…I get 40°C pretty often when I get the yearly flu. I’m miserable in bed for a week always having to chug medicine the few hours I stay awake so I’m not in pain and can go back to sleep (my mom nurses me). I recall actually drinking coke myself, on doctor advice I think. I think it’s been 2 years since last time it’s happened though so I don’t recall exactly what I drank/ate, but it wasn’t very much at all because I wasn’t able to eat for the most part. I’m a fairly fit person (do some weight lifting) and every time I come out of one of those weeks I lose a ton of muscle mass and fat.

The pronunciation is not the same, just very similar.

With how rikishi typically soldier on regardless of whatever ailments they have I half expect them to just get the whole banzuke infected and not care.
-
It indeed was before the time of some members. OBSC is old news. This happened when Kotoōshū and Kakuryū were still ōzeki. The new guard doesn’t care to do it.
-
Yeah I think it’s just to practice movement while keeping your center of gravity low. Many rikishi don’t seem to put much effort into it and don’t squat much during it though.

…Does anyone have a picture or something? Like, what…? What even happened here?

The way you call him “Oh” is so confusing. lol

Cupping is nothing new in sumō. Mitakeumi had it done too.

2019 Aki Basho Discussion (spoiler alert!)
ALAKTORN replied to code_number3's topic in Honbasho Talk
Mitakeumi henka?! Has he ever done that before? I don’t recall such. Was really surprised. Okinoumi got a win that wasn’t his, looked to me. Takakeishō yūshō? He’s gonna be yokozuna. Happy for him he seems healed and made the right decisions. -
Women in sumo? Around the world and in Japan
ALAKTORN replied to Kaminariyuki's topic in Ozumo Discussions
You’ve changed the statement from ''within Japan'' to ''people actually buying tickets and supporting sumo''. While I’m sure there was some of the latter too, that is not what we had been arguing. -
Women in sumo? Around the world and in Japan

“Tradition” is a horrible excuse for anything. That was a different issue (about women not being allowed on the dohyō, rather than compete in ōzumō) and yes, there was demand within Japan to “modernize”. Plenty of stuff about it has been posted in this forum. -

Why? Because they’re weaker? Then they’d naturally be “banned” rather than having to institute a ban for no real reason. *colossally -

I think the point was just to allow women in ōzumō, not keep them apart. I’m not sure what kinda concerns there might be in mixing sexes in such a scantily-clad contact sport, otherwise I think it’d be just sexism to not allow them. -

Is it me or was Takakeishō limping after his win? I hope he’s alright… -
2019 Aki Basho Discussion (spoiler alert!)
ALAKTORN replied to code_number3's topic in Honbasho Talk
I think the heavy yotsu specialists can typically just win by yorikiri, while the lighter ones (Harumafuji, Chiyonofuji, maybe could consider Hakuhō lighter too?) are very good at nage. Though there’s also Tochinoshin as a light weight yorikiri-er… Maybe weight doesn’t affect yotsu ability that much, but it certainly does oshi– you can’t be an oshi specialist without weight on you. Yeah I know Abi exists but I don’t think he’s that great of a rikishi, maybe he could be a point if he ever makes ōzeki at least. -

I didn’t see anybody give an explanation for it. My question was obviously not literal. -

Did you guys notice how the gyōji that was sitting ringside tried to take over when Tamajirō fell off? I’ve never seen that before. I guess it makes sense that another gyōji would have to take over if the one officiating the current bout is incapacitated. Also I’m sorry about it but I had to rewatch the bout several times before I could stop laughing about the gyōji’s fall and actually see what happened in the bout. -
My God are you guys seeing the calves on this dude? He’s jacked. It seems to me like he’s ready to go, he’s been sitting out for a really long time I don’t think more time would do him any particular favor. Hopefully he’s good and gets the 10.

I think I’d do it because it seems like a fun thing to do, but at the same time I don’t really want to celebrate the underdogs because I like the yokozuna winning. Still though it’d probably be something of a once in a lifetime thing to do if it ever happened, so why not do it?

…Mitakeumi has a longer Sekiwake run than Gōeidō now? No way…
-
Don’t think anybody else mentioned him so I will, Kyokutenhō. Even when really old he still had amazing nage technique. Whom I really miss most is prime Hakuhō, though. …And all of his best rivals, as if Hakuhō were in his prime now he’d just be killing rikishi left and right apart from Kakuryū.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Nagoya 2019
ALAKTORN replied to Asashosakari's topic in Honbasho Talk
8–7 is nowhere near good enough for an extra Sekiwake slot. -
Looks to me like Dejima was doing BS at the tachiai. That’s one time I think henka is deserved, unlike with Kotoshōgiku. I had a feeling Kakuryū was gonna win that bout but I still wanted Hakuhō to take it. Oh well.

Probably because Ichinojō isn’t the greatest rikishi of all time. lol I was simply explaining why Hakuhō lost. It’s the first basho in his career where he’s sporting double elbow supporters– he’s at his most broken yet. His career might not last much longer. You could tell during the bout that Hakuhō tried using his right (IIRC) to break Ichinojō’s grip but just couldn’t muster enough strength to do so. I’m not trying to take anything away from Ichinojō, I’m simply giving a technical explanation of the bout. I don’t know why you’re all attacking me as if I said some blasphemy against Ichinojō. If angry Ichinojō was his default state (healthy back? who knows), he’d easily be yokozuna, we all know he’s good when he wants to be.
