You can not only say 38 consecutive double-digit bashos as yokozuna, but also he has only double-digit bashos as yokozuna so far (never less the 10 win/per basho as yokozuna).
-
But that made it all easier. Just remember Asashoryus Tsuna-run: back there, there was no really competion for him left in the bashos and he got two quite easy 14-1 Yushos. But in the end he deserved the rank, regardless of the circumstances of his promotion. So why should it be different for Goeido?! If he deserves the rank, than I don't care about the how.
-
The performance of Goeido reminds me of that from Wakanosato back in ~2004. Quite talented, nice to watch, but in the end not really a candidate for the ozeki rank.

I hope do dont mind if I prefer to post my tips here :) (plain style, so I guess so its easier to import) Kotodaigo; Kotofukuju; Koba; Shineiyama; Wakakasuga; Busaizan; Horikiri; Raomaru; Kinunonami; Kimishima; Asanishimura; Daijo; Oisato; Sasano; Umetsu; Thank you!

Hakuho 13-2 Kisenosato 11-4 Harumafuji 14-1 Kakuryu 10-5 Osunaarashi N Kotoshogiku 9-6 Teranofuji Y Irie N Gochozan Y Kansei N Amuru Y Manazuru N Hokutohara Y Endo N (damn, that's pretty hard... he's good, but his hurt ankle worries me...) TB: 11

No. And never. He is too prone to injuries to have at least a chance of winning the title in makuuchi. Maybe a Juryo Yusho, when he is back there... And what about Harumafujis pre-basho preparations? I miss some news about him?!

Will Hakuho (be allowed to) surpass Taiho's yusho record?
Tsubame replied to krindel's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Taiho was still half-japanese, with a japanese mother... so I would guess he had a japanese citizenship from his birth on. On the pro-side of letting Hakuho try to surpass the old recods, is the fact that that would definetly rise the attention for sumo. Most kinds of sport are then most interessting (even for person who are not interessted in that sport at other times), when a record is about to get set. For me it is a good indicator to watch/listen the dohyo-iri. -
Will Hakuho (be allowed to) surpass Taiho's yusho record?

There we have: Kisenosato (possible tsuna-run) Endo (newest fresh japanese hope) Jokoryu (former japanese hope) Goeido (possible ozeki-run) the bunch of well performing Chiyo***'s Osunaarashi If Hakuho would suddently retire tomorow, sumo would be quite more interessting, at least to me. Because then you cannot clearly predict who will win the yusho, which is far more entertaining then the last bashos. -
I have to look twice... (Scratching chin...) Aran without his three-day beard... was hard to recognize

Will Hakuho (be allowed to) surpass Taiho's yusho record?

I guess the NSK will do nothing against Hakuho in a direkt way. That would be too obvious and suspicious. But on the other hand I can really imagine that the "old hardliner" will do erverything that is possible to make sure, that Hakuho will never get more yushos than Chijonofuji. There are nice ways to do that, for example, after he gets his 29. or 30. yusho, he will be honoured with some special tasks to represent sumo in new ways (or whatever reasons they find), sending him around Japan or even the whole world. Those tasks will take time and will given him less time to train. But Ican also imagine a totally ridiculous plot against him (worst case scenario): after his 30. yusho and the next basho is like be won by him. Maybe some magical tsukebito (is a deus ex machina style) will show up and testify that he and maybe others was abused by him for years. Of course the NSK will gratefully accept his intai... -
Intresting point... sometimes you have to look carefully to find something to critisizes about Hakuho.
-
I guess the answer is 42.
-
If I remember correct, is this not exactly how the rank was created?! Yokozuna... just a special kind of ozeki. Regarding Hakuho, I wonder when someone come up with Hakuho = sumo kami ;-)
-
Maybe Goeidos Tsukebito forgot to transfer the plot for the fight to him. So Goeido did not know how it was expected from him to lose... :-S
-
His second, not really convincing victory this tournament... Even if he wins, he is still able to feed the discussions about his yokozunahood ;)
-
If Endo develops his sumo he can easily surpass Jokoryu as the "bearer of japanese hope". :-D
-
Nice to see Endo in the Top10, I wonder when this happend last time, that a makuuchi debutant was there...
-
Today it happend... (Eh?) (and brought him his first win of the tournament)
