Taizeniki 0 Posted May 25, 2008 Kazafuzan fights ever boldy, if slowly, onward with another 4-3 KK! Way to go Tiger!
Golynohana 319 Posted May 25, 2008 Kinryuzan in lower sandanme started great with 3 straight wins, but after that he lost next two and gave up another one with fusensho, so I was affraid that he got injured and MK is sure. But luckily he showed up for his seventh bout and won it to finish with KK (Sign of approval...)
Azumashida 1 Posted May 25, 2008 Masunofuji had his best career basho, a 6-1 as Sd54w! Should be very close to makushita on next banzuke! (Sign of approval...)
Raishu 207 Posted May 25, 2008 Ms8e Minami: He again finished with a strong 5-2 record and will move up to the Juryo promotion zone. Fortunately, he won't have to face Yamamotoyama, which might be slight advantage. Ms44e Shibuya: He's still on track with a 5-2. Well done, Sir! Jd68e Kainomiya: He wasn't able to achieve KK at his career high rank (3-4). Jd129w Takanomiya: After having missed the last basho, he finished with a 5-2 result on the bottom of Jonidan. The new members on board: Of course, I had to adopt the new twin package (Sign of approval...) Jk10e Akinoyama: 4-3 Jk11e Akinokawa: 2-5 and last but not least... Jk19w Kinunonami: 4-

FYI: If you "give up" a bout without appearing, I would call it a fusenpai ("loss without fight"). Fusensho literally means "win without fight".
Asojima 2,873 Posted May 25, 2008 A great basho for my newest adoptee!! Homarefuji (Jd96E) captured the Jonidan Yusho in his second hon-basho. He went 7-0 and then defeated his nemesis Fukao in a ketteisen. He had been 0-2 against Fukao in mae-zumo and their first hon-basho. His wins have been almost exclusively oshi/tsuki efforts My other adoptee didn't fare near as well. Hitachigo (Sd30E) ended up with a 2-5 makekoshi. His record pattern for the last 10 basho is 3 KK, 3 MK, 3 KK, 1 MK. I am hoping that he can break this pattern in July.
Peterao 3 Posted May 26, 2008 Sd52 Kamakura got his KK in his last bout, hopefully the beginning of the slow climb back to Makushita.
Harry 67 Posted May 26, 2008 After a promising start, my 'boys' mostly had troubles. Ohifuji 大日富士 4-3 Not a bad record but he couldn't string them together. His record was win, loss, win, loss, win, loss, win. 6 of his opponents went on to get KK so it was not a powder puff torikumi. Asaamami 朝奄美 2-5 He just didn't do well, taking until his third match for a win and only getting one more. Apart from Budozan he only went against MK opponents so he did not do well at all. Kairiki 甲斐力 (was Ono 小野) 2-5 He started well, 2-1 but then lost his last 4. He too went up against only one opponent who got KK so not a good basho for him. The shikona change didn't do much for his luck. Shintaku 新宅 2-5 He started out 2-0 and I thought he would do well but then he lost his last 5... His torikumi was fairly difficult, going up against yusho winner Yashiki and 6-1 Inoue and two other KK achievers. In JK often even 2-5 means a 'promotion' of sorts but he'll have to do better. Gambatte!
ilovesumo 12 Posted May 26, 2008 All KK (Shaking head...)
Kotononami 86 Posted May 26, 2008 Sd48w Mankajo went 5-2 and is now on a 3 KK streak. He will move on higher sandanme next basho , we'll see in Nagoya if he can gambarize to be close to makushita level.
Asashosakari 19,038 Posted May 26, 2008 An excellent basho for Koryu, 12-3 and promotion to makuuchi. (Shaking head...) My newer adoptee Kyokutaisei also did well in mid-jonidan in his second basho, getting a 5-2 and moving to upper jonidan next time. And a new adoptee out of mae-zumo, Tajima...21 years old, short (171 cm) and seemingly blessed with a good body for sumo, but nevertheless came in last in the mae-zumo class for reasons that will hopefully become clear one way or another in a few days when somebody is kind enough to post the mae-zumo results... Fay 1,677 Posted May 26, 2008 So here are my adoptees and their results for this basho: Kihonoumi - Dewanoumi beya, my first ever adoptee After his injury last basho he returned on SD 82 and could get his KK with a 5-2 Kotomisen - Sadogatake beya, could make it to makushita again last basho, but to be realistic, upper sandanme might be the end of his dreams. He finished with a 2-5. Chiyoarashi - Kokonoe Beya, made a big jump to sandanme after his 6-1 in Haru Basho, a bit to high for him in the moment, but he did fine and has a 3-4. If he will grow a bit, I'm sure he will have a nice career. Kainohama - Tomozuna Beya, got his kk fortunately before becoming injured once again. He may have to cancel Nagoya basho and I can only hope his knee will be fine after one more surgery Maybe we will see Kainowaka - Tomozuna Beya, in makushita again next basho. I'm not sure he can stay there, but he was happy and will do his best again. Takakiho - Takanohana Beya got a kk and should be in makushita too next basho for the second time. Hope he can stay there and start his sekitori run again. Mongolian Arawashi - Araiso beya, had his 3rd 6-1 in a row. I'm always happy when nothing happens to his shoulder again. He will make a big jump into makushita. Kei - Onomatsu Beya, had his 2nd regular basho and his 2nd 6-1! My sekitori hope Hokazan - Miyagino beya had his 3rd mk in a row but I'm not willing to give up for him. My problem children Kotomyozan and Masuda: Kotomyozan - Sadogatake beya made his 1st KK after escaping Asashosakari's watch and he can be proud. A little support is all he needs (Shaking head...). Masuda - Arashio beya could escape Asashosakari last basho and it looked to me it might have been a little by accident. But I could see that he has the will to fight and I will watch him a bit longer. Good luck boys!
Koneko 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Hehe, I wanted to adopt Homarefuji last march, but Asojima beat me to it. Gotta be quicker. As for Kainokura, it started out so well but it didn't last - ended up with MK, 3-4. He's still just a kid though, and I'm an optimist with all the time in the world to spare. We'll both work hard to improve ourselves, methinks. (And he can juggle, how cool is that?) (Shaking head...)
Gusoyama 99 Posted May 27, 2008 5-2 and back into Makushita for Takanoyama 4-3 and into Jonidan for Daiseiho(former Funakoshi) So 2 promotions for my boys!
Danjinoumi 9 Posted May 28, 2008 My adoptee Shiratsuka got off to a rip-roaring 3-0 start, including shiroboshi against two ex-Makuuchi rikishi (Daimanazuru and Tamarikido) in a row, before losing to fellow behemoth Towanoyama and Makushita veteran Rikiryu. He rebounded with consecutive wins to finish 5-2 for the basho. All seven of Shira-kun's bouts were won or lost by yorikiri. I guess you'd call that standard meat-and-potatoes sumo. A 5-2 record from ms19w will probably put him at around ms10 at Nagoya. Barring a zensho yusho from that rank, it will probably take two more basho with 5 or more wins to reach Juryo. Unless he stumbles and heats the wall ...
