Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted November 23, 2006 Takamifuji had been on the brink to juryo in Haru this year as he was 3-2 at Ms1w, but finished 3-4, and Ms2e Masatsukasa was promoted with a 4-3. Two more 3-4 and he was back to Ms13 before turning it around with a 5-2 and this basho he's 5-1 already with a win against fellow Ms6 Raiko, the first in five tries. Kadomoto finished the basho with two wins to keep his promotion hopes up at 4-3, and he sent J14e Mokonami into deep trouble at 5-7. Koryu lost in juryo to Hokutoiwa, but still is kachi-koshi at 4-3 and ahead of Kadomoto in the promotion line. Still, a win would have gotten him closer to a possible promotion, as Bushuyama still can overtake him. Young Fukuoka is 5-1, beating Chiyotenzan with okuridashi. The much older Tochitenko also is 5-1, getting back to mid makushita. Chinese Sokokurai finally got the fourth win after a 3-0 start and will be back in makushita next basho. Mongolian Hoshikari beat 19 years old Nionoumi and at 5-1 also is sure to return to makushita, while Nionoumi has another chance to get a makushita debut. Georgian Tochinoshin is 5-1, as is 19 years old Araumi who debuted one year earlier. 2006 entrant Rendaiyama lost to young Sonoda from Musashigawa-beya. Sonoda actually is the only Heisei-born rikishi in Sandanme or higher, and is sure to stay with the 4-2 now. The Kaio-name-alike Koga is sure to return to sandanme as he is 5-1 now in high jonidan. Masunoyama is 5-1 with a win and on his way to a possible second 6-1 since his Ozumo debut last basho. -- Doitsuyama Jonokuchi Jk36w Ikinoshima (4-2) oshidashi Jk31e Ishihara (3-3) Jk27w Daishiryu Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted November 23, 2006 Hakuba fights Kotokuni tomorrow for the makushita yusho, leaving no possibility for a multi-rikishi 6-1 playoff. Hakuba is the clear favorite to win his first makushita yusho as he isn't only ranked much higher than Kotokuni, but also won all three past meetings, 2003.01 (his makushita debut) with shitatenage, 2005.11 with sukuinage and 2006.01 with yorikiri. And I don't know for whom to cross my fingers, cause I like them both. Both were already very good at Aki basho and Kotokuni was trained quite hard by Kotomitsuki in September and nearly broke a hole in the wall when I was there. He already was ranked on Ms 16, so perhaps he has a chance against Hakuba but no matter who is the lucky or better one, I will be happy (Cheers...) Ganbareeeeeeeeee! Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted November 23, 2006 Kadomoto finished the basho with two wins to keep his promotion hopes up at 4-3, and he sent J14e Mokonami into deep trouble at 5-7. The bottom of juryo looks like there could easily be 4 demotees altogether (including Shuzan's intai) if not even more so it is very possible that Kadomoto gets promoted even if Wakanoho wins. If Kadomoto gets promoted and Goeido stays in juryo (as he should), then three Sakaigawa-rikishi compete in juryo in Hatsu basho and all of them young. Don't know why Hochiyama is losing so much by slapdowns now and even isamiashi etc. Kadomoto is essential factor in Goeido's progress too. Goeido's major problem is his weakness against oshi-attacks. Kadomoto has heavy attack and will continue to be a factor in refining Goeido. In any case Kadomoto is physically big and strong and should be very interesting juryo debutant if he makes the promotion. Koryu is interesting debutant too. Sluggish but looks powerful. He's even a former Makushita 3 (in Hatsu 2005, 1-6), but he has been quite streaky since then...7 kachi-koshi in 11 basho including the current one, but two of the MK were 1-6 again. I think his "true" level is probably around Ms15-20, so Hakuba would have to be considered the favorite though not an overwhelming one, but then there's the head-to-head record that Doitsuyama mentioned... I just hope neither guy henkas...that's been pretty much the only blessing in losing the Makushita webstream, not seeing any more Makushita yushos being decided by henka. (Cheers...) Jonosuke 28 Posted November 27, 2006 The bottom of juryo looks like there could easily be 4 demotees altogether (including Shuzan's intai) if not even more so it is very possible that Kadomoto gets promoted even if Wakanoho wins. So how about making it a big party and having six going up. Ms E1 Wakanoho (4-3) Ms E2 Hakuba (7-0) Ms E3 Koryu (4-3) Ms W3 Kadomoto (4-3) Ms E4 Shiraishi (4-3) Ms W4 Bushuyama (5-2) Shiraishi may be a bit of stretch but since Daimanazuru is a borderline case and regardless of him going down, there is one spot open as you mentioned for Shoe-zan. But if he goes down then Shiraishi can squeeze in. Juryo W14 Tamaasuka (7-8) Juryo E14 Mokonami (5-10) Juryo W13 Hokutoiwa (5-10) Juryo E12 Kambayashi (4-11) Juryo W8 Daimanazuru (4-11) We definitely need more new blood going up in Juryo and create some havocs as the air has been getting stale lately with many ex-Makuuchi guys hovering and putting their anchor there.
