terrible luck. Just is one win away from Kachi Koshi. Guess the dream will be 5 Sekiwake instead of 6.
-
Asanoyama, Ichinojo, Tochinoshin, and Tokushoryu right? Guessing he missed Toku, which I'm surprised an editor didn't catch.

Kiribayama is the closest, right now needing 13 wins by the time May is over with any he can get now easing pressure for May. If he wins out it wouldn't be enough anyway at just 8-7 first basho. We will see where Hoshoryu is at. If all goes well he might be the emergency Ozeki that has to be hustled up. For a full Ozeki run though he probs needs to win out here and either go on a monster run in May or get double digits and go for it in July. Wakatakakage is not in a good spot for a potential run. Dude always starts poorly before going on a run to get Kachi-Koshi. Unjtil he gets an early run (ala his Yusho tournament) he will probably not be close. Daieisho is at 20 wins now. I don't know how much they will consider as he started at M1, but he should be a Sekiwake right now. Kotonowaka and Wakamotoharu could be outsiders for a run, but we have to see.

While I feel Miyagino has the better cast of wrestlers, this is still a huge get an a rivalry starter with the history between Ochiai and Nakamura. That and both being Oyakata positioned for success in the NHK makes it all the more interesting

Got to edge us like that smh
-
1. This probs means he's done. I guess there's no reason to enforce Twitter rules for Banzuke-Gai 2. Now's your chance to go pro! Become the next Kagamio and stay in the Gai for almost 2 years!
-
Someone really wants him to make the push for Ozeki lmao.
-
might be better next time around when Kiribayama is on a full Ozeki run (if he gets the 9 or so wins he is expecting)
-
Kiribayama come on down!
-
even so, Kawazoe is probs getting 5 or 6 wins and with that promotion.
-
he's not dead meat yet, but I guess this is expected as he starts hitting these walls.
-
He's never been the most spectacular Rikishi. Think he just went on a host streak in his first Juryo tournament and pressure/lack in fire has gotten to him a bit.

14 Year Old Becomes US Sumo Champion
Chartorenji replied to Gaijingai's topic in Amasumo Discussions
Already pretty big for a 14 year old. Probs needs more amateur experience before some Ozumo stable ever comes calling, and a trip to Japan to compete is a good start. Would be a huge achievement for mainland American Sumo if it happens. -
Shikihide
-
Maybe he needed to stay in Sumo to get the citizenship? Not sure how it works but that's my best guess.
-
I've heard he is Brazilian, Italian, French, Japanese, and now Jewish. We need a 23 and Me stat.
-
this the one place where you see more debate on names and their origins versus actual sumo.
-
It would need to be someone consistent in the Sekitori, prefer Makuuchi tbh. Personally would go with Hiradoumi but Tobizaru is a good choice.
-
Will this finally be the big one for Kazuto? 2 playoff losses if I remember right.
-
not the best start there Taka.
-
That's probably it for Yoshinofuji. A low ringer, most known for getting concussions I think twice (September of 21 and I think another) falling off the dohyo. Kotofuno and Michihaya are both short of 1 year as a pro and might be retiring here due to how new they are. Michihaya is a surprise, had him ranked 7th out of the 35 recruits in the big May debut class (though tbf I overrated Noguchi and the worse Hayashi twin)

If I had a nickel for an Isegahama Rikishi going through Diabetes I'd have 2 nickels. (Terutsuyoshi) It isn't a lot, but it's weird it's happened twice.
-
Ochiai's buildup didn't last this long though. Nakamura might announce on the dobyo.
-
"Last year, Elon Musk challenged Vladimir Putin in singles combat for Ukraine." Can he send a champion or something? Think Terunofuji can teach the man a lesson.

Am curious if this is the basho Hokuseiho is finally exposed. Feels like everyone has gone gloom on him but he keeps getting kachi-koshi's. Also Hakuho's first Makuuchi Rikishi (outside of a couple more months of Ishiura up there.) Ochiai and Atamifuji both feel more complete in terms of there sumo though. Atami probs bounces back, as the recent Make-Koshi's and the Hikarifuji bullying scandal are def stopping his confidence. After that it's a bit of a crapshoot on who really makes it super big. Mukainakano probs will be Makuuchi stalwart due to his already present skills, and Kototebakari and Kazuto have the potential.
