Non-K-November basho 2020 Discussion (spoiler space)
Tsubame replied to Akinomaki's topic in Honbasho Talk
You forgot Terunofuji on the list. I am curious... Am I the only one NOT seeing Terunofuji returning to ozeki? He is now in a (banzuke) position, where he has to fight the best sumotori on a regular basis. And his fightig style relys heavily on strength and force. I cannot see his body maintaining top performance over three bashos for 33 wins or even more. Is he someone to recon with for a yusho? Definitely, yes. But returning to ozeki-hood? No. I just cannot see this. -

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Haru 2020
Tsubame replied to Asashosakari's topic in Honbasho Talk
Only one of the seven others didn't made it to yokozuna. So, quite a nice company he is joining there. #FiringUpTheHopes -
When do we start talking about Aoiyamas yusho and the beginning of his ozeki run? #justkidding

As the title already said: Could there be a new third Hakuho-style dohyo-iri? As Hakuho is already slightly altering his original picked Shiranui-style, I wonder now for quite some time, if it is possible that he will intruduce an unique dohyo-iri style someday?! As far as I know there should be no rule that explicitly forbits a new style, or am I wrong? And as he is where he is, I can totally imagine that he wants to have his very own style. So I am curious: what are you thinking about this matter?!

OoC: Could there be a Hakuho-style dohyo-iri?
Tsubame replied to Tsubame's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Not exactly, as he doesn't raise his hand up in the air in the second part of the dohoyo-iri before the last "stomp", but rather hold his kesho-mawashi with both hands. It is only a marginal variation, a henka, but this observation brought me this this question. As compared to Wakanohana III, you will not see this position or part at the end: -
When does the Tokushoryu-Next-Ozeki-Hypetrain depart?
-
It has to be. With set 42 rikishi in Makuuchi, there is no lower rank then M17w possible.
-
I guess Endo forgot to engage Basho-mode today...
-
With Tochinoshin being MK tomorrow, he will be trading places with Takakeisho (S <-> O) twice this year!
-
Since when it is not acceptable to lose against a certain rikishi?! What strange standard is that?!
-
Are you implying that he finally starts his ozeki-run?!
-
The correct answer has to be 20%. Hakuho gave away 20 kinboshi alltogether. And only four of them to fellow mongolian: Shotenryu, Arawashi, Takanoiwa and today Ichinojo. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&shikona1=hakuho&rank1=y&onlyl1=on&shusshin2=59&rank2=m

Which all has nothing to do with the work within the sumo association. It's like in football (soccer) where you find a lot of very successful players, who became terrible head coaches. Being good in sports does not also mean being good at managing this sport.
-
This tournament without a doubt! Why? Because the Natsu had a shin ozeki, a sekiwake trying to get his ozeki rank back, some alot new guys finally in makuuchi and a quite nice basho race. Without Hakuho competing you have a lot of possible winner names on your list. The last basho had only two interesting questions: will Hakuho get a zensho (yes) and will Takakeisho get his promotion (yes). But beyond that? Only Ichinijos 14 victories were quite remarkable, but since he could not tie up to this performance, you will remember this as a fluke (somehow).

Same angle and section of the video footage. Be your own judge:
-
His point was not about the video booth itself.

Yes. Putting on a tinfoil hat: They are still angry at Tochinoshin and still try to hamper his progress. So, of course they grab every chance they get. (disclaimer: this is not a serious post, but an entertaining)
-
Isn't it a little bit sad, that getting six consecutive kashikoshi is a mentionable feat for an ozeki?
-
And for something completely different: Is there a special reason why Yokozuna Kakuryu (and his attendants) always wears the same kesho-mawashi set for his dohyo-iri ceremony?
-
The Kosho-system should be reinstalled, but not as an automated system, but merely as a system where sumotori who injuried themself in a Hon-Basho can make an application to the NSK to get the kosho status granted. The NSK can order an advisory opinion from a medical expert and then act acordingly. This is just a rough outliner, there is need for some finetuning, but the basic idea should be clear.

Goeido could have given the pile of kensho back to the gyoji as a sign of appreciation.
-
I wonder why Shodai bothered to get up today?! He could have spared a lot of trouble and effort for a bunch of people, if he just stayed at home today.

Playoff bouts are not part of the normal winning-losing wrestler statistics and do not interfere with winning or losing streaks. They just determine who is getting the trophy or not. Just like the penalty shoot-out in football tournaments ("soccer" for our american friends) is still a draw in regards of ranking points for both teams. The shoot-out just determines who advances to the next round or who is England.
