The first basho I watched was his first in Makuuchi. After the tournament I was looking to learn more about sumo, and found the documentary. Halfway through, I realized the connection. My username here is inspired by his oyakata’s naming convention. Not the greatest rikishi, but I did want to see him make his way back to juryo.

He will have 3 basho where he is either 8-7, 7-8, 4-3, or 3-4.
-
Wakatakakage will be Ozeki. Takerufuji will be S1E.

Unlike most in this thread, Takakeisho was my favorite rikishi for much of the six years I’ve been following sumo. He always had an absolutely unique style and actually won matches—unlike my other initial favorite, Chiyomaru. He was one of the few oshi specialists I’ve seen that very clearly had a strategy and had layers of offense. When his fragility became more apparent, I started worrying about his health, which made it harder to get behind him. I can’t say I’ll miss the Takakeisho of the last two years, but I’ll definitely miss the Takakeisho of the four years before.

Anyone know if Arashio is having their morning practice this week? (not sure if they get back to work so quickly after a basho)
-
What’s the policy for retired rikishi without kabu continuing to train at/assist at a stable? And who does the hair of retired rikishi without kabu before their danpatsushiki?
-
I hope Shiden makes Hidenoumi his tsukebito.
-
For the DB gurus… how many rikishi have retired after a juryo yusho?
-
He’s been exposed his entire time in juryo… and (unfortunately) that hasn’t stopped him from winning.

Ozekis and Yokozunas for January 2024 - Feast or Famine?
Kyokufuji replied to Jejima's topic in Polls
This deserves bonus points for boldness. What a year it would be if it ended like this! -
Good news… this site also has a slot simply name “Sumo,” just in case saying “Sumo Sumo” is too tiring. (The single sumo, “Sumo,” also features rikishi wearing E. Honda style face paint… you know, I’ve only been watching sumo for 4.5 years, but I don’t remember any rikishi with face paint…)

A new 83rd kimarite will be born in light of Oho and Hokuseiho’s sumo: wakaranai. Where, even upon replay, nobody is quite sure how they won the bout.

Ends at S or K. Doesn’t get more than 11 wins in any basho.
-
Daieisho (2), Meisei (2), Hiradoumi, Wakamotoharu, Ura, Takanosho

Has at least 3 basho at S, 2 at K, 1 in joi.

Takakeisho in 2023 (used to be the 'youngster's poll....)
Kyokufuji replied to Jejima's topic in Polls
1 yusho (where he will be 2 wins ahead) 2 jun-yusho (one where he will have lost a playoff and one without a playoff where he is tied with somebody else) -
Won’t retire, M6w.

This is exactly how I feel. And simultaneously accepting that he decisively won three matches in a single day. He earned the yusho… I just wish he hadn’t.

Chiyotairyu retires, will leave sumo entirely
Kyokufuji replied to Rocks's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Definitely. Though, I have a feeling many of them don’t last very long, so it might be a chore to manage.
