Its times like these that I am grateful to no longer be involved in banzuke making for Bench Sumo (or any game for that matter) as this would've given me an aneurysm.
-
I'm still here. I don't have the want or desire to post anymore, but I still frequent the forum (almost daily during the basho, not so much in between).

While looking for news on the KÄ«lauea eruption, I stumbled onto this Konishiki interview. Figured there may be a few people on here who might be interested in seeing what he's up to these days: Konishiki Yasokichi & Chie Lijima

Nice to see something I came up with on a lark almost 17 years ago is still around today. Nice work

Sorry for my absence... work, health, and other issues conspired to consume all my free time and energy. Given that I was already losing interest in Sumo, this effectively hurried the process along. Though I am starting to drift back towards it again, I'm not yet there. I apologize to everyone who plays, has played, Roto and enjoyed the game and my thanks to Golynohana for taking it over and keeping it going so I wouldn't have to shut it down. As far as scoring is concerned... I had three different scales I used for win/loss distribution. They were all based on the same method, which basically compares a players point total to the average (not mean) score for all players in his (or her) division and awarded wins based on the difference. I've used charts #1 and #2 since the game debuted some 11 years ago, while chart #3 has only been in use for about 4 years. Now which one I used depended on a couple of factors. First factor is how tight the scoring is compared to the average. If the scoring spread is large, I will use chart #1 or #3. If the spread is very tight around the average, I use chart #2. Second factor I consider is which chart produces the best overall balance between total wins and losses for all players in their division. Chart 3 is very similar to #1 with some minor alterations and is the one that got used the most towards the end since it tended to fit both criteria very well (most of the time, anyway). If you want these charts Golynohana, PM me and I'll send them to you along with the two excel sheets I used in conjunction with them.

I should call these "provisional" as when they are compiled by hand there is always the possibility of a mistake creeping in. I finally got everyone sorted into their respective divisions ( a task made harder when the functions on my Excel failed to do it for me... (Raging at computer...) ) I still haven't gotten the individual special prizes done, but I wanted to get the standings posted, so that will have to wait. Chisaiyama captured the top division Yusho by a relatively healthy 21 point margin over Gaijingai. The Juryo race was a lot closer, with Choconofuji edging Nagayama by only two points (in fact the top five finishers were separated by only five points). Makushita went to Onigashima, who finished 15 ahead of Furunahana and whose 1481 points was the highest compiled by any player in any division. Congrats!! Scoring was very tight around the average this basho, which surprised me as I expected there would be more variety in the picks. Anyway, this resulted in a shortage of very good W/L records (the Juryo winner only finished 10-5) Chisaiyama (M9w) 1478 11-4 Gaijingai (M5e) 1457 10-5 Torafujii (M11w) 1444 10-5 Flohru (M12e) 1438 10-5 Bafa (M1w) 1429 9-6 Asashosakari (M16e) 1426 9-6 Takanorappa (M2w) 1425 9-6 Kuroimori (M10e) 1424 9-6 Choshu-yuki (M14w) 1419 9-6 Susanoo (M5w) 1411 9-6 Hironoumi (K2w) 1410 9-6 Gibuten (S1w) 1400 9-6 Vikanohara (M9e) 1397 8-7 GONZABUROW (M7w) 1396 8-7 Frinkanohana (O1e) 1387 8-7 Achiyama (M2e) 1384 8-7 Sukubidubidu (M8e) 1383 8-7 Oskanohana (M4e) 1381 8-7 Nomadwolf (O1w) 1378 8-7 Kitakachiyama (K1e) 1375 8-7 Kaiomitsuki (M10w) 1375 8-7 Heikotoriki (M6w) 1374 8-7 Andoreasu (S2w) 1372 8-7 Ruziklao (M13e) 1369 8-7 Doitsuyama (K1w) 1367 8-7 Tosahayate (M3e) 1365 8-7 Jejima (S1e) 1364 7-8 Norizo (Y1e) 1363 7-8 Larissi (M11e) 1358 7-8 Mariohana (M8w) 1349 7-8 Kyodaitimu (M12w) 1316 6-9 Ganzohnesushi (M15w) 1306 6-9 ScreechingOwl (M1e) 1288 5-10 Fatakiyama (M15e) 1288 5-10 Konosato (M6e) 1274 5-10 Leonishiki (M13w) 1262 4-11 Terarno (K2e) 1261 4-11 Saruyama (M3w) 1244 4-11 Andonishiki (M7e) 1232 3-12 Pandaazuma (S2e) 1224 3-12 Takanosushi (M14e) 0 k-7-8 Randomitsuki (M4w) 0 k-7-8 Choconofuji (J2e) 1431 10-5 Nagayama (J10w) 1429 10-5 Hayaikaze (J12w) 1428 10-5 Bill (J1w) 1427 10-5 Hakajusakari (J11w) 1426 10-5 KikoCookie (J7w) 1412 9-6 Zentoryu (J4w) 1411 9-6 Feginowaka (J12e) 1406 9-6 Bunijiman (J6e) 1405 9-6 Kaiowaka (J1e) 1389 8-7 Smoczayama (J9w) 1388 8-7 Fuseigou (J8e) 1376 8-7 Shimodahito (J5w) 1374 8-7 Anjoboshi (J11e) 1348 7-8 Ketsukai (J7e) 1345 7-8 Chishafuwaku (J13w) 1336 7-8 Seki Haruaki (J14w) 1336 7-8 Aome (J8w) 1335 7-8 Fukurou (J4e) 1323 6-9 Metzinowaka (J14e) 1290 5-10 Mischashimaru (J3e) 1277 5-10 Kotononami (J3w) 1274 5-10 Fujiyama (J6w) 1231 4-11 Mariomaru (J10e) 1191 2-13 Hogashi (J5e) 0 k-7-8 Kitanoyama (J9e) 0 k-7-8 Zenjimoto (J13e) 0 0-0-15 Tainosen (J2w) 0 k-7-8 Onigashima (ms2w) 1481 6-1 Furanohana (ms11w) 1466 5-2 Tikozan (ms4e) 1465 5-2 Gurowake (NR) 1449 5-2 Sebunshu (ms12e) 1413 5-2 Mmikasazuma (ms6e) 1409 5-2 Taka (ms1e) 1406 5-2 Airi (NR) 1405 4-3 Harumataikai (ms4w) 1399 4-3 Fujisan (ms6w) 1381 4-3 Asabiru (ms5e) 1361 4-3 Senkoho (ms2e) 1330 3-4 Andrasoyamawaka (NR) 1306 3-4 Profomisakari (ms1w) 1287 3-4 Rowitoro (ms11e) 1251 2-5 Fuheika (ms5w) 1251 2-5 Konizan (ms8w) 1174 1-6 Wamahada (ms10e) 1154 1-6 Marushiki (ms3e) 1075 0-7 Takanokaze (ms7e) 0 K-3-4 Arawaka (ms8e) 0 0-0-7 Kamogawa (ms9e) 0 0-0-7 Asanomeshi (ms13e) 0 0-0-7 Maruyama (ms3w) 0 0-0-7 Sherlockiama (ms7w) 0 K-3-4 Tsunamiko (ms9w) 0 0-0-7 Veshana (ms10w) 0 K-3-4 Shumitto (ms12w) 0 K-3-4

Great job guys (Applauding...) (Kensho parade...)

Final Standings will be posted in a couple of days. I need time to sort everyone into their respective divisions and figure the special prize winners. Its a holiday today and I probably won't have that time until late tomorrow. Sorry everybody.

Sorry this took so long... Juryo was a mess this basho with many players competing for the same rank. I did about half a dozen versions and didn't like any of them. Eventually it came down to needing to get this posted, so I chose the version that was least offensive to my banzuke making sensibilities. Anyway, here it is, hopefully compiled without any errors... Can't believe the basho is over already... ScreechingOwl was the winner of a very tight race in Makuuchi that saw the gap from 1st to 6th at only 16 points. Sukubidubidu had a more comfortable 20-point margin of victory in Juryo, with Mariomaru capturing the Makushita crown by 13. Nice job guys, my hat is tipped to both of you... (I am not worthy...)

Almost forgot to post this... (I surrender...) For the first time that I can remember, we actually had a basho where we didn't loose players tournament to tournament. Instead we had full participation by all players in the Sekitori ranks, 90 participants in all, which is way up from last basho. Hooray. (I am not worthy...) The top division had a really tight finish that saw Jejima edge Randomistuki by one single point to capture the Makuuchi crown. In Juryo, Tosahayate had a bit more comfortable margin of victory, edging Kyodaitimu by 21 points. The Makushita crown went to Hayaikaze, who finished 64 points in front of former Ozeki Fujisan.
