The bushy sideburn thing on Takamiyama's deshi was more obvious, but it's great to see there's more of these small things.

Sumo Forum's Favourite Sekitori 2025, Triacontakafinals part 4
Koorifuu replied to Jejima's topic in Polls
Oshoumi v Shodai is just mean! First time I've got to this competition, and a bunch of my favourites already lost. -
I was hoping someone else can confirm that; I don't watch that many bouts below makushita, but in the 4 or 5 times I've seen him, this was the only worrying exhibit.

Flying Monkey Trouble - Tobizaru Accused of Bullying
Koorifuu replied to Kaninoyama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
FWIW Satsumasho started out relatively strong back in 2022, making sandanme after three basho in which he went 15-6 (5-2 6-1 4-3)... then hit the wall, and has been stuck in jonidan since. -
Two assorted clips from senshuraku I've wanted to post, but kept delaying it. Asatenmai doing Asatenmai things. Ikazuchido not doing himself many favours.

Flying Monkey Trouble - Tobizaru Accused of Bullying
Koorifuu replied to Kaninoyama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
To be fair, stress has long been connected to hair loss (telogen effluvium), it isn't a farfetched assumption. I really doubt there's an official diagnosis, though -
Hidetora Hanada signs NIL contract with WWE
Koorifuu replied to rokudenashi's topic in Amasumo Discussions
WWE has been taking on plenty of green sportspeople from different backgrounds and teaching them the basics. He should do very well on the physical aspects, given his background, but showmanship is also a must. Thankfully for him, there's been a bit of a culture shift at work in WWE and a bunch of Japanese wrestlers have been relatively successful lately, even with subpar English. Io Shirai (IYO SKY), Kairi Hojo (Kairi Sane) and KANA (Asuka) have all been women's champions, and Shinsuke Nakamura won a Royal Rumble. He could lean on to them. -
I was sure Toyonoshima would be the main one in that query. Then I realised I'm older than I thought.

Luckily it's a son and not a daughter, I guess, or else some spirits would've been very unhappy.

Do we know any news regarding ticket sales? Turns out it wasn't January.

For whatever it's worth, there were murmurs online that Kankuro has regularly been harrassed by multiple other NSK members who are unhappy with his generally non-social disposition, and that they were provoking him into reacting against them, which finally happened.

I looked and indeed; he's had tough luck on the promotion zone. He took 11 victories while ranked ms1-ms5. All but the first two were against future makuuchi, including one against a future ozeki! (And one of the other two was against an ex-juryo).

Probably something along the lines of "Let's slam copyright claims on all their videos."
-
I'm sure plenty of fans will miss Kainoshima, whose intai was already mentioned elsewhere in this forum, too. He stood out due to his technique, relaxed disposition and above all, his overabundance of body hair, he'd regularly get commented on on livestreams.

The mistake here is looking at it as a sport!

He doesn't really have to say names if he already said it's ALL of them, does he?

If they're so serious about having Japanese-born yokozuna only, they should probably start by making sumo cool for youngsters. Letting it decay to the point it's dropped from middle school national sports championships is not it. That being said, I'm all for Hoshoryu's promotion and honestly he's almost always seemed to be like a good model for hinkaku and determination. It's not his fault his uncle is a notorious prick, and it's not his fault that he's constantly associated with him. That Gonoyama bout was the exception and, frankly, good ol' Nishikawa didn't help by stubbornly refusing to budge during that tachiai.

I promise this is the only offtopic post I'll make here. Soo out of that bunch, it got Kusano, Miyagi, Otsuji, Tochimaru, Matsui, Ishizaki and Chiyomaru right. Most of those are their real surnames (all except Tochimaru and Chiyomaru) so they're way more likely to be translated correctly. Still, that's better than 4%! Shoutout to ms11e Heavy Drinker.

You shouldn't ever rely on automated translations for shikona, particularly if it's kanji. 48% of the time you get literal translations that might not even be right in context, 48% of the time they misread the kanji, 4% chance they're right.

This is what I was thinking. They did promise London a yokozuna, with everything that entails. The big guy at the very top that everyone's aiming at, the yokozuna dohyoiri, etc. I'm sure most people won't notice the actual difference, but they'll still be aware there's no big kahuna. It's like pretending your tennis tournament is a Grand Slam but there's no #1, people are going to know that. And neutrals love a good 'the best vs everyone' sports story. Besides, it's still a matter of optics - it wouldn't look good for them to come out saying 'Yeah, well, we were wrong. It turns out there's no grand champion here after all'.
-
Sounds like 'Doing things traditionally at all costs vs those with enough financial acumen to know when to bend a little".
