This is to bump up this game since Oshirokita has prepared his site for entries but I have not seen a topic in this sumo games forum to let everyone know. If for some reason, this game is not running, please let us know - I'm sure someone could be found to take over the administration if necessary.

Well, it's a bit late but I should get off my lazy behind and trumpet the virtues of my poor neglected adoptees. For the first time ever, I will be selecting both of them in sumogames. Both are ranked in the Makushita division (for the first time) and so in Randomitsuki's Makushita Game, I have selected both. Nishikaze was my first adpotee. My wife's uncle knows his father and I used to receive the banzuke from Japan each basho with the Oguruma stamp on it. I we kept in touch better, I'd probably still be able to build my collection of banzuke but life gets busy ... still, I always watch for him to see how he does and he's done fairly well lately (for himself). He's ranked Ms 33e and he worked his way up to Ms 26w lst basho only to fall back with a 3-4 record after 2 consecutive 4-3s. He's never made it to sekitori rank but he has had a couple of matches with sekitori (lost both). He's 28, soon 29, I don't expect him to become sekitori but he's a good solid career Makushita with rare brief stumbles to Sandanme. Sasaki, on the other hand, had convinced me he was a career Sandanme rikishi who might sometimes need a visit to Jonidan when injured. He has had a good year and after falling to 3-4 from Sd 29 in Nagoya, he rebounded with a strong 6-1 in Aki to achieve his first promotion to Makushita. He is still young at 19 years old so perhaps this is only the beginning for him. He had been trapped in Sandanme for a long time though - I can't believe how young he still is! Did he get start at age 15? Itachi

For any game, the best place to go in my opinion is the sumo information site www.scgroup.com/sumo I usually just google for sumo information and find it that way but you could bookmark it and then you don't have to remember the site or search it out each time. From the main page, go to customizable results and search page and then select the division you want and cut and paste into excel or print - whichever is most useful for you. I made myself some nice data sheets by combining this information (last three basho records) with Doitsuyama's bio-stats banzuke (includes height, wieght, and birthdate) to produce a fine cheat sheet I can print out and study anywhere to prepare for all the games.

I thought Miyabiyama performed quite well around the time he was losing his father. Perhaps he is the sort of fellow who buries himself in his work to overcome misery. He may overcome his lack of conditioning and have a decent tournament with the broken relationship factor! I liked Miyabiyama as he was rising quickly to jo-i but then when I saw how immature and irresponsible he was once he got to Ozeki I lost interest in him. Over the past couple of years he has built himself up again and I've admired him for fighting back to be mentioned for re-promotion (even if he didn't manage it). I hope he battles through this and one day returns to the Ozeki rank even if he does end up being a bit of a weak sister up there. Has anyone else returned to Ozeki after so long away from the rank?

Mukashi 1 Kamakura 2 Hananosato 3 Tokusegawa 4 Nionoumi 5 Tokitairyu 6 Tsuchihashi 7 Shima 8 Ikehara 9 Kitazono 10 Tochinoshin 11 Daishoyu 12 Mouri 13 Akai 14 Takedani 15 Takaazuma Mukashi selects the rikishi from each group who had the best result last basho. If there is a tie, Mukashi looks at the basho before last and so on. Mukashi tends to come close to kachikoshi without achieving it. Kyujo rikishi default replacements will come from Mukashi's list. I won't leave anyone with a kyujo rikishi unless they request it but you may select your own replacement if they have not had a bout yet. Doitsuyama's banzuke post in the main forum is another good resource since it lists birthdates, height, and weight of rikishi. Good luck with your picks! Itachi

Sandanme Game Banzuke Kyushu 2006 East Yokozuna 1 Mirai YE (15-0) East Komusubi 1 Doitsuyama M3E (10-5) West Komusubi 1 Itachi M1E (9-6) East Komusubi 2 Genzai M1W (9-6) West East Maegashira 1 Fay M2W (9-6 West Maegashira 1 Sekihiryu M2E (8-7) East Maegashira 2 Tamanaogijima M3W (8-7) West Maegashira 2 Torideyama M4E (8-7) East Maegashira 3 Yubiquitoyama M8E (9-6) West Maegashira 3 Profomisakari M5E (8-7) East Maegashira 4 Aderechelseamaru M6E (8-7) West Maegashira 4 Kotononami M8W (8-7) East Maegashira 5 Mukashi M4W (7-8) West Maegashira 5 Imumaru M5W (7-8) East Maegashira 6 Oshirokita M6W (7-8) West Maegashira 6 Holleshoryu M7E (7-8) East Maegashira 7 Wolfgangho M7W (6-9) West Maegashira 7 Randomitsuki Mae (11-4) Here's the new Banzuke for this game. Most of you joined last basho and I placed you on the banzuke in order of your entry. Torideyama was first since he had attempted to send me an entry for the first tournament - thus he should've been on the first banzuke as a kosho. Randomitsuki had a fine tournament but he was a couple of days too late so he enters this tournament from Maezumo.I've only received 3 entries so far and one is mine. www.scgroup.com/sumo has updated their database today so there is a convenient resource there for making selections. I will be posting Mukashi's entry soon as a result.Itachi

Wow, you stumped me and I'm a pretty big Slayer fan ... well, I don't get much listening time since the babies started arriving 5 years ago so maybe it's not that hard to stump me anymore! On the subject of metal, it's Halloween time and I recently found my long lost supply of King Diamond tapes! Fun stuff for this season.

Welcome fellow lower division fans! For those of you who play the Makushita Game, this will be easy. Just pick one rikishi from each of the 15 sections within Sandanme. The more successful your riksihi, the better you will do. The sections are divided as follows; section 1: Sd1e-Sd5w section 2: Sd6e - Sd10w, and so on for the first half of the division. (groups of 10 rikishi) The lower half of Sandname is divided into sections twice as big. Section 11: Sd 51e - Sd60w, etc. (groups of 20 rikishi) You will select 15 rikishi and each can earn 10 points (well, 9 points + yusho equivalent bonus) so it is relatively easy to convert your score into a record out of 15. Last tournament I posted the details of the standings daily (will I have time to do that this basho?). Your 15 rikishi will accumulate points for each win, for making kk, for having the best (or equivalent) record in their section of Sandanme, and for having a yusho (some points for jun-yusho) equivalent record. These scores are scaled so that the best attainable score receives a 15-0 record. Send your 15 selections to nmatsuo@shaw.ca p.s. I will need to install a new o/s in the next few days due to forgotten admin pw and other difficulties so do not panic if there is no swift reply! I should have the problem resolved by the weekend. Look to last tounament's Sandanme Game Alpha Test thread to see how the game functioned in its initial tryout. I look forward to receiving your entries. Itachi

I know better than to do this, but I am a glutton for punishment. I'm not forecasting any of these, but I would not be particularly surprised if any of them went intai in the next two bashos: Tamakasuga ... could happen soon. Buyuzan (health) ... wouldn't be surprised Tosanoumi ... not yet. Tochinohana .... not yet Kobo .... in a few basho Kaiho .... in a few basho Hokutoiwa ... not yet Kyukoshuzan ... not yet Wakanosato (health) ... I hope not yet.

As for other Sd Game topics, Fay was the only rikishi to select the yusho winner, Wakamifuji (apart form Mirai, of course). This is why she finished 3rd overall despite only averaging 8 wins. Yubiquitoyama had the most kk rikishi with 11. Genzai, Doitsuyama, and I managed 10. (Randomistuki had 13!!) Doitsuyama had 6 group winners (as did Randomitsuki) which was 2 better than anyone else competing. For the negative side, Wolfgangho's best rikishi only had 5 wins so he didn't even get jun-yusho points. As for most average rikishi, it should be no surprise to Makushita Game players that I, Itachi, was among the leaders but Profomisakari and Yubiquitoyama had as many popular picks as I with 9. Sekihiryu had the most unique team with none of Genzai's picks while Fay was close behind with only 1 (Kainowaka). I am really grateful that so many of you took the time to play this game. Also, I see that many of you are reading my daily updates which encourages me to make the effort to wake up early and prepare them. I hope you enjoyed exploring the Sandanme division while deciding on your selections and I hope that your involvement in this game made the daily results a little more meaningful to you. As for me, I enjoy preparing to do battle with the rest of you by trying to find rikishi who can succeed at their current rank. Games such as this one help me focus and organize my analysis of the sung and unsung heroes of these less noticed ranks. If you have any comments or criticisms feel free to share them with me either through this forum or by PM. Thank you particpants and spectators, Itachi

Yes, the secret is out. Randomitsuki was the Maezumo player. He had set up a complicated system to select his picks but he was unable to complete his selections before the tournament deadline so he was relegated to maezumo. I do not believe he gained any advantage from seeing results so I see him as the most competitve player among us. Perhaps his system will not perform so well in November but clearly he is a strong opponent in any sumo game.

One point for each win, kk, and group winner. If you have the yusho winner you get 15/15 for your yusho score. If you have a rikishi who lost a playoff to the yusho winner, you get 10/15.If you have one of the jun-yusho winners, you get 5/15.The raw scores are scaled just enough so Mirai's score is 14.5 (rounds to 15).This last bit is the only change form last basho.Unfortunately, we don't good balance with half of us getting kk and half mk but maybe we're just too good. Now to solve the banzuke problem ...Thanks for playing!ItachiOh, and the Maezumo entry finished 71-34 with 13kk, 6 group winners, a jun-yusho winner, a win/loss score of 10.14 and a final score of 11.

Putting in the kk factor has little effect but I think including the number of group winners will. Otherwise, we have very little spread between the top and bottom records. 9 wins to 7 wins. With the other scoring factors, we had more of a spread last time. It's better for banzuke making I would think.Doitsuyama has the lead but just barely! Yubiquitoyama is very close and actually comes out ahead if I factor in the number of kk by 9.39 to 9.34. Also, Doitsuyama has 6 bouts left while Yubi-zeki has only 5.Wolfgangho looks certain to finish mk with the simple win-loss scoring. He has 6 bouts remaining and would finish 52-53 even winning them all.Oshirokita and Holleshoryu each have 5 bouts left and need to win all five to finish 53-52.I'm very curious to see how many group leaders everyone has. I'll post that information once I've had time to work it out.Itachi

I had forgotten to change the title in the table. The Maezumo entry is 64-30 with 13 kk rikishi and projected score of 10.21. 13 kk rikishi is really impressive. We shall see if the new player can repeat that feat in November. The scores are really centred at 8-7 with only two 9 win scores, a 7, and two 6s. The final adjustments should cause a bit more of a spread.

I look forward to receiving your entry for Kyushu! The maezumo player is 55-20 with 13 kk and projected score of 11.00All but two of us human players are projected to reach kachikoshi. The drone Mukashi is close but Holleshoryu and Wolfgangho appear to be having a rough tournament.Doitsuyama, the well prepared, continues to lead but not by much.Itachi

I almost forgot our maezumo mystery player. They are still incredible, now 50-17 with 12 kk leaning rikishi (more wins than losses). Their projected score is 11.19 which would beat us all (except Mirai). Will they be as dangerous in Kyushu? Will they get their entry in on time? Itachi

Here are some of the rikishi Mirai appears to have picked. Tsuchihashi Teno Shinyu Sasaki Hokkairyu Daishoki Amuru These are the ones no one else selected! Sasaki is one of my adopted rikishi. It seems like he's been stuck in Sandanme forever but he's only 19. He has looked good lately and perhaps he is going to take a run at Makushita at last. Amuru, being a foreigner, must've been on most of our watch lists when he started but no one liked him enough to select him this time and he's doing well. Another surprise is that most of these unexpected group leaders are in the top half of the division where there are fewer rikishi in each group. We were more successful at finding the best rikishi in the larger groups of relative unknowns in the lower half of the division. Itachi

I solved (with help from Asashosakari) the remaining problems with formatting the table so tables like this will be much easier to generate now.I am displaying the kk column for sake of interest but I haven't included it in the score because it just drags most of our scores down even further. Perhaps it would be better to reserve kk, group winner, and yusho winner scores for awarding sansho.Last time, the scores were scaled at the end so that Mirai's score was 15-0 (after all it is impossible to do any better than Mirai). I tested this in the current game and only one player was left below kk. I like everyone to succeed and have fun but if everyone makes kk every tournament then it isn't much of a contest. What would a banzuke look like? Well, we'll see what it looks like at the end of the tournament. Maybe only the best competitors are playing this game so we should all get kk!Itachi
