Natsu 2014 discussion thread **probable spoilers**
botev1921 replied to kuroimori's topic in Honbasho Talk
I have a question to those more knowledgeable. If two rikishi from one stable become yokozuna, does that still mean they won't be facing each other and was ever a time in history with two stablemate yokozuna? -
I am very much interested in the story of this guy - Kasachikara Mitsumasa. He seem to have started sumo when I was still in kindergarten and still participates today at the age of 42. Isn't there some sort of rule regarding certain years of mediocrity before you retire? http://sumoreference.com/Rikishi.aspx?r=740

I am sorry, but since when an Ozeki, who has managed just one yusho and ONLY three 11+ basho is worthy of a promotion? -

Who can tell me when was the last time a Yokozuna was promoted without having won a single yusho, cause I keep reading those comments about how Kisenosato blew his yokozuna chance this basho. Is there a rule for consecutive jun-yusho that can lead to promotion? -

One must be feeling very optimistic to consider Kotooshu capable of getting back to Ozeki. I watched some of his matches merely a year ago and he looks nothing like that now - and that was a year ago when he was already on a decline. To me he was done some time after July 2009, so good 4 years of Ozekihood is amazing achievement. Now it's time to think of the future. Of course there is always a chance the likes of Kisenosato and Kakuryu underestimate him, but what good would it be to get back to Ozeki when you don't feel good enough for Tochiozan? -
I would never pay for stream-quality, which might not even run well (depending on the connection). I would pay for HD quality videos, even if they are uploaded right after the last bout! Reasonable price would be 10-20 Euro per basho.

I know what you're getting at, but calling a Yokozuna with three zensho and two 14-1 yusho worst in history? Gimme a break.I fully agree. Within his first seven Yokozuna basho, Harumafuji has conceded nine kinboshi. Of course, this seems like a lot, but others had to give away many more kinboshi in the same timeframe (11 for Mienoumi, 15 for Wakanohana III, 17 for Tochinoumi). Some of you may still vaguely remember this guy. He also gave away nine kinboshi in his first seven basho, and I am not sure if anybody named him worst yokozuna in history back then. This guy had 4 yusho in his first 7 basho as yokozuna by the way.
-
Go to the database, fetch up the list of Yokozuna, scroll down to Onokuni and start checking the records of some of those guys. Then see if you can come back here and say that Harumafuji is the worst in history. Don't fucking patronize me for having an opinion different than yours! I don't give a shit about records and stats and I base my opinion on what I see. The guy is a mess and in no way deserving of any respect in my opinion and you are to respect it just like I respect your right to disagree!
-
He's choking a bit on it, but to me it sounds like Satoyama. Why are the rikishi after their first career-kinboshi all in tears this basho? It's only Harumafuji they won against (Oops!) A win against yokozuna is a win nonetheless. It remains part of the sumo profile of the particular person. Shohozan and Aoiyama will never reach the highest ranks, so this one counts as an achievement. It doesn't mind the win was against the worst yokozuna in history.

How about Tokushinho - 10-5 gets you from Juryo 10 to 6. I know I have been following sumo for just around 15 years, but I can't recall anything like that!
-
Shocking, you show 2-3 pics of my guy (just because he is with the others at one of the biggest beya) and now he is over-hyped too? Sarcasm or pure idiotism? If I knew better, I would say you are British.

I apologize for the following response in advance! Moderator Notice cut for various reasons Once again, I apologize for the language but the pure fact this thread is active shows the moderators seem to be fine with talking bullshit! Moderator Notice no, we are not

What I mean is that you basically turn those "masses" discussions into 3-4 pages with 90% being info about one or two people and half of it having nothing to do with the actual prep but some random chat about Ikioi singing sumo jinku or Osunaarashi not eating again...I might be annoying you, but looking back I see several people expressing interest in Baruto for example and I doubt there is NO info whatsoever on him. Any don't get me started on the over-hyped rikishi - even in Holland one paper wrote about the amazing journey of Osunaarashi...what journey, he is Juryo 9 and has been in Japan for less than 2 years...please, give me a break!
-
This should be prep of the masses and all I read about are the over-hyped masses basically. Can somebody cover a bit more from other rikishi? What's up with Baruto, Goeido, Aoiyama, Kaisei?
-
Aoiyama might not even get to 8, never mind double digit wins. He showed against Ama he does not have a clear strategy or idea what to do and facing Hakuho tomorrow means 5-4. Baring any schedule advantages, I can't see him winning three with that attitude!

Here is a video of Raiden ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9wOHJa-GgI Now seriously, I don't think you can compare 19th century Ozeki with modern day Ozeki as nobody really knows how great the first were. To me the best Ozeki will always be Chiyotaikai - a guy who stood strong against some of the biggest Yokozuna!
-
Could you post some more details from the events? How do the different guys look, any injuries, etc.
-
That very common injury..............weak heart. Yeah, sure. I hear he has a genuine issue with his elbow
-
Based on your knowledge who will have a better shot at going up - Sotairyu from J4 with 10 wins or Sagatsukasa from J2 with 8?
-
In my local football team we have 2 Brazilians and both of them have Italian passports. South American countries are really suffering when it comes to visa and work regulations.
-
From the more recent, I recall this one...I was really impressed with Harumafuji here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UNV1_hNzA0A#!

One for the Oosunaarashi fans!
-
You have more than one sumo forum in Brazil?
-
Culture...you can't beat it. If Hakuho's winning streak was ended by a henka, I would have blamed Hakuho for not being good enough to anticipate it and punish it - after all a great champion must be prepared for anything.
