I came across some typos in the shikona on the Japanese side:

西ノ梅 Nishinoume's kana reading shows up as Nishinoumi. 名寄石 Nayoroishi appears as Nayoroiashi. 井上川 Inouegawa appears as Inouegaa. And 堀内川 Horiuchigawa appears as Horiutsugawa.

Maybe the source material had the typo and you didn't notice. Either way, I think they are indeed typos.

And I found 2 confusing maezumo shikonas. First, Kyokugozan's 木村川 seems to be Kimuragawa in kanji form but it shows up as Kimurayama. Second, Yuminosato's 隆奥村 should read Takaokumura but instead it's Okumurayama.

I don't know if there is interest in filling in the data for such old rikishi - birthday, death date and intai basho of Umegaki were listed in Nikkansports

32 minutes ago, Akinomaki said:

100 years ago the great Kanto earthquake severely damaged the old kokugikan and one of the many who died was the 11th Otowayama, former juryo Umegaki - the kabu remained vacant for 7 years, with him listed as the holder.

Otowayama originally came from Kyoto-zumo, was juryo for one basho. He retired in May 1897 at age 40, opened Otowayama-beya, but it closed without having a sekitori and he transferred to Ikazuchi-beya - he was 66 when he died on Sep. 1st 1923, born Dec. 18th 1856 http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202308290000519.html

Here are more typos and confusing things I found. Thanks for correcting the previous ones I posted

On the Japanese side:

Ichigashima missing "ma"
Yatsuogi appears as Zatsuogi
Akandake appears as Akansake
Chibanohoshi appears as Chibanosato (probably mistook 星 for 里)
Kotoishimi's change back to Yamashita is not reflected in the kanji
For some reason, Ojiyama has 0xfeff (zero-width no-break space) characters in the kana form of his shikona. It's also in the words Nobunaga and Sekizukayama on his profile

On both sides or not sure which one's correct:

Iizukayama missing "yama"
Miyatsunishiki 宮津山 could be Miyatsuyama
Hironoumi 弘の冨士 could be Hironofuji
Should Hikoneo have a # after it? It's there on the English and missing on the Japanese

Should Kuniazuma's english page show when he changed his shikona kanji? Or somehow is this just an error in the japanese page?

Also his first name is Vander, with a V not W (this variation exists tho) as shows his instagram, his last name is Ramos, in the english page the Vander is in all caps as if it were the surname

He changed the kanji but not the reading, so there's no change to show on the English side in such cases. However, this reminds me that his ja.wiki page shows three different given names to his shikona, as follows:

Jiro (次郎,  じろう) from 1991.09 to 1995.11
Hajime (始,  はじめ) from 1996.01 to 2002.07
Ryu (竜,  りゅう) from 2002.09 to 2004.03 (same time as the kanji change to his shikona)

I have no other source to corroborate that, but his Kyokai profile at least confirms that his final given name was Ryu.

Was going to post this in Games Bugs but I think it's more likely to be seen here, and it is a Sumo DB-adjacent problem:

There are issues accessing the Hatsu 2020 GTB entries for the two then-debuting players Joaoiyama and Massimo Mainenti, clicking their ballot links leads to 404. The issue also appears to make the selection stats overview inaccessible, even though the contents of their unviewable entries do get included in the stats on individual rikishi pages, oddly enough.

The 2022.11 playoffs don't seem to be reflected correctly within rikishi head-to-head records. I'm not sure if it's the only basho with such problems.

The issue I ran into first is Takakeisho-Abi, which shows as 5-6 but should be 5-6[+1]. It's broken in a different way (but probably related - cause and effect?) within the basho torikumi at the playoff bout.

2022.07.07 - last meeting before the playoff, shown as 2-5 at the time (correct), 5-6 total, which is wrong but expected as that's what their H2H page shows.
2022.11.16 - the playoff, shown as 2-5[+1] at the time (correct), but fails to list the career totals altogether, neither the wrong 5-6 nor the correct 5-6[+1].
2023.01.06 - shown as 3-5 at the time, 5-6 total, so now missing the playoff in the running numbers.
And carried over from there.
2023.03.04 - 3-6 at the time, 5-6 total.
2023.05.01 - 4-6 at the time, 5-6 total.
2023.09.05 - 5-6 at the time and total.

The other playoffs from 2022.11:

Takayasu-Abi, shows as 5-5 but likewise should be 5-5[+1].

2022.11.15 - 4-5 at the time (correct), 5-5 total (wrong but shown)
2022.11.16 - 4-5[+1] at the time (correct), career total gone missing again.
2023.05.11 - 5-5 at the time (now wrong, playoff result gone) and total.

Daiamami-Oshoma, shows as 3-0[+1] but should be 3-1[+1], so this one has been corrupted differently than the makuuchi pairings. Full history here because it's a regular bout that's missing.

2022.09.07 - 1-0 at the time (correct), 3-0[+1] total (wrong but shown).
2022.11.15 - 2-0 at the time (correct), total as above.
2022.11.16 - 2-0[+1] at the time (correct), total as above.
2023.01.07 - 2-1 at the time (playoff result gone), should be 2-1[+1]. And somehow now missing the career total (as opposed to the makuuchi cases where it was missing on the playoff itself).
2023.09.04 - 3-0[+1] at the time and total, so suddenly Oshoma's regular win from 2023.01 has gone missing instead of the playoff result.

Hitoshi-Kazuto correctly shows as 0[+1]-0, also on the torikumi. No error here since they haven't met again, but the underlying data has probably been corrupted as well.

Edit: 2023.03 and 2023.05 look to be broken as well.

Kirishima-Daieisho, shows as 9[+1]-6 but should be 10[+1]-6.

2023.03.15 - 8-6 at the time (correct), 9[+1]-6 total (wrong but shown).
2023.03.16 - 8[+1]-6 at the time (correct), 9[+1]-6 total.
2023.05.09 - 9-6 at the time (playoff result gone), total missing.
2023.07.11 - 9[+1]-6 at the time and total (playoff result back, Kirishima's regular win from 2023.05 gone).

Toshunryu-Kihonoumi thus far unaffected but likely also broken.

Gonoyama-Hakuoho, shows as 2-1 but should be 2[+1]-1. And this one's corrupted in yet another way.

2023.03.12 - 1-0 at the time (correct), 2[+1]-0 total (wrong and different from their H2H page...)
2023.05.11 - 2-0 at the time (correct), 2[+1]-0 total as above.
2023.05.16 - 2[+1]-0 at the time (correct), total not shown which I guess makes sense as 2[+1]-0 is the believed numbers (per the previous two bouts).
2023.07.06 - 2-1 at the time (wrong, playoff result gone), total again not shown as it has seemingly changed from 2[+1]-0 to 2-1 at this point.

Oshoryu-Satorufuji unaffected at this time, but, you know.

The 2023.07 playoffs seem to be fine - the next Hoshoryu-Hokutofuji meeting in the current basho hasn't caused any issues. 2023.01 appears to be okay, too.

(continued of sorts in the next post)

Unrelated(?) to the above, but I noticed it while investigating:

Takatoshi-Chiyosakae shows as 1-2 but should be 2-2.

2009.01.04 - 0-1 at the time (correct), 1-2 total (wrong but shown).
2009.01.06 - 1-1 at the time (correct), 1-2 total as above.
2009.03.10 - 1-1 at the time again (wrong, should be 2-1), total missing.
2014.01.12 - 1-2 at the time (wrong, should be 2-2), total not shown.

I have the sinking feeling now that I'd find a lot more if I went looking...

I wonder if the problem can come about when two rikishi are meeting twice in the same basho (either via maezumo, as here, or due to a playoff, as above).

Edit: Quickly found another one in a limited search of doubled maezumo pairings.

Wakaonehara-Tsukubayama shows as 1-2 but should be 1-3.

2020.03.03 - 0-1 at the time (correct), 1-2 total (wrong but shown).
2020.03.07 - 0-1 at the time again (wrong, should be 0-2), total missing.
2020.09.07 - 0-2 at the time (wrong, should be 0-3), 1-2 total.
2021.07.11 - 1-2 at the time (wrong, should be 1-3), total not shown.

Apparently the only bugged case out of 24 maezumo doubles (or triples) in the period 2020-2023.07. Lots of those rikishi pairings didn't happen again though, which may be required to trigger the bug.

Kisenosato - Terunofuji is fine, but they didn't meet again after this.

I was going to look for other playoff pairings, but the database went down as I was looking.

Apparently also corrupted since 2022.11, like the recurring playoff issue. Somehow the Daieisho win there made the H2H jump from 5-4 to 7-2. The following three results were then added correctly to that wrong interim record to result in 9-3.

Edit: It looks like there was a mix-up with the next bout on 2022.11 Day 2, Tobizaru-Meisei. That one went from 2-6 to 5-5. Somehow these two matches traded their assigned H2H scores.

Kyokai English site also has Kumagaya?

They either didn't check it then or he changed the reading from the uncommon one for person names of Kumagaya to Kumagai now - his results in amateur sumo also are for Kumagai http://www.ifs-sumo.org/pdf/World_Men_3.pdf

This feels like something that was probably already discussed on the SML 25 years ago, with no conclusive answer then either.

A quirky little bug I encountered when searching for shikona containing the dōnojiten or repeated kanji mark, many of which are just the family name Sasaki or derivatives of it. But among the results are Aron, Dalaibaatar and Jesse (Takamiyama), presumably because of the chōonpu sound elongation mark in the kana. Searching for that returns the same list of results. (And incidentally, Ranbo is missing his elongation mark, it should be らんぼー)

This still hasn't been corrected - came across it in my searching for Game 21 setup. Daiesho - Ura h2h https://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi_opp.aspx?r=11985#12226

Perhaps this is already known, but there are a few obscure short lived rikishi with strange shikona in the db.

I assume these are just names with unknown readings which should have the # symbol in the db.

These two have the number 2 in their Japanese shikona

These three have extra information in brackets

same for others - I found some correct (older) Kurihara entries as well though
