Murakami 0 Posted May 6, 2008 I've been a member of this forum for a quite few years, not to mention lurker years on SML. And I like to thank all the fine people who created this site and those who still maintain it. I just never got to introduce myself and for that I apologize. I am 100% 'humble most of the time' Mongolian and proud of that as most of us do. At the very moment, we are experiencing a blizzard outside, yes it May 6th, and I am thinking whether my cows and sheep are okay, I need to go.
Jonosuke 28 Posted May 6, 2008 Sorry for my ignorance but UB City, short for Ulaanbaatar? How many hours of Ozumo can you get to see live each day duing a basho? Do you get to see all of Makuuchi or also Juryo as welll? Blizzards in May or not, it is definitely the country I'd like to visit before I leave this planet. I am used to blizzards anyway but I will certainly love to get as close as possible to Burkhan Khaldun one day.

Most Mongolian tv stations directly broadcast the NHK Japan coverage. Some cable networks have NHK English as well. So, we get to see all the actions as NHK allows us. Mongolians don't watch sumo with as much enthusiasm as they did last year though. I think most of the people here know why. No need to elaborate on this. Sadly, I'd also love to get as close as possible to Burkhan Khaldun one day, sigh. Nevertheless, not so much, since I've stood inside the crown of the Statue of Liberty while most Americans have not. I am also planning to visit Mongolia in the not too distant future. When is the best time of year to visit? Mongolia is quite big and has very diverse flora and fauna, not to mention the lowest population density in the world. The best time to visit depends on what you want to see or to do while in Mongolia. You definitely cannot see all in one go. But generally speaking, the best time to visit is from mid May to mid September. If you are hunting or fishing you may come to Mongolia as late as late October. If you are willing to risk becoming ice mummy when your 4WD fails you, you are welcome in -30, -40 or even -50 Celsius in winter. As I said, the Mongolian landscape is unlike undulating boreal forests of Russia or the sands of Arabia. There are lush Alpine lands, barren sandy deserts, boundless steppes and everything in between. Although I have traveled quite extensively in my country, I know only a little bit of my country. Not an exaggeration. As an example, I'd thought for I all I know that the biggest waterfall in Mongolia is Ulaan tsutgalan located in Uberkhangai, until a foreigner proved and humbled me wrong. There are places where a human being hasn't set a foot in thousands of years. And that's Mongolia. And wow I am better than some of those travel agency guys, hehe.
