At the moment, him. You're not helping the red wave sweep the nation. Weak candidate! Can't believe you'd get defeated by the english. The case against RandoMissDaisy is being built with all the proof in this thread (he said he drinks when doing the counting, obvious grounds for annulment of this edition of the championship). Lock him up! Make Oscar Great Again. -
I'm looking up some suspects manually, The Chauffeur takes it for the moment at 40y 8m, still no sansho. He might have something in common with Tamawashi, but it really escapes me I was merely referring to the place of birth of both rikishi and how it is not part of the archipelago of the emperor, thus making them less worthy of praise and prizes and rewards. Those pesky foreigners. Oh, I only really remember Ama (a measly komusubi back then and you got laughed at if you thought he could even win a single yusho in his career) welcoming the new blood to the division the way it should be done. Now they pave the way for them to yusho. Actually, the moment Ama wins the back, the bout is done, he could have gone for the pedestrian okuridashi but I'd give him some leeway for showmanship.

We're not talking about the okuritsuriotoshi, are we? If not, which one exactly, what happened? Of the top of my head, I'd say Aminishiki, who was given a kanto-sho for a measly 8-7 kachi-koshi as a low ranked maegashira at (...looking it up...)39 years and 2 months. One would assume that the sansho was given because he beat a record. Funnily enough, Tamawashi's KK on Hatsu '24 already beats Aminishiki's record yet he wasn't awarded any special prize nor any special attention. Put the blame on Mame, boys. Edit: I'm looking up some suspects manually, The Chauffeur takes it for the moment at 40y 8m, still no sansho. He might have something in common with Tamawashi, but it really escapes me Whiskypedia says about him that "In September 2014 he became the first 40-year-old to be ranked in makuuchi since the six tournament a year system began in 1958", so the answer might even be correct. Onto other things, just to jinx it, we might be looking at a senshuraku showdown for the yusho between the top 2 ranked active rikishi on the banzuke. Last time that happened was some time ago. Maybe the last yusho of he-who-shall-not-be-named, the really bad bad bad oyakata?
-
In that case, he has succeeded. Meanwhile, Kitanowaka has become the first rikishi ever to both win and lose by hansoku in the same tournament. For stupidity's sake. Query Midorifuji and Chiyootori seem to have the most enticing hairs of them all. Can anybody remember any instance of a hansoku not being a hair pull?

My eyesight is very good. It's the best. I have a friend who is an optometrist and he told me I had the best eyesight he had ever seen. 21/20. Terrific. My ears are also very good despite that bullet in what the media calls "an accident". I listen to things very good, believe me. That's why all those people come to my hearings. Randomoussaka, you're still gonna be sued bigly. It's gonna be a huge lawsuit, the biggest you have ever seen. Make Oscar Great Again. -

I only see this graph when looking at Randomoussaka's post (I guess he's part greek, love the greeks, love the food, love the culture, love the sirtaki, but still he doesn't count properly). The counting continues to be rigged. So I was talking to my lawyers on the phone and I took the phone down and I'm looking at the screen and I'm seeing this crazy thing that's going around and coming down and it looks like it's gonna crash and I said "Oh, no, hold on for a second, I wanna see this". I thought it was a space movie or something. I put the phone down, but this spaceship came down and I saw those engines firing and it looked like it was over, it was going to smash and then I saw the fire pour out from the left side and it put it straight and it came down so gently and it wrapped those arms around it and it held it. Just like you hold your baby at night. Randomoussaka's gonna be sued and he's going to pay for it. Make Oscar Great Again. -
He's tired of winning. Assuming Mitakeumi is out (which I didn't see), that would make 2 sekitori going kyujo the same day after a win. That should be quite unusual.

Yeah, I know about those ones, the infamous 30-45 stints in juryo that end in promotions and the sort. The difficult thing that is being achieved by Churanoumi is not only having been a punching bag in lower juryo for some time but to convert that into a positive maegashira career. By the way, Churanoumi's record in juryo is 11 KK, 11 MK and a 7-7-1 record (that would be a makekoshi), yet his W-L records is absolutely dreadful for those numbers. Freaking Tamawashi, with his 2 yushos has a makuuchi losing record (obviously because he's been a regular jo'i punching bag for most of his career). This is why I feel Churanoumi is kinda entering uncharted territory. I have had sort of an epiphany. Maybe I can do some work with these lists of rikishi, as they give you the makuuchi W-L records and the career ones. Maybe I can scan for potential candidates in there, but it'll require some excel tinkering and some double checks. Quick edit for not doubleposting: The list of career-high maegashira with a winning record in makuuchi is unbelievably small (I'm not gonna consider records from before WWII). I have to still account for komusubis, sekiwakes, ozekis and yokozunas, but let me give you a small sample size. List of career-high maegashira with makuuchi career winning records: Shikona Hatsu dohyo Maegashira debut Intai basho Makuuchi Onokatsu 2023.09 (Ms) 2024.09 2 (13-8/21) Oshoma 2021.09 (Ms) 2024.05 4 (28-23/51), 1K Takerufuji 2022.09 2024.03 3 (17-4-15/21), 1Y-1G-1S-1K Churanoumi 2016.03 2023.11 7 (53-43/96) Hakuoho 2023.01 (Ms) 2023.07 2 (11-4-15/15), 1G-1K Gonoyama 2021.03 (Sd) 2023.07 9 (64-62/126), 1K Hokuseiho 2020.03 2023.03 2024.03 6 (41-40-9/80) Atamifuji 2020.11 2022.11 9 (65-61/126), 2K Osunaarashi 2012.01 2013.11 2018.03 17 (112-100-43/207), 3Kin Tokusegawa 2003.07 2010.03 2011.05 6 (48-42/90) Chiyohakuho 1999.03 2008.07 2011.05 6 (41-39-10/79) Wakanoho 2005.03 2007.11 2008.07 5 (39-36/75) Rikio 1988.03 1996.07 1997.09 8 (54-51-15/105) Ryukozan 1983.03 1990.01 1990.03 2 (9-6-15/15) Konuma 1971.07 1976.03 1978.11 2 (10-9-11/18) Sakahoko 1958.07 1963.05 1963.11 4 (24-21-15/45), 1K Hirakagawa 1941.01 1956.01 1959.09 7 (44-41-20/84) Toyonobori 1947.06 1954.03 1954.09 3 (21-19-5/39) Futagoiwa 1940.01 1945.11 1946.11 2 (7-3-13/10) Toyonishiki 1938.01 1944.05 1945.11 2 (6-4/10) Mutsunosato 1938.05 (Ms) 1941.01 1948.10 13 (72-70-26/142) Matsunosato 1926.01 1939.05 1945.06 13 (85-81-11/163), 1Kin Lots of sudden departures in there, unsurprisingly. A big caveat is that some of those guys have losing records for banzuke purposes, as kyujo bouts counts as losses except for kosho times and the covid crap. Chiyohakuho has a juryo losing record but his makuuchi-winning record would be a losing one for banzuke purposes, as his kyujo "losses" add up to give him a MU losing record, so he's not quite achieving the Churanoumi condition. I'll try to find out more, but that's for another day.

I just noticed a funny stat about Churanoumi. He has an all-time juryo losing record (and reasonably substantial, I might add, more than one extra loss per basho) but a makuuchi winning one (and reasonably substantial as well, more than one extra win per basho). In Makuuchi 53-43/96 (7 basho) As Maegashira 53-43/96 (7 basho) In Juryo 159-185-1/343 (23 basho) I suppose this might correct itself given enough time and enough clashes in the jo'i for him, but it'd be funny if his career score ended up this way. Is there any way to make a query in the database to see if this has happened in the past?

I've seen tectonic plates move faster than Mitoryu's last minute sidestep against Hakuyozan and both men's subsequent reactions. Love me some tectonic clashes.

Sumo Gaming World Championship Daily Updates
Oskanohana replied to Randomitsuki's topic in Sumo Games
Everybody knows that this edition of the championship is rigged. I have the best picks (always have). There is some people whose graphs start way higher without any reason and they put me in the beginning there in the middle of all the people (but I love the people). They tried to get rid of me, but I will always come back. My guy Asanoyama (the only true champion) will be back in no time, that's a big reason why the standings don't look so good. I love the pandas, they're a beautiful bear, truly beautiful, though they always need help with reproduction, which I don't have any problems with, but they're animals that are not fit to be title holders, they would lose the title if they were offered a bamboo stick. What's with bamboo and pandas, why don't they eat anything else? I prefer the polar bears, I love them in commercials. There's going to be a big wave, in my favor. Again, germans are counting the points, if you think of a working and organized country, that's the last country you'd think of. They don't have the best people counting the points. They're coming with vans filled with points for my rivals, but I'm still going to win, because I'm a winner, I never get tired of winning. I'm going now to Mar-a-lago to play a couple holes with my friend Elon and I expect the standings to change drastically in the next days or I'm going to sue everybody, starting with that Randomusky guy. Make Oscar Great Again. -

Promotion/Demotion and Yūshō Discussion Aki 2024
Oskanohana replied to Reonito's topic in Honbasho Talk
In spain, we use the suffix -ito as diminutive for words or names. Juanito, Miguelito, etc. So imagine how funny the given names of the japanese emperors sounds to us. Little Hiro, Little Aki, Little Naru. To not derail completely the topic, I don't expect any leniency towards Asanoyama. He hasn't been healthy to even stay in the jo'i, nor of course to have made a real comeback á la Terunofuji. -
Promotion/Demotion and Yūshō Discussion Aki 2024
Oskanohana replied to Reonito's topic in Honbasho Talk
I came to the exact same result, except I'm keeping Kinbozan in makuuchi instead of Kitanowaka, swapping the J1's and also swapping Onosho-Aonishiki on your spots (either option, yours and mine, looks bad to me). I'm ranking Aonishiki ahead of Tochitaikai, I don't know exactly why. Nabatame's run of: J14w 4-11 ---- Ms4e 4-3 ----- J14e is wacky, but probably nothing unseen these days. My bet for the top 10 in makushita in no particular order (hopefully I don't forget anybody) is Asanoyama, Aoiyama, Kiryuko (put in these 3 spots whatever nonsense they're left with after they fill juryo), Hatsuyama, Kamito, Kaisho, Kotokuzan, Obara, Miyagi and Asahakuryu. A little bit of everything in this group. -
It was shaping up as a decent lead for me, but looks like both mediocre leaders will end up picking Kawazoe next time. Bollocks.

Some awful acting in juryo: Tsurugisho and Chiyoshoma are so incompetent that they did the rehearsal for his "fight" in front of everyone. It was called a matta and they did the same shit anyway. Kokonoe must have given his pupil some pointers on how to call attention to themselves when trying shady stuff. The Tamashoho-Daishoho affair also looked staged. Way too much compliance from the usually lively Tamashoho. I blame @Jakusotsu for reminding this crap exists with his Ryuden-Hokutofuji call (not really, I had been following one offender very closely, but he seems to have retired). Congratulations to Daiki Nakamura II. Pity we won't probably see the Daiki Nakamura clash ever. The NSK should respect the Bolzano theorem even though Hokutofuji's function has showed some discontinuity.

Promotion/Demotion and Yūshō Discussion Aki 2024
Oskanohana replied to Reonito's topic in Honbasho Talk
Shimanoumi's sumo I don't mind. It's very one-dimensional in that he does his style, tries to get his position and does nothing too fancy. Hakuyozan's, despite his allergies to cloth (which I despise, they should vaccinate the rikishi against that), I can put up with more or less, his main problem is what he does after he wins and his general demeanor, looks like an unchecked bully. Tohakuryu...I think he has the style I truly hate the most of everyone I've seen (not even Kimurayama or Takakeisho). He's obviously a "master" (juryo level master, mind you) of trickiness and very aware of the tempo of the bout and able to switch gears on a dime, but when he losses, he does it badly and I enjoy it extraordinarily, but not enough for me to want to keep him around. Every forward-moving win from Tohakuryu is set up because he pulls 95% of the time, and his rival is expecting that and sometimes they don't protect themselves properly, so even his good looking wins(which are scarce) are tainted. Still, happy to see I'm not alone in my tastes in sumo. On behalf of those, Chiyosakae getting demoted, I'm happy. @itchyknee Good job, mate, Really appreciate it. Nice way to find a workaround. -
Incompetence, oh, you harsh mistress. Hokutofuji's win looked pyrrhic to me anyway. And his body was looking already on the brink of breaking these past tournaments. As far as Ryuden, he has the body, the strength, the skills on the belt and is an absolute calamity more often than not. Still, maybe there was something fishy there that I attributed to sheer incompetence. Ryuden is the most frustrating rikishi for me. I want to root for him, but he has burnt me with disappointment enough times already.
