Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 12, 2004 You may not be professional but these look pretty good to me. You have managed to get an insider feel of things. I particularly like the shots from the imperial box, the approach to the KG and the shrines. (I haven't yet displayed them all full size due to my low line speed, but I have enjoyed all the ones I have seen so far.) (Laughing...) Thanks Naganoyama-san. On the shrines you will notice the foxes (means it is an Inari Shrine connected to business / wealth / commerce etc - old time harvest / rice). To that end I am unsure as to whether it is a shrine of the many shops in the KG or for the KG itself? ANR
Tony 16 Posted January 12, 2004 Somebody have pics of Kirishima? Manekineko? I'm a big fan!
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted January 13, 2004 (edited) Nice pics, Adachinoryu (Laughing...) Darn, got to go there some day... ;-) Anyway, this has not really anything to do with this basho, but something that struck me when getting an old mag through ebay the other week. Behold, the evolution of sumo magazine covers (Applauding...) Top: Wakanosato, Ozumo 2003.11 Bottom: Taiho, Sumo 1963.04 B-) Edited January 13, 2004 by Yubiquitoyama

Fujisan 533 Posted January 13, 2004 (edited) The legendary Taiho eh? I would never have recognised him from the other pictures I've seen. Off Topic- Hey Naifuzan,I see in bench sumo day 2 you lost by Oshidashi-How does it feel to lose to yourself? I see why you changed your shikona now. Tenkashoryu 0 Posted January 13, 2004 When I saw yokozuna Taiho's poster with a glance, I thought it was Kyokutenho. Do you guys see what I see? ;-)
Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 13, 2004 When I saw yokozuna Taiho's poster with a glance, I thought it was Kyokutenho. Do you guys see what I see? ;-) Blindfolded, in a dark cellar on a dark night and having had bad eyesight since birth perhaps.... Joking aside though - a little yes. Naganoyama 5,911 Posted January 13, 2004 When I saw yokozuna Taiho's poster with a glance, I thought it was Kyokutenho. Do you guys see what I see? ;-) Round the cheeks perhaps. Tenho would have been smiling though. (BTW Isn't he a nice guy, placid and good-natured like Musashimaru!)
Yoma 0 Posted January 13, 2004 Thanks Yubi-zeki for that great image of Taiho! Thanks also to Manekineko for that early Kaio picture! I especially love that one! (Sign of approval)
Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 14, 2004 On more pics - I'LL be going on Day 8 again so will focus camera time on Juryo / Makuuchi this time - ONLY if Koto-san will goive his OK to post the pics like we did last week. Might also focus on the bento Kinta-san mentioned because I saw neither on Sunday - not one - zilch - etc. Till day 8. ANR

Guest Akatabi Posted January 15, 2004 There's a Photoshop contest over at Fark.com where readers are invited to edit the image of KONISHIKI and his new wife. Obviously, not all the images are very respectful.

Actually, when I saw this figure in Spirited Away, I thought that the similarity to a sumotori must be intentional:
Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 15, 2004 Actually, when I saw this figure in Spirited Away, I thought that the similarity to a sumotori must be intentional: Yes, I think there is an obvious similarity to Masutsuyoshi. Judging from that, I would think that the Radish Spirit would at least be an Upper Juryo regular :-) Cheers Zenjimoto
sekihiryu 51 Posted January 16, 2004 :-( (Feeling guilty...) that fark site is seriously funny, I love Konishiki the Hutt the best.
sekihiryu 51 Posted January 17, 2004 (edited) Here is a photo of the man of the moment, his face would be on a wheaties box if they only had Wheaties in Japan. But here he is on a packet of furikake, a spice added to the top of a bowl of rice. Edited January 17, 2004 by sekihiryu
Naganoyama 5,911 Posted January 17, 2004 Hey that was funny. I liked the one where they had swapped clothes.
Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 18, 2004 Pictures of Day 8 coming soon. Not the quality of the newspapers as I mentioned last week but much more focussed on the upper ranking rikishi this time. Dohyo Iri's this time, a fair few on the Yokozuna and even the mae-zumo lads being introduced. As soon as I can (Pulling hair...) ANR

Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 25, 2004 To bring this thread back to the top some pics have now been sent to Koto-san for his help in uploading. Guess sometime in the not too distant future (although they are of Day 8) Hope they are enjoyed but if anyone thinks so - thank not me alone. I just pointed the camera and clicked. Koto-san is the guy who is making this happen. Dittos Koto-san. ANR
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 25, 2004 (edited) As mentioned above these are from nakabi. I skipped few images I thought were a bit too defocussed. Happens to me all the time as well in dim surroundings when the exposure time is too long for the hand to stay stabilized. --- First two images of wall paintings? Left, rigft --- Mae-zumo introduced to the audience in their borrowed keshos --- Two images of gozengakari Left, rigft --- Yokozuna dohyo-iri --- Makuuchi dohyo-iri --- Finally four images of Asashoryu's and Kyokushuzan bout showing also the kensho parade. I'm not sure about the correct order of the images. 1, 2, 3, 4 Update: Just occurred to me I could have checked the time stamps of the images... (Blushing...)
