New Mongolian for Takanohana beya

Takanohana beya has recruited an 18 year old Mongolian. The kid is a Tottori Jouhoku (Kotomitsuki's alma mater, among others) third year high school student. He will be undergoing the physicals for November. He has been in Japan since March 2006, winning in the middleweight category in last year's amateur Junior World Championships held in Thailand and finishing second in the national high school championships held last May. He is a fan of Takanohana's and will be his first Mongolian recruit and the first new recruit with any serious prior sumo experience. "The foreign rikishis' hinkaku is being questioned at the moment, but I'm far removed from those things. Every man is an individual, and I'd like to go down my own road honestly and slowly..", said the kid. He is an orphan who lost his mother in 2000 and his father in 2006. "He is a man of the world versed in the ways of Bushido.." said Takanohana, hinting that he has high hopes for the kid. As for his actual debut, it all depends when he gets his entertainers' visa and could still be Kyushu, but may be January. "I'd like to become a sekitori as soon as I can", he said. He is 1.82 meters and weighs 120 kilos.He has an older brother and an older sister.

Is this kid sound like "Baasandorji"?

He placed second at this year's Kanazawa Open High School Sumo Tournament finishing after the yusho winner Kanazawa Gakuin's Seita Endo.

I keep wondering about this "Baasandorji" guy as there is another one with the same name with Boei University. He is in his fourth year but weighs less than 75 kg.

I wonder if they are related or it's a name common in Mongolia.

Glad to see new Mongolian in Takanohana beya.:-P The Former champion has a great character. I believe he can develope good rikishi.

Then I think this kid is well worthwhile watching out for.

Tottori Jonoku High as we know has a tremendous sumo club with distingushed history and past accomplishments　- aside from Kotomitsuki, Sakaizawa is also from Johoku.

He may not be a Tochozan or Goeido class yet but has good potentials to develop like them.

I think he will be a future star of Takanohana Beya - a good Makuuchi material.

He also silvered in the junior heavyweight category this year and took bronze in the men's team competition. Evidently nobody reads those 240 metric tons of results I typed up... It's Adiya Baasandorj according to the World Championship data, BTW, but I'm not going to bet any steaks that that's 100% correct as there were some obvious typos in there (so I'm guessing there were also some non-obvious ones).

OK now that we got his real name straight, i've got a shikona for him.

We already have Kotooshu but no Asia yet. So rhyming with his first name Adiya, how about Taka-Asia　－貴亜細亜.

Granted it's four kanji so it may not be exactly signifying a good fortune and 細 (thin) may not be a good kanji for a rikishi but it may represent the shisho.

Takaasia. I kind of like it myself......

A friend, who was at Rakvere told me about him, so I said to her, he will go to Takanohana Beya soon. Hey I will earn my money as a clairvoyant in future :-P

New hope for Takanohana Beya, as my Takakiho still is fighting to reach - and stay in - makushita. Hopefully they both will work good together to make it to sekitori.

very strong kid indeed. I watched him do some keiko in Rakvere and he definitely looks like Ozumo material. His sparring against the mongolian world champion was pretty intense.

i am glad he did the move as i predicted this as soon as i laid eyes on him and found out his age.Sama thing as "Yokozuna Kyokushuho" ... (Shaking head...) :-P

he'll be one to watch for me even though he didn't enter a heya i like very much ...

Neat, but if his name is Baasandorj, that 'Adiya' that comes first is his father's name. Almost all Mongolians have only one name, and put their father's one name in front. Googling 'Mongolian names' will get you misleading information abiout family names being officially handed out.

Takanohana-beya's Mongolian shin-deshi overwhelms heyagashira

Takanohana-beya's new recruit, Mongolian Adiya Baasandorj, had his shin-deshi tests on the 30th but on the 29th he had taken part in his first keiko session at the heya. Having hte pedigree of coming from Tottori Johoku High and being the Junior World Middleweight champion, during moshiai he overwhelmed the head rikishi in the heya, former makushita but now sandanme Takakihou. He displayed a high level of ability. Shisho takanohana oyakata made the assessment "That he's able to do this in his first training really shows something." The man himself sadi "I want to become a sekitori as soon as I can" and is looking forward to his hatsu-dohyo. However, it is doubtful that his entertainer visa will be processed in time for Kyushu so he'll probably have to wait until january to get on the dohyo.

Just out of interest what is the legal drinking age in Mongolia?

I don't want to squeal on Adiya like Dobbernoho but I'm sure he wasn't drinking yaks milk when I met him in Thailand after the worlds.The Mongolian team all seem to enjoy a well deserved tasty beverage.They virtually inhaled the jugs of beer I sent over.

He seems a really nice guy and I'm sure he tear his way up the banzuke.

I thought he said he was from Totoro High. I imagined that it was a school full of wonderful Studio Ghibli characters and he got picked up everyday by the Catbus.Just as well I declined their kind offer of a glass of that Duty Free Mongolian Cordial or might have had nightmares about the school mascot below.

Takanoiwa may be on his way to a first yusho in Johnny Dan. 6-0 with three others as written elsewhere, but I thought it would be nice to bump up this topic and have everything in its place.

The win of Takaniowa against Takarafuji from Isegahama Beya was as close as it can be, decided after a long match and long monoii. Takarafuji's finger touched the ground first.

Takanoiwa now has to fight against Tenroku from Onomatsu Beya, Tenroku isn't bad at all, but Takanoiwa may be constitutionally superior. I cross my fingers for him anyway :-) .
