I have seen many losses like the Sugishta's one in my short amateur sumo life. I have seen guys who have been ganbarizing in keiko for months and really wanted to win in a tournament to loose like this. If you think that it is easy just to run into a strange big guy with your head, just try it it. It is not. If you think that you can slack around in Naruto-beya, then you're wrong. This boy probably gets pushed beyond his limits every day. After all that, getting only the left overs when everyone else finished eating does not make it easy to build one's body. However, if you want to use the thread just to laugh at the young boys who live the thoughest lives in Ozumo, go ahead.

yaocho (Clapping wildly...)

Speaking of Kotooshu, he was confused yesterday staring at me wondering: what do "I of Todai" do on the other side of dohyo :-/ (I was sitting close to Hakuho)

:-/ but please let's not take the thread away from Verena's art

study, sumo, :-/

Buryat girls can be very pretty. Anyway, it was nice to finally meet you, Verena. It was my first time at Honbasho in Kokukigan and I really enjoyed that. But despite I had a perfect seat, I don't think I managed to take any good pictures. I'll have a look at them today, but with the dim lighting and the speed of sumo I am pretty sceptical about the results. I realized how difficult it is what you camerawomen (plus the Irish bloke) do for us every day. (Showing respect...) ;-) (In jonokuchi...) Moreover, when I saw the heroes in person yesterday, I got motived to try to squeez more training again in between writting my thesis. (Lifting weights...) :-/ :-)

Isn't he Daishouchi?

Sakaizawa's mawashi was terribly loose (Clapping wildly...)

On the other hand, Ichihara didn't seem so motivated at the Worlds.

you're funny

He had one against Chiyotaikai, correct. I remember the first one, against Dejima who already had a hurt leg which Asa "cleverly" utilized by kicking against it. It was painful to see... I lost my last match by ketaguri. Conincidentally, the opponent opted to kick the leg I had a cast on.

In this case なめる means to take lightly, think little of, or underestimate. So, "You can't (or shouldn't) take him lightly." Or didn't Asa mean that Aminishiki shouldn't (take it/yokozuna lightly, think little of , or underestimate) and) pull such trick on him? The full quote is: (安美錦の変化に対応し)変わってくるんじゃないかと思っていたから。なめちゃいけないよ。一瞬、頭に来たけれど。 That "keredo" at the end suggests to me that the one you shouldn't nameru is Aminishiki. Basically, "I thought he would henka. You can't underestimate him. I did see red for a moment, though." Your reading is certainly not impossible, though. I suppose we'll have to wait for one of our resident 日本人 to tell us which one they think it is. Thanks for the full quote. Sounds reasonable. The best would be to get it confirmed by some resident mongolian japanese speakers (In a state of confusion...)

Thanks again for looking this up and sharing it. (Btw. I would interpret the Asa's quote that it cheered up the crowed rather then him.)
-
Thank you (I am not worthy...) I would just interpret some detail from your Japanese quotes slightly different : Tomozuna-oyakata seems to be saying that after having been shown such uwatenage one starts to dream (perhaps about yusho and more), but as you said.. I guess Asaseki is proud of having the last bout with Shuz. And perhaps Chitaikai has been thinking about less positive things related to their high age (retirement) but looking at Kaio makes him feel that 30 is not that much
-
He's hyped because he's from a national college not because he's supposed to be stronger than the other newcomers.
-
I broke my toe just before the worlds. Naruto-oyakata appearently would not like it but I put it into a big cast first to be able to train without destroying it. Changed it into a small cast for only two fingers just before the tournament. They let me compete with that. It healed in about a month (I just can't bend it but that's not necessary).

I'll be there tomorow to support my club but cannot fight myself. If we move up to B class, I will come on Sunday as well.

卒業の後のことはまだわかりません。 相撲は続けたいです。

Which source? And who is the first? Takanoyama?
-
The coach has invited me to train with them. I am quite excited about that. He was not only one of the strongest amateurs ever, he also took a PhD in sports medical science! There is not many guys out there who are both strong and intelectuals ..

I guess I should go there even with my cold to see you all.
