Unfortunately, I have no info on his post-Kyushu2008 health status, but according to his pre-Kyushu status, I'd say he'll hang on for at least another year.

Edit: Voted for mediocre, won't retire, 5 KK.

I wish I could see what my vote was in all the previous poll editions, that feature would be a very useful forum feature, a lot more so than some of the other fluff I.p Board comes with.

I really think this will be the year.....but I probably said that last year.

You could do something crazy like make your picks in the poll then post to tell everyone (and yourself down the road after you've forgotten) how you voted. Strike up a conversation...what a novel idea on a forum.

I said retire in July after one KK....

Of course, having voted that, I realize that it would actually happen in May when he realizes his attempt to avoid demotion will be unsuccessful.

Jan - KK

Mar - MK

May - MK then retire

Very sad bye-bye in Hatsu despite all we experienced during recent years. This is the time (Showing respect...) .

Is there any rule that Kaio has to intai ozumo when he will be 65 years old? (I am not worthy...) A little bit more seriously I guess that he will give up in May 20xx.

(In jonokuchi...) good question! I suppose at 65 retirement will be mandatory but he could always hire the same PR people as the Chinese Gymnastic Squad last year...

Once again we have voted for Kaio's retirement in the upcoming year (as we have done for the past 3 years). It seems that we think his intai will come quite soon, with Jan / Feb being the favourite option.

Not surprisingly (therefore) the total number of KK bashos also has a low prediction.

Time to close this poll.

Will it be repeated for 2010?

Can you believe it? - about two-thirds of us didn't - Kaio hasn't retired in 2009 - and has set some records in the process.

Every basho in 2009 he had an 8-7 record - making six kachikoshis. Only one person predicted this!

By the definition of the question, he was a 'mediocre ozeki' in 2009 - as predicted by 18.42% of us. Well done.
