Day 4 Thoughts and Observations

Recommended Posts

Ryuo won his match against Jumonji, but he suffered what looked like a serious ankle injury when he went out. He was hauled out in a wheelchair. Probably won't be back this basho.

Tochinonada once again proves he can not be trusted by losing to Kakizoe when the odds looked very good for him. Bet a lot of sumo gamers fell in that trap today.

Aran - you pussy, leaping around like a pansy against a real man.

Homasho looking good

Tochiozan - on fire! glad I picked him for lots of games, he is hot and cold but this basho is white hot!

Georgian #2 - nice show of "core" power by throwing the behemoth - Iwakiyama.

Ex-Ama dumped the silver mawashi in favor of a black one. Didn't do any good.

Bart is coming of age. He has been showing a lot more poise and self control this basho. I may have to rethink his eventual ozeki potential.

Not eluding to anything, but the last 3 times Kotooshu started 4-0 he's gone 14-1Y, 13-2D and 13-2Y(Juryo). I'm just sayin'... :-)

There's a first time for everything, and the rensho likely ends tomorrow against Aminishiki. Hope he at least gets double digits though.

I'll bet his heya is really regretting insisting on the name change. The world of sumo is so superstitious about such things - it's so superstitious that even I have become superstitious about such things, seemed like it was tempting fate. And if enough people believe it, the superstition has power. The previously unflappable Ama (sorry, Haruma) is highly flappable. Again I curse his heya.

Yeah, I hadn't checked, but it seemed like this was a very good sign for Oshu. Of course, he is probably realizing it too, and he doesn't handle pressure well.

Nishinoshima once said, yotsu is a failure to do sumo. Yet today we could watch in the Kasugao-Kotokasuga bout how the failure to do yotsu can result in very bad oshi sumo. :-)

Since becoming yokozuna, Asashoryu started basho with four straight win 18 times. Only once he failed to win yusho. Perhaps his old Tokoyama is right. The man may be waiting for the gent in his yusho parade car. I am not just sayin'...you can look it up.
