Ise shrine 1 day tournament

Recommended Posts

Hakuhou won the Makuuchi tournament today at the Ise Shrine for the third consecutive year.

"All kinds of stuff happened this last year. I really took the pre-Harubasho keiko seriously this time, so I thought it would be ridiculous if I didn't get my confidence back.. '

April fools?

Thanks guys - there'll be more when I can sort them out.

Nishi - that's a great compliment from the photo master!

Fay, your boy looked kind of overwhelmed by it all. I only took that one photo because he really wasn't happy with all the attention.

Yes he doesn't look too happy, seems he is only used to the 1243 pictures I always take of him as Nishi supects :-S .

Well he will get accustomed to this until he'll be promoted to ;-)

He is intai as soon as he announced it as far as the hon-basho bouts are concerned. The Haru basho banzuke is still active until the next one is released and still is a Juryo. He can contiune on his off-basho duty until the oyakata hands in the retirement papers to the Kyokai and they accept it

I believe the last bit has not taken place so he can continue to peform as if he is a Juryo until such time as the gig is up.

i kinda realized that when i saw Hokutoiwa in the pics too. Same thing applies to him right? ... he is a juryo rikishi untill the new banzuke is released.

i just thought intai was treated differently.

thanks for the answer ..

Yes, it is. Ichinoya explicitly names him on his blog from two days ago. He says Minanosato has been doing it on jungyo for a while now, and will be ready for May when the real thing rolls in. He also mentions the fact that Ouga is taking part in the current jungyo, but Minanosato is twirling.

But, a minor problem has arisen. The Hawaii Jungyo is scheduled for June. All visa applications were handed in in February. Ouga was slated to go as the yumitorikishi. Ouga suddenly announced his retirement, so he won't be going and there is no time to start a new procedure. The number of tsukebito assigned to the rikishi for foreign jungyos is small as it is, and even the Yokozuna gets only 2. So, the twirler in Hawaii will most probably be Hananosato , who will be practicing in earnest.

Ouga's danpatsushiki is planned for after Hatsu, no date set yet.

As Kinta says, it's Minanosato. There are a couple of photos of him near the end of the bonanza.

I'm a little surprised by this. Isn't Minanosato Japanese? Japanese citizens usually don't need Visas to enter the US for either business or tourism as long as the stay is less than 90 days.

I presume they're classified as temporary workers rather than businesspersons, and thus need Class O visas (or possibly P-1):

O-1 classification applies to persons who have extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, or extraordinary achievements in the motion picture and television field;

O-2 classification applies to persons accompanying an O-1 alien to assist in an artistic or athletic performance for a specific event or performance;

P-1 classification applies to individual or team athletes, or members of an entertainment group that are internationally recognized;

Agreed. B1/B2 visas (for business or pleasure) do not encompass going for remunerative work or professional performance, so the visa waiver program does not apply in such a situation. Regarding the proper visa type, I imagine the Yokozuna and Ozeki would get O1 and the other rikishi would get P1 visas. I would think the Kyokai could expedite the addition of one more wrestler to relieve poor Hananosato (if necessary), but getting O1 and P1 visas are pretty paper-intensive processes...
