sekihiryu 51 Posted March 23, 2008 Just heard it on the telly.........I guess a few Kotonowaka fans on the forum will be telling him to mind the door doesnt hit him on ass on the way out.
aderechelsea 124 Posted March 23, 2008 no surprise there .... i wish him luck. (and i never understood that "henka against Kotonowaka" bull....)
Chiyozakura 130 Posted March 23, 2008 Is he really intai? I do not remember him owning a kabu and always had the impression that with his not so successful career and a not well-known heya he would have to leave the NSK once he decides to retire.
ilovesumo 12 Posted March 23, 2008 Ciao. (In a state of confusion...) He was just not that interesting...

He will be leaving the Sumo world, says the paper.
That-Satsu-Guy 1 Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) Isn't Shunketsu the guy at the bottom left corner of the sumodb.sumogames.com page? Will Doitsuyama remove him or leave his picture there as a memorial? He hasn't been doing very good sumo lately, so guess I should have seen this coming. Personally, I like Shunketsu and he will be missed. Edited March 23, 2008 by That-Satsu-Guy
higginbotham 0 Posted March 23, 2008 As it was discussed in a poll not long time ago, Shunketsu was voted as the Juryo veteran most likely to drop his rank. So it happened. Good luck
Gernobono 463 Posted March 23, 2008 Well I for one will miss him. The only active makuuchi rikishi I have done keiko with. wasn't that around the time his downslide started? (Clapping wildly...)
Danjinoumi 9 Posted March 23, 2008 At least he had his 15 minutes of fame as "the Sekitori" in the "Hall Of The Mountain Kings" blog. Didn't come off as a very nice fellow, frankly. BTW, anybody know who the mysterious "English fan who said he trains at the same northeast Tokyo amateur stable where the Sekitori got his start" mentioned in the blog might be ... ? :-)
Zuikakuyama 1 Posted March 23, 2008 This kind of surprised me. A drop of Makushita shouldn't normally trigger a retirement for a juryo regular such as him. Was he injured?

Jonosuke 28 Posted March 23, 2008 A rather serious right shoulder injury to contend with, there won't be much left for a strict Hidari-yotsu rikishi. He clearly saw the writing on the wall. If you can't even grab the right mawashi decent, why continue? He made the best possible decision for himself. He says he is not certain what he will be doing next and not indicated what he would liked to do.
Hironoumi 0 Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) Shunketsu expressed Intai by the reason of the limit of the physical strength on a day of Day 15. It is the greatest reason of Intai he hurts the right shoulder, and to have had one's sumo. I don't seem to stay in Sumo-Kyokai. As for the future of Shunketsu, it isn't yet decided it. :-) As for Haru results, it was decided to fall in Makushita by 3-12. Hatsu-Dohyou:Haru 1992 (The same period:Kyokutenho,Kyokushuzan,Asanowaka,Maikaze,Takanotsuru,Wakanosato, Ryugi,Asanosho,Harunoyama,Takanowaka, etc…) New-Juryo:Hatsu 2001 New-Makunouchi:Haru 2005 Max-Rank:M12 Results in total:461-434-17(97 Bashos) Results in Makunouchi:32-43(5 Bashos) Juryo Yusho:once Makushita Yusho:once I stayed in Makunouchi for 5 quarters. During Kyushu 2005, he was the opponent of the active last of Kotonowaka. Thank you,Shunketsu Edited March 23, 2008 by Hironoumi

Fay 1,677 Posted March 24, 2008 To quote Ms. Uchidate, he already was intai for me (In a state of confusion...), but nevertheless I wish him luck for his future.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted March 24, 2008 The only thing I remember about Shunketsu is that some one posted he used to have hookers come to the heya for him on a regular basis? Or am I imagining things now? (Holiday feeling...) Anyways, I guess he'll have more time to enjoy his hobby henceforth (In a state of confusion...)
Asashosakari 19,038 Posted April 3, 2008 The second picture looks as though Shunketsu just henka'ed the poor kid. (I am going off-topic...)
aderechelsea 124 Posted April 3, 2008 The second picture looks as though Shunketsu just henka'ed the poor kid. ;-) my thought exactly ... (I am going off-topic...) (Blushing...) he was probably preparing for that bout against Kotonowaka :-P

Kintamayama 44,744 Posted April 26, 2008 Ex-Makuuchi Shunketsu had his danpatsushiki (retirement haircutting ceremony) today. 180 people, including Kotomitsuki and Kotoshougiku were there to cut. "I enjoyed my third time in Juryo (when he made it to Makuuchi) more than my first time in Juryo", he said. He has no concrete plans yet, but hopes to be in the food business. I guess the Kotonowaka thing was never an issue after all..
