This post is to announce my retirement from TipSpiel. Thanks for the fun, in particular to the other Matta Masters. TipSpiel remains the only Sumo Game where I ever won a Yusho. best wishes, jomojo

Hi Susanoo, yes the starting point of expectation has been long forgotten. However, do not be deterred by this, as your "awkward English" makes for fascinating surrealistic reading, in a similar vein to Jejima's babelfish daily mystic commentry during Benchsumo tournaments. Welcome to this Forum. I'm afraid my own non-existent Japanese is limited to "kachi-koshi" and "mawashi". I was wondering whether you would care to make your second topic in Forum your perspective on the hotly debated "best cheese to eat with Benchsumo" discussion? This likewise surprisingly deep topic is currently being aired on another Sumo Games thread. jomojo

Yes, it looks like there will be a reincarnation. He mentions something about the "Jonidan Recycling Machine" here .... http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/bench...o/message/16988 jomojo

I disagree with all of the above. 1) I think transfers will develop in a really interesting way when we begin to have playerdrones, playerghosts and dronedones in our midst, as these rikishi will all be up for grabs for the second week. 2) East versus West represents the game's ruling elite versus the elite of tomorrow and yesterday. And mirrors the demotions-promotions side of things, ie. if West beats East in the first week you're gonna need to be really good on the West side to move up to east next basho. 3) Doitsuyama provides us all with a great benchmark in playing these games. We are honoured to have him in our midst. 4) There is the "curse of the Yokozuna", which Jejima has referred to. All you need to do is find one good hole each day, and do no worse than Doitsuy-asashoryu in the RAF, and the win is yours. 5) I fear "golden rikishi" jokes. Hole name works fine. 6) Someone else should buy that beer for you, Jejima. Thanks for all your work on this. jomojo

Full match-ups for Day 15: Bout 1 - Hw Zeokage v Gw Nishinoshima Bout 2 - Fw Aderchelseamaru v Ew Sekihiryu Bout 3 - Dw Gusoyama v Cw Golynohana Bout 4 - Bw Jomojo v Aw Jakusotsu Bout 5 - Ge Azumaryu v He Jejima Bout 6 - Ee Gernobono v Fe Oshirokita Bout 7 - Ce Zenjimoto v De Hamanoyama Bout 8 - Ae Doitsuyama v Be Kintamayama Watch Bouts 6 and 8 for the Yusho contest outcome among East side "old-timers" Doitsuyama and Gernobono. Watch Bouts 1 and 2 for who will win the West side competition - all four contestents are in the running for top dog of the sumogame "newbies". Bout 4 - Can Jakusotsu stop jomojo from gaining his eighth win? Bout 5 - Can Jejima pull ahead from Kintamayama with a seventh win and claim the all-important (no demotion) 4th position on the East side?

Incidentally the only one at 6-4 behind 5 at 7-3 and before 3 at 5-5... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, there is a very even leaderboard, providing players in this new game with an exciting race to the finish line. jomojo

Good point. By the way, please could you add an extra point to my Technique Prize score for correctly predicting a Loss for Kotonowaka today. cheers, jomojo

Don't forget the following rules, when you send in your entries for tomorrow's bouts. jomojo Transfer window rules.... When a player send in their entry for day 7, they may also include a list of any rikishi on their team that they wish to ditch (from 0 - 8). Drones will automatically ditch all four of their rikishi. However players should note that they will keep these rikishi for days 7 AND 8. (So will only have a changed team after the Championship Flag part of the Basho has been completed). Along with the Day 7 results, I will give the list of all rikishi back in the 'pool'. These include all the rikishi which were previously not on a team, all rikishi previously belonging to drones, and all the rikishi returned by the players. Then along with their Day 8 entries, ALL players (including those who haven't ditched anyone) should rank the 'pool' players in order of preference - including the rikishi that they have personally ditched. Then along with the day 8 results, Jejima will publish the list of the new teams, to be used from day 9 until the end of the basho.

Well, I think I got six make-koshi in a row in Benchsumo last year, which is quite a feat. Apart from that, I've also had a few faux-pas in Tip Spiel recently. I never amount to much in GISP and ISP normally catches me out somewhere along the line too. I'm curious to know what happened with ODDSUMO too. Any news? jomojo

Ah! Looks like I am the only Western beta-tester to have listed Tochiazuma among the top 30 picks, while Tochiazuma has failed to make it into the top 40 in any of the Eastern beta-testers lists. Was this the stroke of genius or delusion on my part? Doh! jomojo

(Feeling artistic...) how about calling this game: Pick 'n' Mix Sumo jomojo

Hi Jejima. You've put a lot of interesting concepts together for this new game. I'm looking forward to the inaugurating basho for this new daily sumogame. Team transfers is an interesting innnovation and so is predicting losers as well as winners for a daily game. I can see why it makes sense not to have kosho in these smaller divisions as well. Yo bro! To beta-test a Jejima proposed game ... now that opportunity doesn't come along everyday. I'm definitely interested in taking part in this bit of sumogame history. :-D I could see it eventually emerging as a firm favourite ... perhaps even to oneday rival Benchsumo in its popularity among dedicated sumogamers. Reminds me a bit of the "Benchsumo II - The Maegashiras Revenge" proposal from a while back. Although you have placed this idea into a whole new conceptual framework, which will give it quite a different feel. jomojo
-
@ Jejima Should the issue of "only one Yokuzuma" be revisited in your next Benchsumo Administration email? jomojo
-
Oh I see ... you could then pick the Yokozunas and Ozekis, but only once each ... I guess it would help more players make it through to the second week of the game. Could be an interesting innovation. jomojo

Completely agree with you. jomojo

You know, it was just laziness. When I first joined I didn't know you could change daily, so I didn't. Once I realized I could, I think I tried it once and did worse for the few days I did. So, I decided to treat it like a hoshitori game. I either guess well, or I don't (either way, I'm going to lose, so I'll lose lazily). Right now, I usually only go and change for injuries that I hear about. Every kyujo sends me on a Sumo game search. But your post inspired me to go and get Tochinonada out of Tochiazuma's way. Watch now friends as Zuma loses! Thanks for the feedback. I like the variety of ways players choose to play this game. cheers, jomojo

Hey, hi there Mattjila! Also known as the infamous Benchsumo drone. Glad to finally run across you in cyberspace. Would you mind me using this opportunity to put to you a couple of questions which have long made me curious ... What broadly is your strategy for playing Benchsumo? And what turned you in your decision never to change your Benchsumo picks on a daily basis during the basho? cheers, jomojo

Welcome aboard Jakusotsu! Were you aware we also have Zenjimoto as out Team Mascot? I seem to recall at the time this was announced it caused the first ever use of this emoticon on this forum (Blushing...) In honour of you joining our team here's hoping you bring the skills we need to keep the ball in the air and the gorund at our feet. (Football player...) Apologies if that effort was a bit feeble. I'm all punned out today. jomojo

Should I be reading that as "couldn't" ? jomojo
