Hi! Still having a lot of free time, I finally got around to fixing my picture slideshow. Special pictures of rikishi on the dihyo, not the usual stuff..I hope you enjoy it!! http://www.dichne.com/slideshow.htm works with IE only, for some reason..

Sorry, this game died a few bashos back due to general lack of interest..I like it , and Manekineko liked it, and that's about it...

Hi! It was an interesting one, this..Looked completely impossible at first. Major problems: 1. Komusubi? 2. Order of Maegashira 1 east and west. 3. Mid-Maegashira-due to the three suessive (M8,9,10) koshos, who to fit in? 4.Promotions and demotions. In the end, it was one of the highest scoring games ever..Go figure.. 79 participants:A new record by far. Winner was Gernobono, who edged out ST/SO riji Zenjimoto in a tie-breaker. Congratulations, and please send me your e-mail so I can add you to my long list of people to whom I owe their prizes. They will be sent out by the end of a week, and that's a promise!! Thank you all very much for playing; thanks to Andoreasu for his DB and Doitsuyama for the excel sheet, and Stewart Nelson for the nifty entry form, and all players for taking precious time off in order to play this annoying game.

A kneidalach is a matzoh ball in Yiddish. Funny as it sounds, that's the truth..

Kintamayama is a miniscular yak who looks at mirrors from the back, only to find Gideon's Bible. In retrospect, though, nothing he does appears. And vice versa.

So, which day do the yusho winners lose?
Kintamayama replied to Yubiquitoyama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Oh, but you see, the GTB is not guesswork-it's called guess the banzuke, but there are things to know in order to be better, and there are players who have consistently been good over the years, so that pretty much rules out dumb luck.you don't play against anyone, injuries are not a factor, etc.. You do need some degree of luck, but I'd say it's a large amount of knowledge, even compared to all the major games. For sure!! Awaiting your entry!! -
Well.. The results of the not-much-voters-gee last poll can be viewed at: http://www.dichne.com/Archive.html Thanks again.

What's your opinion about the latest allegations of severe hazing towards new recruits/low ranked rikishi in Ozumo? (Poll by Zenjimoto) Please vote at: http://www.dichne.com Thanks as usual..

Except day 8 of course, with its 34.. -
The zabutons are in the sunakaburi seats and in the masu seats. In the cheap seats where we plebs usually are, just red, normal, cushioned seats, but with no zabuton.. Sorry. but if we go together and Touki finally beats one of the Yokozunae, (fat chance..), I'll let you throw ME..

Hmmm... I would have to go with the Oyakata's on this.. Even Ichinoya is way too young for me.. But guess what? Not one, single , solitary active Oyakata, coach or rikishi were born in my year!!

I, without a doubt, am not an extremely attractive anything. Yet, I managed to see all of the Juuryou action on my second- ever romp to the K-Kan from the sunakaburi place(tamari-seki). I was given many a dirty look by the not-so-nice ladies who patrol the area with a mighty hand but after I explained to them in street-Japanese that i actually can tell Mainoumi from Susanoumi on any given day, I was allowed to stay.. I sat there, until a VERY extremely atractive Japanese lady came and claimed her seat, which was in the last row of the sunakaburi zabutons (they are zabutons, not seats, to be precise..). It is fun playing the "Sunakaburi seat musical chairs". you sit there from the beginning (BTW, the beginning is at 09:00) and hope your place doesn't get claimed. When it does , you move backwards a space. then, to a masu-seki box. And so on, till you're left in your "real" seat , which is always up in the nose bleed bleachers, from where everyone on the dohyo looks the same except Touki. It is in no way aggravating anyone,as long as you don't act rudely or make a mess. Many locals do it, and some of the ML members are very apt at this, and have turned it into an art form. Still, going to the K-kan is the single best experience any Sumo lover (or anyone, for that matter..) can have.

This one is by far the best, in my humble opinion, and Yubi posted it years ago..April 2001, to be exact.. http://www.swany.ne.jp/minba/u/nif6.html

Who's your favourite among these new comers in '02
Kintamayama replied to Hoshifransu's topic in Polls
No. They can't fight each other because they are the HAIRIEST Sumotori.Together with Musa, they form the "Hairy Coalition of Musashigawa". -

Interesting discussion..I think the simple fact is that world basketball is closing ranks with the Americans. there are now nearly 100(!!) non-Americans on NBA teams. Only around 30 play regularly, but the rest get to train with the best in the world, and this de-geiko usually helps.. The fact that the top ten players didn't participate(some are injured, some don't want to spend their summers sweating, and some don't give a damn)is also important, though I think its importance is more in morale than in anything else. And, most importantly, the rules of the game as played in these tournaments are different. The other teams in the past got over this barrier because they fielded great players. This team was quite mediocre, and one Reggie Miller can not save the day. still, what i like most was the way they took their losses(3 of them, BTW..) in stride. Their coach said it was good for world basketball, the players all said the best team won, etc. No looking for someone to blame, no accusations- just a promise to do better next time. Never ever saw that in any team in football..always the blaming, always the referee, always the cook, the coach-but never the players. (See France, Italy,Spain..) Anyhow, we'll see in a couple of years..

I have read this whole thread with great interest. I always read threads with great interest. Otherwise I wouldn't read them. Everyone has a point somewhere that makes sense, but here are my two bits: I've learned from life and conducting the Sumo polls, that we never know anything in advance. It's always not right to judge someone by his past- see Musa for example. I remember very distinctly how we ALL laughed Musa into oblivion. The poll "killed" him. And now he's OK..And he was an Oozeki for quite a long time, if I remember corrosively. And there's Chiyotenzan- he came up like a thunderbolt and was crowned the next Oozeki. And there are many more examples, but it's too hot to remember. My point is- there are guidelines implemented by Men in Black as to who is worthy of a promotion. These guys have proven along the years that they are usually right.(Who mentioned Miyabiyama??)Waka's promotion ultimately brought along his premature retirement, but we all sensed that he wanted to retire, that he was fed up. So some of us may have been right in saying he should never have been promoted, and some of us may think he would have retired regardless, since he would have been kadoban with those injuries, and who knows where he would have ended(who said Dejima??). I say, all promotions are justified, since they are decided upon by a BODY of men who we can reasonably be sure have the good of Sumo in their minds. Sure, they make the occasional blunder, but percentage-wise, they are batting well over 70 percent. So if the little yellow-haired gangster will be promoted to Yokozuna on the merit of his last two basho's achievements, that's how it should be-promotion based on his ACHIEVEMENTS, regardless of the fact that he had a mediocre past as an Oozeki(a fact to which I too disagree completely..) And if he doesn't cut it as a Yokozuna, he will be shown the door. If we try to implement some other way of calculating(like they did unjustly with Konishiki), we'd have one Yokozuna and two Oozekis. They may be ultimately strong, but we'd be definitely bored. Seeing an inept Oozeki crumble is sometimes as exciting as seeing a great one. It's all part of the captivating world of Sumo..
