John Gunning Re: The Ozeki Duo (sorry, Takakeisho)
Inside Sport Japan replied to Gaijingai's topic in Honbasho Talk
"Takakeisho showed enough in the recent Yokozuna Deliberation Council open practice to suggest he can get the eight wins needed to retain his ozeki rank, but the three-time champion could also make a title run if he can work his way back to match fitness and avoid soft losses in the first week." -
That's the claim in the article but actually it's not correct. We have photos of him wearing the same green one and doing shiko at his stable as recently as 2006, and some here say they saw him wearing it there in the following years.

INSIDE SUMO - Sumo still failing to provide adequate medical care for wrestlers -
Sumo has been removed from the World Games (Tier 2 Olympics) because of incidents involving wrestlers from Ukraine and Egypt - including former Maegashira Osunarashi - in Alabama last year.

Sumo removed from World Games
Inside Sport Japan replied to Inside Sport Japan's topic in Amasumo Discussions
Flag football is one of the world's fastest growing sports in all metrics and the NFL has started to put its weight behind it in a big way recently. It's on course for inclusion in the Olympics in the not too distant future so whatever the actual reasons for both it and sumo being removed from the World Games, they are unlikely to include popularity -

We're not sure if this has been mentioned before but Ulaanbaatar has been the spelling of Mongolia's capital in English for quite a few years. Ulan-Bator is no longer used (or at least shouldn't be according to several style guides)

NHK live sumo not bringing back color commentators post-Covid
Inside Sport Japan posted a topic in Ozumo Discussions
We're hearing that despite Covid protocols being removed NHK does not (for budgetary reasons) intend to bring color commentators back to the live English sumo broadcasts. It will continue with the four play-by-play men (Murray, Hiro, Ross, and Raja) alone in the booth -

When they opened it up to the public it was. When it's just media, YDC, and kankesha, it's held in the sumo school.

Not the first time that's happened. Air guns and threats to kill other rikishi were involved in at least one other scandal that never came to light fully.

Amateur yokozuna gives up sumo to pursue NFL dream

He didn’t make any such statement that we are aware of. The announcement about today’s press release came to us through the usual channels. Media in many sports normally get advance notice of press conferences, and releases to give them time to have people present, prep the stories etc. Generally we don’t announce them in advance unless it’s for something significant. The problem seems to be certain people on social media outlets who don’t understand how all that works and are incorrectly accusing Nakamura of generating drama.

No drama from him. All external - and yes, we're as much to blame as anyone. Different kanji.
