    Haru 2025 discussion (results)

Kumanishiki became a persona non grata in some internet circles by appearing to injure cult hero Moriurara after an utterly needless late shove.

I won't veer further offtopic from here, but I thought it was clear I didn't mean 'global' literally, but that it's all-encompassing in regards to someone's identification. Citizen ID, tax & revenue, national healthcare, electorate, residence, marital status, close family info, and more.

That's what happens when there's no global citizen ID card that you're required to carry at all times and that got all your info on an encrypted chip. From what I heard, the same applies to the US. I'm pretty sure it's standard across most EU member states, though.

And yet your description was still more than enough to make it by far the worst I've experienced in the UK. So... it started out with only allowing me to buy tickets for one day. Spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to buy individual tickets for two different days, as these platforms always allow for, and it ended up with my clearing the basket... and as soon as I did that, I was kicked out to Royal Albert Hall's main webpage! So I panicked for a bit, thinking I'd lost my place in the queue. But alas, incredibly, pressing Back on the browser gave me a whole new 20 minute slot to do my business with them! That's incredibly unsafe; I suspect this makes the queue easy to manipulate. From here, I kept trying to go for the £120 inner circle option. The website kept allocating an £100 outer circle seat for me regardless. Tried that four times, you guessed it, by pressing Back on my browser and restarting the whole process because somehow there just wasn't any legitimate way to take a step back and remain on my slot whilst making changes. So I sighed, gave in and just bought the cheaper ticket. I guess whatever cookie locked that page into 'give new slot' mode, also locked me into that option. That might've been the one I had picked earlier when I had multiple days in mind - genuinely don't remember. Went back to the queue in order to get another one for a different day, in a different device, but weekend was pretty much sold out and ultimately decided against buying a Friday. I guess Wednesday will have to suffice and the rest goes into my Japan pot instead.

Absolutely. I've bought tickets online for UK events through more systems and platforms than I can remember, and Royal Albert Hall's by far the least functional I've used. There's a whole list of issues I could write down based on my experience. But hey, at least I got a single ticket, even if it wasn't the one I was trying to buy - the website kept giving me a slot in a different tier to the one I picked, I just gave up at some point and rolled with the punches.

The kyokai themselves refer to yokozuna as grand champions on their English website.

    New recruits Natsu 2025

That, and the fact Hidenoyama's photo is right on this thread's first post, I guess. Quite a bit of conditioning; I must've read 'Hideno-' soon after and immediately processed it as Kotoshogiku. Anyway. Sounds like Urayama will be a very serious candidate for jonokuchi, jonidan and maybe even sandanme yusho in 2025.

...Really? Must've been a Hideno -yama -umi swaparoo in our heads then. I really did process it as Kotoshogiku yesterday, just like rhyen, and only noticed it was Hidenoumi today.

That was corrected now. I was a bit puzzled with the 'keep sekitori status' quote for Kotoshogiku, but Hidenoumi makes a lot more sense.

Viagogo is Scalpers' Paradise, sadly. I avoid it at almost all costs. Sadly I think people's best chances now reside in being in a quasi permanent lookout for cancellations. I feel like I underestimated how many people would come from all over the world for this. I genuinely thought it'd be a bit of a breeze to get tickets.

Only 240+£ tickets are left for Sunday. 800+£ for Saturday. Weekdays also limited; <150£ tickets only left for Friday. See you there Wednesday! I might pop around on the other days but won't be attending.

I didn't see this coming, but well over 6500 people/bots joined the general sale queue when it opened. I'm not so sure I'll be in, after all.

Meh. Fingers crossed it doesn't get much worse until general sale opens, which is when I'm looking to pounce.

    ex-Tokitsukaze Oyakata arrested

Tinfoil hat on. As idiotic and vile as this is, y'know, it is relatively minor. I wouldn't be surprised this is one of those cases where law enforcement are out for someone in particular (whether it's on their own behalf or not) and nail them for whatever they can.

Moves to make LIVE sumo available abroad underway

If they bother with putting archive footage on demand, then it's safe(ish) to presume that recent streams will also be available as VODs.

Tobizaru & Hidenoumi @ M8, Hatsu 2022 Curiously, that was the basho Hidenoumi was suspended for. He hasn't been back to makuuchi since.

    Nishonoseki Beya Drinking Party Scandal

I'm sure you can find posts of me whining about Yahoo Japan links since as far back as mid 2022. Regarding the event... the progressive in me says, if they were actually having fun, who cares? Pretty sure that's up some guys' alley anyway, figuratively and literally. To each their own, it doesn't cause me (or anyone) problems, so why should I meddle. It's only a (very serious) problem if it was coerced / assault, which the alleged victims will definitely claim to be the case if it gets to the point they need to save their own skin. If proven, that should definitely warrant severe civil/criminal consequences that go beyond ozumo.

I believe Tamanoi hasn't had its foreigner allowance filled since Azumaryu's intai just before Hatsu 2024, so he should technically be free to start as soon as the six month period is done.

No tickets yet, but Royal Albert Hall's page for the event had its illustrative cover photo replaced. Out goes Terunofuji, in comes Hoshoryu's yokozuna dohyo-iri. Surprisingly efficient, they really are putting lots of eggs on this 'big bad yokozuna that everyone wants to beat' basket.

    Yumitori-shiki rikishi news

He'll be back by the time Atamifuji makes ozeki. here's hoping. Regarding Akua, half jokes aside, his level is still good enough for him to possibly earn a promotion back to juryo. Kamito better be ready just in case.
