Manekineko 200 Posted May 23, 2008 First Ami-chan gets Osh's number. Then Mickey helps his fellow ozeki by downing Hakuho. Then Kaio sweeps the dohyo with Asashoryu! Such a perfect day. (Clapping wildly...)

(Clapping wildly...) yeah, I personally don't remember Asashoryu being waved around like a rag doll... Maybe is back is really not good at all... Asameshimae 220 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) I can't say I enjoyed today's sumo. Isn't it supposed to be who wants it more? Not who doesn't want it the least? Sure Aminishiki had a basho lead over him, but so did the two yokozuna. Now he is just going to limp into the yusho? Kotooshu had to choke sooner or later, but he almost had me believing. But then the two yokozuna give lackluster performances and don't even capitalize on Oshu's choke. Gimmeabreak. Yeah, I wanted Oshu to get the yusho, but like this? That's the last basho like this I want to see. At least seeing all three of the "hopefuls" left go down one, two, three was a spectacle, if nothing else. Hopefully they'll step up tomorrow (though Asa's out of it now). (I have been a sumo fan for over 10 years, but it never occured to me to seek out a forum for it until a few days ago) Yoroshiku. Manekineko 200 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) Well, the main reason I enjoyed it so much is because I like Ami, Mickey and KaioU so much. And of course, the glee of seeing favorites lose... But it was more than that. Aminishiki, of course, can defeat anyone on a good day... and today I was bit annoyed by Osh's "pay-back" tachi-ai games after Ami's initial matta. If Osh had been more focused on the bout to come and not on gauding Ami, he might have won. As it is, he was caught on the wrong foot and poof, went the zensho. Mickey wrestled like an ozeki, which is always good to see. Seeing Kaio flinging Asa like that - it was a glimpse of Kaio of old, and I don't get many glimpses like that anymore. I may never get another... ps. Welcome, Asanomeshi! Edited May 23, 2008 by Manekineko

Yes Kotooshu seems to be in the initial stages of stumbling and falling, like a drunk ,towards the the finish line ,but his competitors are walking wounded.... I suppose there would be a grim kind pleasure in this-if only to see Kotooshu miserably choke again! (Clapping wildly...) (In jonokuchi...)
salle 11 Posted May 23, 2008 Perhaps the two Yokozunas are playing dirty games to Kotooshu (In jonokuchi...) They lost on purpose to be able to tell him later: "You see you can only win when WE decide so!" Maybe they had secret dinner together with Aminishiki yesterday and let him eat their chanko-nabe. That's why Aminishiki was stronger than them today. P.S. Respect to Aminishiki (Clapping wildly...) He is one of my favorites on current Makuuchi banzuke. Sokkenaiyama 81 Posted May 23, 2008 Aminishiki wasn't stronger than his ordinary self. He beat Kotooshu mentally, before the bout. Linger on a bit, do a false start and everyone will start wondering what you're up to. Kotooshu was thinking the same, and given Aminishiki's bad henka reputation, his tachi-ai was nonexistent, he just stood there and took the charge, while Aminishiki took off like a cannonball. Kotooshu deserved to lose today.
sekihiryu 51 Posted May 23, 2008 Aminishiki, of course, can defeat anyone on a good day... and today I was bit annoyed by Osh's "pay-back" tachi-ai games after Ami's initial matta. If Osh had been more focused on the bout to come and not on gauding Ami, he might have won. As it is, he was caught on the wrong foot and poof, went the zensho. Aminishiki took a leaf out of the Hokutoriki play book, by jumping out of the blocks early, his second fist was a good foot from touching the dirt. Aminisihiki got out first and got Kotooshu on the back foot. Osh might have won if the start had been fairer. Sumo is interesting compared to other sports in that false starts are not punished. good ole Aminishiki aye, I personally dislike him as in the two times I have met him he was cold and unfriendly - give me a chatty Takekaze type anyday. This basho just became rather anti-climatic, lets hope for some more action in the final 2 days.
