TORCHBEARER 2023: invitation, rules, and your picks
Saruyama replied to shimodahito's topic in Sumo Games
Takerufuji, Ms13e -
Chain Gang automation botched up today. My default pick was Shohozan, who won, yet I registered as a loss for the day and am out. I'm guessing this probably can't be fixed in time for me to get back in the game. But should be looked at nonetheless.

TORCHBEARER 2016: invitation, rules, and your picks
Saruyama replied to shimodahito's topic in Sumo Games
Not sure if I missed the deadline for this or not, but if not, then I'd like to pick: Homarenishiki and Makushita 16E -

Argentina ET (E2), 8. Brazil 1st, 9. Brazil ET Referee comments: Okay. Seeing as there is not a point scorer anywhere on either line-up. I believe this one goes down to PKs. Am I wrong here? I am confused a little by the rules of this match. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee) (Please let me know if there have been any screw ups on my part)

Argentina is an ® team - so that should be two goals, and so 2-0 to Kotononami. You are very correct, I will go back and edit that post to reflect this.
-
I'm still waiting on a lineup from Kuroimori. Anyone know if there is a better way to reach him than PM? Time is ticking down, 5 hours to go before the deadline I set. If there is a legitimate reason he can't make that deadline, but can get them in before the kickoff I may be willing to extend it a little.
-
Deadline for mine is 3 hours before the match, which is 1 AM Japan time. 1 PM Brazil time.

Kotononami vs Shumitto (Bowl Match): Kotononami: 1. Argentina ®, 2. Netherlands, 3. Colombia (E2), 4. France, 5. Germany (E1), 6. Costa rica © vs Shumitto: 1. Belgium ®, 2. Brazil, 3. Netherlands, 4. Costa Rica (E1), 5. Columbia (E2), 6. xxx Referee comments: This one will of course come down to who's ® team capitalizes. Overtime will allow it to continue, but otherwise it all comes down to that match. A draw will give Shumitto the win however, do to the results on Kotononami's squad. Achiyama vs Nekonishiki (Saucer Match): Achiyama: 1. Argentina (E2), 2. Brazil ©, 3. Germany (E1), 4. France, 5. Colombia vs Nekonishiki: 1. Colombia (E2), 2. Netherlands, 3. Belated Update for Group F (1 &3) vs Group E (2&4) Cup Match: Kotononami vs Furanohana (0-2) Kotononami: 1. Argentina ®, 2. Germany (E1), 3. France, 4. Costa Rica ©, 5. Netherlands, 6. Mexico, 7. Greece vs Furanohana: 1. France ®, 2. Brazil, 3. Netherlands (E1), 4. Costa-Rica, 5. Chile, 6. Nigeria, 7. xxx Referee comments: Furanohana wins (0-2). My condolences to Kotononami. That was a tough one. Furanohana's gamble pays off, Kotononami's not so much. Saucer Match: Leonishiki vs Chabonowaka (0-1) Leonishiki: "Quel le meilleur gagne !!! Let's go France !!" 1. Germany (E1), 2. Brazil, 3. Costa Rica, 4. Switzerland, 5. Nigeria®, 6. Chile, 7. xxx vs Chabonowaka: (The wind whistles through the trees, crickets chirp. We still have not heard from Chabonowaka. We await anxiously to hear from him.) 1. Netherlands ©, 2. Brazil, 3. Mexico, 4. Uruguay, 5. Switzerland, 6. USA, 7. Costa Rica (E1) Referee comments: My previous post had an incorrect result on it, and with corrected results entered... we have a shocker! Chabonowaka wins (0-1) in regular time. I don't think anyone saw that coming. My apologies to Leonishiki for previously listing Germany as a win. I was getting abridged results, and didn't realize the OT nature of the win. My condolences on your loss. So in the end, Furanohana continues on in the cup matches, where I may eventually meet him it seems. Kotononami moves to the bowl matches, where I might have the honor of being his referee again. Chabonowaka stays in the saucer competition. Leonishiki is out. Both my group F players lost.... sad face. Good luck to all in your next matches. Saruyama (THE monkey referee) (Please let me know if there have been any screw ups on my part)

Belated Update for Group F (1 &3) vs Group E (2&4) Cup Match: Kotononami vs Furanohana Kotononami: 1. Argentina ®, 2. Germany (E1), 3. France, 4. Costa Rica ©, 5. Netherlands, 6. Mexico, 7. Greece vs Furanohana: 1. France ®, 2. Brazil, 3. Netherlands (E1), 4. Costa-Rica, 5. Chile, 6. Nigeria, 7. xxx Referee comments: With an Argentina win (in regular time) Kotononami will sweep this (3-0). With a draw or loss (in regular time) he will lose (0-1). Kotononami will surely be watching the Argentina match with baited breath. Saucer Match: Leonishiki vs Chabonowaka Leonishiki: "Quel le meilleur gagne !!! Let's go France !!" 1. Germany (E1), 2. Brazil, 3. Costa Rica, 4. Switzerland, 5. Nigeria®, 6. Chile, 7. xxx vs Chabonowaka: (The wind whistles through the trees, crickets chirp. We still have not heard from Chabonowaka. We await anxiously to hear from him.) 1. Netherlands ©, 2. Brazil, 3. Mexico, 4. Uruguay, 5. Switzerland, 6. USA, 7. Costa Rica (E1) Referee comments: Short of Switzerland shocking Argentina, this one will go into OT mode. Which will require me to go back and re-read just how the heck to do that. So... yay? I would also like to thank Jejima for doing the legwork on correcting the droning line-up for Chabonowaka, who has unfortunately received his second yellow card. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee) (Please let me know if there have been any screw ups on my part)

The lineups for Group F (1 & 3) and Group E (2 & 4) Cup Match: Kotononami vs Furanohana Kotononami: 1. Argentina ®, 2. Germany (E1), 3. France, 4. Costa Rica ©, 5. Netherlands, 6. Mexico, 7. Greece vs Furanohana: 1. France ®, 2. Brazil, 3. Netherlands (E1), 4. Costa-Rica, 5. Chile, 6. Nigeria Referee comments: Kotononami has the numbers, by only 1 though. And both are packing some good teams in their opening spots, so this one should be good. Especially considering both openers are ® teams. That you see is a first for me as a referee... so whee! Saucer Match: Leonishiki vs Chabonowaka Leonishiki: "Quel le meilleur gagne !!! Let's go France !!" 1. Germany (E1), 2. Brazil, 3. Costa Rica, 4. Switzerland, 5. Nigeria®, 6. Chile vs Chabonowaka: (The wind whistles through the trees, crickets chirp. We still have not heard from Chabonowaka. We await anxiously to hear from him.) 1. Brazil, 2. Uruguay, 3. Netherlands ©, 4. Switzerland, 5. Mexico, 6. Mexico, 7. Costa Rica (E1) Referee comments: The Swiss match is a match, so it's scratched. Chabonowaka has the numbers, but Leonishiki isn't droning. So he may have the edge there. That is all for now. (Now is drinking time. Off to the nearest bar for beers, babes, and Brazil.... we can hope) Saruyama (THE monkey referee) (Please let me know if there have been any screw ups on my part)

Sorry, that should be Furanohana. I swear I don't mean to keep messing up everyone's Shikonas.
-
I will accept lineups 2 hours prior to kickoff. That is 11 pm Japan time. 11 am Brazil time. This is for Furonohana, Chabonowaka, Kotononami, and Leonishiki I will also send out a PM related to this.

Group F Round 3 update: Kotononami vs Leonishiki (Result 5-2) Kotononami: 1.France, 2.Argentina ®, 3.Costa-Rica ©, 4.Portugal, 5.Russia, 6.Mexico, 7.Greece, 8.Netherlands, 9.South Korea, 10.Ecuador vs Leonishiki: 1.Brazil, 2.Switzerland, 3.Portugal©, 4.Ivory Coast, 5.Italy, 6.Costa Rica, 7.Chile, 8.Ghana 9.Nigeria®, 10.Cameroon Referee comments: Kotononami remains dominant with a commanding 5-2 victory. Kotononami advances, with authority. While Leonishiki's hopes have evaporated and he heads for the saucer. Kintamayama vs Kaiomitsuki (Result 1-2) Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2. Bosnia ®, 3.Russia, 4. Italy, 5.Greece, 6.Chile ©, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Algeria, 10. South Korea vs Kaiomitsuki: "Two Man Sound feat. () 1. Germany ©, 2. Bosnia, 3. Netherlands, 4. France, 5. Mexico , 6. Greece, 7. Uruguay, 8. Japan, 9. South Korea, 10. Saruyama (THE monkey referee) 1st Kotononami: 9 points GF 9 GA 2 GD +7 2nd Kaiomitsuki: 6 points GF 3 GA 3 GD 0 3rd Leonishiki: 3 points GF 6 GA 6 GD 0 4th Kintamayama: 0 points GF 1 GA 8 GD -7

Group F Round 3 update: Kotononami vs Leonishiki Kotononami: 1.France, 2.Argentina ®, 3.Costa-Rica ©, 4.Portugal, 5.Russia, 6.Mexico, 7.Greece, 8.Netherlands, 9.South Korea, 10.Ecuador vs Leonishiki: 1.Brazil, 2.Switzerland, 3.Portugal©, 4.Ivory Coast, 5.Italy, 6.Costa Rica, 7.Chile, 8.Ghana 9.Nigeria®, 10.Cameroon Referee comments: Currently both have scored 1 goal. However the best that Leonishiki can hope for is a draw, as any result in spot for that wouldn't break his chain will break it spot 3 instead. Any points he gets out of spot 3 will give a point to Kotononami in spot 4. So he needs a draw or win for Portugal and a loss for Russia to get him the draw. Anything else and he loses. Kotononami could potentially post a LOT of points depending on how Russia does. Kintamayama vs Kaiomitsuki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2. Bosnia ®, 3.Russia, 4. Italy, 5.Greece, 6.Chile ©, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Algeria, 10. South Korea vs Kaiomitsuki: "Two Man Sound feat. Plastic Bertrand "Charlie Brown" / "Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / a nossa Sao Paulo terra da garoa / Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / Bahia de Caetano nossa gente boa. / Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie Brown Charlie Brown..."" () 1. Germany ©, 2. Bosnia, 3. Netherlands, 4. France, 5. Mexico , 6. Greece, 7. Uruguay, 8. Japan, 9. South Korea, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: Kintamayama has banked one goal for sure, and a definite break at spot 4. If Germany loses, Kintamaya will win (2-0). If Germany ties, Kintamayama grabs a second goal, and Kaiomitsuki will need a Russia loss or draw just to tie things up. If Germany wins, a Russia loss or draw will hand Kaiomitsuki the win, while a Russia win will result in a draw for all. Confused? Good because now I am too. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)

Group F Round 3 update: Kotononami vs Leonishiki Kotononami: 1.France, 2.Argentina ®, 3.Costa-Rica ©, 4.Portugal, 5.Russia, 6.Mexico, 7.Greece, 8.Netherlands, 9.South Korea, 10.Ecuador vs Leonishiki: 1.Brazil, 2.Switzerland, 3.Portugal©, 4.Ivory Coast, 5.Italy, 6.Costa Rica, 7.Chile, 8.Ghana 9.Nigeria®, 10.Cameroon Referee comments: Things are starting to look not so good for Leonishiki, his team is coloring up all wrong, while Kotononami's is coming up green. However it is green at the wrong end. A bad result at the front could still kill him fast. Kintamayama vs Kaiomitsuki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2. Bosnia ®, 3.Russia, 4. Italy, 5.Greece, 6.Chile ©, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Algeria, 10. South Korea vs Kaiomitsuki: "Two Man Sound feat. Plastic Bertrand "Charlie Brown" / "Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / a nossa Sao Paulo terra da garoa / Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / Bahia de Caetano nossa gente boa. / Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie Brown Charlie Brown..."" () 1. Germany ©, 2. Bosnia, 3. Netherlands, 4. France, 5. Mexico , 6. Greece, 7. Uruguay, 8. Japan, 9. South Korea, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: So far, Kaiomitsuki looks to have a slight lead here. However this game too could turn on a dime depending on how things roll with the Germany and Bosnia matches. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)

Group F Round 3 lineups: Kotononami vs Leonishiki Kotononami: 1.France, 2.Argentina ®, 3.Costa-Rica ©, 4.Portugal, 5.Russia, 6.Mexico, 7.Greece, 8.Netherlands, 9.South Korea, 10.Ecuador vs Leonishiki: 1.Brazil, 2.Switzerland, 3.Portugal©, 4.Ivory Coast, 5.Italy, 6.Costa Rica, 7.Chile, 8.Ghana 9.Nigeria®, 10.Cameroon Referee comments: Kotononami's lack of faith in Netherlands and Mexico may come back to haunt him later. Leonishiki has a the first high in the chain win. Still anyone's match here, though. Kintamayama vs Kaiomitsuki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2. Bosnia ®, 3.Russia, 4. Italy, 5.Greece, 6.Chile ©, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Algeria, 10. South Korea vs Kaiomitsuki: "Two Man Sound feat. Plastic Bertrand "Charlie Brown" / "Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / a nossa Sao Paulo terra da garoa / Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / Bahia de Caetano nossa gente boa. / Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie Brown Charlie Brown..."" ( )1. Germany ©, 2. Bosnia, 3. Netherlands, 4. France, 5. Mexico , 6. Greece, 7. Uruguay, 8. Japan, 9. South Korea, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: There seemed to be a trend of low confidence in Mexico, lots of missed opportunities. Kintamayama grabs a first slot win, but Kaiomitsuki has a healthy looking middle of the chain. This match to, is still anyone's game. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)

Group F Round 3 lineups: Kotononami vs Leonishiki Kotononami: 1.France, 2.Argentina ®, 3.Costa-Rica ©, 4.Portugal, 5.Russia, 6.Mexico, 7.Greece, 8.Netherlands, 9.South Korea, 10.Ecuador vs Leonishiki: 1.Brazil, 2.Switzerland, 3.Portugal©, 4.Ivory Coast, 5.Italy, 6.Costa Rica, 7.Chile, 8.Ghana 9.Nigeria®, 10.Cameroon Referee comments: These lineups are so different, I won't have any idea about which one is looking better until the results start coming in. Kintamayama vs Kaiomitsuki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2. Bosnia ®, 3.Russia, 4. Italy, 5.Greece, 6.Chile ©, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Algeria, 10. South Korea vs Kaiomitsuki: "Two Man Sound feat. Plastic Bertrand "Charlie Brown" / "Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / a nossa Sao Paulo terra da garoa / Se voce quiser vou Ihe mostrar / Bahia de Caetano nossa gente boa. / Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie / Eh meu amigo Charlie Brown Charlie Brown..."" (Video not included, because I couldn't figure out how to transfer it) 1. Germany ©, 2. Bosnia, 3. Netherlands, 4. France, 5. Mexico , 6. Greece, 7. Uruguay, 8. Japan, 9. South Korea, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: Despite Bosnia being in both players 2 slot it is still counted because it is Kintamayama's ® team. I had to look that one up in the rules. So Kaiomitsuki will want a draw there, and Kintamayama will want a win. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)

Final results of round to for Group F. Kotononami vs Kaiomitsuki Kotononami: "ISI-mate Kaiomitsuki is my master in real bench , I hope to have a revenge in this game." 1. Netherlands, 2. Argentina ®, 3. Ecuador, 4. Portugal, 5. France, 6. South Korea, 7. Greece, 8. Russia, 9. Costa Rica ©, 10. Mexico vs Kaiomitsuki: "At the Copa (Co !), Copacabana (Copabana) / The hottest spot north of Havana (here) / At the Copa (Co !), Copacabana / Music and passion were always the fashion / At the Copa....don't fall in love" - Bari Manilão, Brazilian singer 1. Germany ©, 2. Netherlands, 3. France, 4. South Korea, 5. Uruguay, 6. Japan, 7. Bosnia, 8. Greece, 9. Mexico, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: Kotononami pulls off a (2-0) win with some excellent placement. Congratulations. Kintamayama vs Leonishiki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2 Italy, 3. Greece, 4. South Korea, 5. Bosnia ®, 6. Russia, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Chile ©, 10. Algeria vs Leonishiki: "Well, after the collapse of Spain it's time for them to recover so I still trust on them. But I'm sorry about Nigerua, moving them from the first to the last spot. Let's watch some more football!!!" 1. Brazil, 2. Italy, 3. Portugal ©, 4 Nigeria ®, 5. Chile, 6. Switzerland, 7. Ivory Coast, 8. Ghana, 9. Costa Rica, 10. Cameroon (Semi-Droning-Rule entry) Referee comments: Despite his yellow card lineup, Leonishiki pulls off a shocking (4-0) win. Quite the upset in this match. My condolences to Kintamayama who had all his winners down at the end of his chain. Current Standings Kotononami: 6 points +4 Leonishiki: 3 points +3 Kaiomitsuki: 3 points -1 Kintamayama: 0 points -6 As you can see, Kotononami has a commanding lead in the run-up to this last round. It is conceivable that he could be knocked out, but very unlikely. It would require a severe drubbing from Leonishiki, and for Kaiomitsuki to crush Kintamayama. It is possible, but would require a 5 point goal difference swing. Kintamayama is down but not completely out. But with a gap of 9 points between him and current second place... it doesn't look good. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)

Kotononami vs Kaiomitsuki Kotononami: "ISI-mate Kaiomitsuki is my master in real bench , I hope to have a revenge in this game." 1. Netherlands, 2. Argentina ®, 3. Ecuador, 4. Portugal, 5. France, 6. Germany ©, 2. Netherlands, 3. France, 4. South Korea, 5. Uruguay, 6. Japan, 7. Bosnia, 8. Greece, 9. Mexico, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: This match could still go either way, so far solid line-ups on both sides. Tonight/Today/Whatever's matches could make a huge difference. If either Argentina or Germany loses, that will end someone. Let's see how this plays out. EXCITEMENT! Kintamayama vs Leonishiki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2 Italy, 3. Greece, 4. South Korea, 5. Bosnia ®, 6. Russia, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Chile ©, 10. Algeria vs Leonishiki: "Well, after the collapse of Spain it's time for them to recover so I still trust on them. But I'm sorry about Nigerua, moving them from the first to the last spot. Let's watch some more football!!!" 1. Brazil, 2. Italy, 3. Portugal ©, 4 Nigeria ®, 5. Chile, 6. Switzerland, 7. Ivory Coast, 8. Ghana, 9. Costa Rica, 10. Cameroon (Semi-Droning-Rule entry) Referee comments: This match still remains up in the air. Nothing will happen for sure until Sunday's matches (Monday early morning Japan time). So we must wait until then to see what happens. Though Today's match with Nigeria vs. Bosnia is important for Leonishiki. Not nearly as much at the USA Portugal Match though. Kintamayama awaits the results of Korea's match with baited breath. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)

Kotononami vs Kaiomitsuki Kotononami: "ISI-mate Kaiomitsuki is my master in real bench , I hope to have a revenge in this game." 1. Netherlands, 2. Argentina ®, 3. Ecuador, 4. Portugal, 5. Uruguay, 6. Japan, 7. Bosnia, 8. Greece, 9. Mexico, 10. Iran ® Referee comments: A lot of draws in this match-up. It is still anyone's game here. The big action is yet to come, specifically on Sunday, after the Germany v. Ghana and Argentina v. Iran matches. Saturday will also make a pretty big difference, as they are both likely to pull wins in the Sunday games. Kintamayama vs Leonishiki Kintamayama: 1. Brazil, 2 Italy, 3. Greece, 4. South Korea, 5. Bosnia ®, 6. Russia, 7. Uruguay, 8. Mexico, 9. Chile ©, 10. Algeria vs Leonishiki: "Well, after the collapse of Spain it's time for them to recover so I still trust on them. Leonishiki is guaranteed a break at spot 7, but that is way down the list, and a lot could still happen. That is all for now. Saruyama (THE monkey referee)
