I scaped the bottom of the barrel on my second basho, but the first wasn't too bad. I'd like to join the Matta Masters if you'll have me :-D Hi Takanorappa, love to have you in Matta Masters. So our team is complete. Let's go out and drink that barrel dry this basho guys and gal! (Licking lips...) jomojo

Hi Fujisan. Yep, those problems with the ISP bouts last basho are enough to drive anyone to go off to the library in search of some peace and calm. Perhaps even contemplate learning to play chess. Or, in your case, enter some more games. At 14 you must be approaching a full house in terms of the English-speaking sumogames. Congratulations on your first appearance on the Superbanzuke this time. jomojo

Okay folks, our team has been formally welcomed on the Deutsche Forum by Rayama, see his post below. I've posted back on that Forum giving the name of our team as "Matta Masters" and the names of our four members: Tominishiki, Kashunowaka, Manekineko, and myself. There is room for one more in our team if anyone else would like to join us. cheers, jomojo @ Jomojo I'm informed over the new team from the english-speaking Sumoforum. You and your teammates are welcome. The results will be posted in german, i hope that you find a translator. For any quetions concerning rules ask me, if i have a problem with the translation, i have my own translator.. Hope that you enjoy the Teamspiel-game and wish you and your team good luck. Rayama

I agree with you Zenjimoto - I find a lot of beauty in the subtlety of Go - "spread your stones too thinly and your domain is not safe, but put your stones too close together and your domain will be too small"; "When is an eye not an eye?" and other such thoughts. And the way it is all so finely balanced - you can win by just one or two extra spaces, so that the "loser" could occupy almost half the board. And the way it is possible, to give up to a nine stone handicap, to allow inexperienced players to compete on an almost level playing field with more skillful players. Although I have my own Go set, I have played few games, not having many friends who have shown an interest when I mention it to them. Zenjimoto, if in the next between-basho lull (assuming you give yourself a break from banzuke-making for the various games) you feel like having a game or two of Go with me online, let me know - although it sounds like you may find I need a sizeable handicap to make it much of a reasonable competition for you. with best wishes, jomojo

Hi Manekineko, you are most welcome to join us. Any more bids for our team name? It sounds as if Matta Masters is the frontrunner there at the moment. jomojo

Thanks for your help Gernobono. :-) That sounds great. And "hi" to Tominishiki and Kashunowaka. I'm looking forward to seeing how our team does in the next basho. I speak very little German, but this is no problem to play the game. Any more want to join us? This is how you do it (basic guidelines). Soon after the Day's Torikumi has been published in Japan, six matches will be selected for that day's Tipspiel. Go to Miki's Sumo Forum at http://www.jp-ohv.de/wbb/wbboard/board.php?boardid=3 and click on Sumo Tip-Spiel. Go to the post which starts "Tag 1" or "Tag 2", etc, depending on the current day of the basho. At the top of this posting will be the six matches chosen for that day. You have to try and pick the winners from each match. Then you have to rank them - giving 5 points to your pick you are most certain about, 4 for the next one, then 3, then 2, then 1, then 0. Then mail your selections by clicking on the "antworten" button at the top of the post. Type in your picks and the points you are giving each one, and remember to type your shikona, so they know its your picks! Then click on the "neuen Beitrag erstellen" button. That's it! Each day you score up to a maximum of 15 points, depending on how many of your picks win their matches. Each day's points are added up. If you have the most points at the end of the basho you win the yusho! To see how many points you scored each day, click on the post which starts "Ergebnisse Tag 1" or "Ergebnisse Tag 2", etc. for the appropriate day. best wishes jomojo

Many thanks Anjoboshi (Nodding yes...) That all made sense - I'm impressed at your early-morning translation skills. cheers, jomojo

I think Tumppi may be referring to the banzuke held on the www.benchsumo.com website - after you log in there is a button you can click on to see the banzuke. Currently this has somehow re-named (in error) the fourth division as Jonidan. jomojo

I'd really like to go on and on about how I put a lot of thought into my entry, used tables and mulled over it forever, but actually, I just went with my favorite rikishi, regardless of anything. It took me exactly 3 minutes, which proves that it is mostly a question of luck. I could have had two of my guys go kyujo, and that would have been the end of it. Luck. Which is great if you can afford it.. You're a modest fellow! Even having favourite rikishi - that to me says something about being able to back the right horses on your day. Having said that, yes, luck is a useful thing to have on your side at times as well. And I suppose it balances up over the broader picture... if Dejima had beaten Tamanoshima on the Final Day, the Benchsumo Juryo Yusho would have been yours! It was that close. So, I would say again, well done. (Sigh...) Enjoy your success. You deserve it. jomojo

wow! you won Fantasy Sumo by a mile! cool team Kintamayama. jomojo

I tend to enter most of the daily games - six at the moment. I managed kachi-kochi in Benchsumo, Tip Spiel, and ODDSUMO, the three games where I'm most likely to pick up Superbanzuke points. :-D Woo-hoo! Although in the three (non-Japanese) pre-basho games I entered, I may have a chance ... Juryo Game, GISP, and Fantasy Sumo. In ISP, I "only" achieved a 9-6 record, which may convert to a slight downward movement on the banzuke. Same thing in Sekitori-toto, where I went mk on the final day. Chaingang, I still haven't figured out at all, this time going out on Day 1 by picking Ama. (Holiday feeling...) Boo-hoo! cheers, jomojo
-
It's been quite a basho for Flohru, winning the tournaments in both Chaingang and Sekitori-Toto and gaining the Juryo Yusho in Benchsumo. A nice way for him to end the year. (Holiday feeling...) jomojo

As banzuke maker of the ISP, I only can hope that Tosanoumi wins :-) Otherwise there will be many kk again in this game and the Banzuke will be a real challenge once more. Are we that good or have some of the choices been too easy? :-) :-) boy, your task of creating a sensible isp banzuke for next basho looks even harder now the results for Day 14 are in! (Just do not get it...) jomojo

Hi guys, I like the website. thanks for all your efforts in bringing the Sumoforum ichimon to life. And the way each person has been assigned a role in the ichimon - a fun innovation. It would also be fun if the Final of the Kintamayama Challenge Cup turns out to be between Leonishiki representing the "Forum Folk" and Sumosmurf representing the "Chilled Out Frosties". May the best smurf win! (Sigh...) all best wishes, jomojo

(Sigh...) Looks like Day 12 will be going the way of Day 3 in terms of being a "lopsided" contest. jomojo

Yep, that's a tough one. Have you seen the ultimate "tough luck" benchsumo loss today? It's in Makuuchi - follow the link below and scroll down to Bout 67. Can you imagine Sertorishiki's frustration levels on that one! :-( jomojo (Oops! ) oh, yeh, I promised a link, right? here we go ... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bench_sumo/message/12169 jomojo

Well I am still neck and neck with かうちゃん(6) after 7 days. (Scratching chin...) jomojo

Thanks fukunoyama for generating this discussion about the place of Ichimons in Benchsumo and stimulating the Sumoforum into creating their own Ichimon. Great work! (Scratching chin...) I'm one of the original fans of ichimon, and I am really happy at the way this concept has rapidly developed since the launch of the first Ichimon website by Chijanofuji back in July. (Sign of approval) best wishes, jomojo

Don't worry, you'll be notified in due time.. you are right in being very afraid..We will be a formidable Ichimon.. Hallo Kintamayama, you old tease. I reckon you are a secret voter for "Ichimon are cool, yaaaay ichimon!" :-S Glad to hear you are well on the way with your recruitment drive for this brand new Ichimon. What fun we will have now there are to be a total of five Ichimon in our beloved Benchsumo! best wishes, jomojo

So is that the ichimon of the eight folk who voted "i dunno, i dont care, i dont understand, ichimon? bench sumo?" (Hugging...) jomojo
