The main reason for these errors lies in my method for updating the ranking from the previous one. In the past time I have continued by adding the results of the just-finished basho to the data of the old ranking for all players and subtracting those of the corresponding basho from the previous year. These additions and subtractions were done using a spreadsheet, but the number of participations was corrected by counting forward or backward. And wherever an old man's head is supposed to help, errors keep cropping up, which can even drag on from basho to basho. Now I have created a table with all the results of the last 6 bashos, each sorted alphabetically by player name, where after each basho I only have to cross out the oldest basho and add the youngest.
