Jinx

(In a bad mood...)

I am in a bad mood because my nap was of bad quality and because my soup had been consumed from the refridgerator while I was having a bad quality nap. When I am in a bad mood, I think dark thoughts of antipathy towards the concept of jinx in non-individual level. This means that what irritates me is the very often brought up jinx against some rikishi or cyber rikishi or streaks etc.

1. It is illogical to "jinx" someone famous (like a rikishi is famous amongst sumo followers) as there are ALWAYS anti-jinxes going on and these jinxes by other people would then burden a non-jinxing person too. Explanation: If a rikishi F is jinxed by some commentary in some sumo game post, there are always people who never thought of jinxing that rikishi F and so jinxing people's jinx would cast a negative shadow on innocent non-jinxing persons' hopes/wishes (in case they would hope for a winning streak to continue for example). "KaioU has never lost to Toki and will never lose to him in honbasho as Toki simply doesn't have the tools to beat him" would have been every jinxer's climax in hindsight and the fact that someone states such a phrase prior to the very unlikely event of Toki beating KaioU, promotes jinxing concept and that is bad. Jinxing for events that take place in front of many many viewers is of no relevance unless some people have more jinxing power than others (many do believe that they do....like 96% of all people think their luck is worse than average luck and 99% of men think they are better than average drivers of car, have you heard of someone claiming to be a bad lover? Indeed..but then it is very socially acceptable to claim one is the worst singer in the universe "I can't sing at all" say even people who sing very well..)

2. Jinxing is overflowing. Everything can be jinxed. Jinxing there, jinxing here, jinxing everywhere. Every streak in the world that has come to abrupt end has been jinxed by jinxers. Jinxing is especially prevalent in sumo game comments. Self-jinxing is popular too and it is routinely used.

3. Jinxing is not a "serious" act and not taken seriously nor expressed seriously (usually...jinxers who believe in the true power of jinxing are different matter..) but since it is such a light jokish way, it is a VERY old joke kind of habit and all jinxing should be banned.

4. I don't even know what is the Finnish equivalent term for "jinx" and that annoys me even more than the event of delicious soup having been consumed during my bad nap. Finns sometimes say "

You mean like I did in my bench sumo match-

"The only certainty here is Asashoryu beating Kyokushuzan."

Hmmm probably not a jinx, just bloody bad luck.

In Israel, jinxing and putting hexes on people and stuff is quite rampant, and because many are genuinely afraid of stuff like that ("the bad eye, etc..), there is a gigantic amount of "merchandise" of good luck charms to fend off these..

Some people on this forum have received these "charms " from me for winning various games and such, so they should know what I mean.

And I'm not talking"rabbit's foot" here.. there have been many a scary story with no "earthly" explanation..

Theres an earthly explanation for all those things your talking about Kinta-Overactive imaginations usually.

The more people believe in these things the less they look for natural explanations for them-I dont believe in them at all and funnily enough Ive never seen them.

I'm glad you got to vent Fujisan-zeki. That made for some interesting non-sumo reading (Clapping wildly...)

To concur with Kintamayama-zeki's post, my mom has a huge collection of anti evil eye things. They're quite popular in Israel. (In a state of confusion...) I myself am not a big believer, but to each their own opinion...

Who took your soup?

Yeah, let's not gloss over this soup thing... which I thought was the comedic highlight of your message! :) What kind of soup was it? Who ate it?

Damn between-basho lull... ;-)

Cheers

In other words, the forum will explode at any time now. ;-)
