefully some consistency to return to the dohyo before this nonsense shakes me out of the rank. Awful day for the pre-basho games as well so it was a step back. But there are always days like this. Three more decent days and I may be OK for some Masters points.

Had a quick look at the Masters for those over 100 points in the World Championships. I added Ganzo as well as he is having a good basho. Will add Kaito as well next update as he seems to be going well overall too. I have my own method of projection for the Masters. At this stage, it should be seen more as relative strength but it has proved pretty accurate in the past from day 11 or 12 onwards. Current projected Masters totals: 1. Ganzo 76 2. Flohru 72 3. Norizo 48 4. Panda 40 5. Jejima 37 6. Andoreasu 18 7. Kishikaisei 12 The Norizo, Panda and Ganzo scores include projections for Oracle. I am only tracking those this basho (along with DeRosa and C-Y). I will post those projections later if I have time. So looking at this we could have an exciting battle for the title in November. Still early days, though.

Things continue to improve on multiple fronts as most of my picks continue their strong recoveries. Now looking promising in the Japanese games along with Salarycap, Oracle and Rotosumo. Hoshitori looks a step too far and Juryo Game is obviously a write-off with the Ishiura screw-up. Some of the dailies are OK too: ISP, TTT, SG, Toto, even Bench and Quad are looking better. I missed a massive bet by just one loss in Odd Sumo as well. Damn you, Chiyotairyu. I see Jezz got a big score though - expected someone to go 100+ today - it was ripe for it. A strong second week is all I need and I will be back in business.

Odd basho. After an awful start my pre-basho lads are starting to show some promise so I'm starting to approach the top ten in several pre-basho games. The dailies are poor but I am sort of in contention in Toto, SG, TTT and ISP. Nothing spectacular though. A strong second week and I might grab a decent haul of points.
