Haha, that was hilarious. The head shinpan’s voice didn’t sound the same as the one I hear in makuuchi, is he a different one…?

Nagoya 2013 Videos- Promo and All Days

Jason’s commentary (from NHK footage) said that it looked like he was pulling, but he wasn’t totally sure. Wish he had uploaded those replays.

I wonder if that guy in the crowd was injured by Hakuhō falling over him…?

    Yokozuna/Ozeki preperandum - Nagoya 2013

Thanks for the translation. Isn’t this impossible? At best it could be a 14–1 kettei-sen? Unless I’m misunderstanding the word’s meaning.

What did the other 3 write? 2nd to the left is Hakuhō zenshō, but the other two?

Sorry for making a possibly stupid topic, but I came across this video and was wondering what is going on?

What’s the specific definition of a jun-yūshō? Is it being mathematically in the race until the final day?

His hyperventilation has little to do with his weight. He has underdeveloped lungs. Didn't we establish already some time ago that it is in fact a congenital cardiac valve condition that severly limits his stamina? = It is not his lungs! A heart condition wouldn’t leave him out of breath. Wikipedia says this: “Masunoyama has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and also has lungs smaller than the average person. […]. He also has a portable oxygen tank he uses during practice when he is feeling out of breath.”

ZENSHŌ!!! Harumafuji tried again his sidestepping tachi-ai, but it worked against him this time.

First paragraph: are you saying that a henka wouldn’t beat Kisenosato because he doesn’t move forward? Hakuhō beat Kisenosato by henka just a few basho ago, after everyone got fed up with Kise’s tachi-ai antics. And how can you say that Kisenosato is far from yokozuna material? Hakuhō is certainly on another level, but if Harumafuji can be a yokozuna, then the Kisenosato of this basho can certainly be, too; not just for his strong W–L record, but also because he dominated all his bouts up to fighting Hakuhō. Bouts I’ll be looking forward to tomorrow: Kotoōshū vs. Kakuryū: deciding for Ōsh’s demotion; Kisenosato vs. Kotoshōgiku: Kise needs to win for a chance at yūshō; Hakuhō vs. Harumafuji: if their previous bouts are anything to go by, it’s gonna be a great match, and deciding for the yūshō. Oh, and at this point I expect Myōgiryū to have won the Outstanding Performance sanshō.

It wasn’t really a henka, it was just sidestepping, something Harumafuji did a lot this basho. Kisenosato certainly displayed yokozuna-level sumō this basho, and I hope he can continue this way. It would be fantastic to have 3 yokozuna! Oh and by the way, I really liked how Kisenosato went like “I won’t take your shit” at the first tachi-ai, when Hakuhō wasn’t putting his hands down. Tomorrow is gonna be another exciting day, Harumafuji certainly has the capabilities of beating Hakuhō, and seeing Kisenosato’s form nothing short of Hakuhō would beat him (I’m not sure, but is he fighting Kakuryū?). Edit: he’s fighting Kotoshōgiku.

Osh has already faced Kisenosato. Right, I forgot about that. He still has a chance to make kachi-koshi, then; just has to beat Aoiyama tomorrow and then hope to get a win in the last 3 days. It’s gonna be hard to get that last win, though; considering in what form his opponents are. Could this be the time for Kotoōshū to lose his ōzeki status? I hope he can somehow pull through, either against Kakuryū or Kotoshōgiku.

Hakuhō and Kisenosato at 11–0, Kakuryū at 10–1 and Harumafuji at 9–2, anything could still happen. Kotoōshū will have to beat at least one of the latter three in order to retain ōzeki status, having failed against Hakuhō today.

Kisenosato is certainly doing very well, but so is Hakuhō. Kisenosato has a chance, but it’s to be seen what’ll happen in the final days.

I’d prefer that he takes the time he needs to fully heal the injury before coming back, he aggravated it once already and now it doesn’t look good either… stay put for a year if that’s what you need, then come back. He’ll just break himself beyond repair.

Kotoōshū giving Okinoumi his first win; I was just thinking if he were to get one now would be the chance. Sad to see Kotoōshū underperforming as usual, though, after what looked like a good start…
