Kazafuzan really stumbled this time out @ 1-6 in the rarified air of mid-upper Makushita. Keep working, Tiger!!!! You'll get there!

Nagakura (Kokonoe-beya, Jd90) finished this hatsu basho with a nice 5-2. (Showing respect...)

Looks like Shiratsuka is a "not (quite) ready for prime time player". At ms5w he stumbled directly to make-koshi before winning two in a row. I hoped he could minimize the damage and keep himself within striking distance of a return to makushita joi (and then on to sekitori-hood, of course) with a third win, but he lost his final match to end up at 2-5. He should fall to ~ms15-18 for the Haru Basho.

Let's hope this basho was a wake-up call and he comes back over the next two or three basho full of ganbarization and ready to reach glorious new heights as a sekitori!

Some of my adoptees are hard luck but I support them anyways!

In jonokuchi, Asaamami was back down there again for hatsubasho but got 4-3 so I hope he finds better luck in jonidan next basho.

Shintaku seems to be on the persistence list, 3-4 in jonokuchi again after the best start so far for him, 3-2. Zannen. Needs to eat some serious amounts of chanko and gohan before harubasho!

Kairiki was in low jonidan but sadly went 2-5 so will be in jonokuchi again.

Ohifuji got 4-3 in jonidan so there will be a modest rise there. Record could have been even better but a KK is a KK!

Yashiki managed 4-3 in high sandanme so I'm told that means makushita for harubasho. Omedetou gozaimasu!

3-4 at his highest rank for skinny Takanoyama, and a 0-0-7 for Daiseiho, not sure why though.

Great start with 4 straight wins, but disappointing end of the basho for Masunofuji, 4-3 as Sd37w. I'm convinced he'll do better in Osaka!

It was not a good basho for my two adoptees.

Hitachigo started out with a win at his career high of Sd22w, but he then dropped his next 6.

Homarefuji started his career with two zen-yushos and two 5-2's in his first 4 bashos, but he has now had 2 consecutive 3-4 bashos. It appears that mid-Makushita may be the capability level he came in at out of college. It's wall hitting time. The March basho may provide a indicator of his career potential.

Both of my adoptees earned KK this tme and I even adopted a new one. My first two guys I adopted in 2007 because they hail from the area of Tokyo I currently live (Fussa/Akishima).

36 year old veteran Fusanohana pulled out a 4-3 from mid Jonidan which is the part of the banzuke he seems to be comfortable in.

Sd 45 Takakiho pulled out a solid 5-2 to end his 3 straight MK streak. Let's hope he can stay on the winning track and get back to Makushita soon.

My new guy is Jd 98 Kawashita who I noticed in the first week as having some potential. He lost his last bout on day 13 and just missed out on a try for the Jonidan yusho ending at a strong 6-1 in only his 2nd basho. I haven't really followed promotion trends at this level, but I assume he'll either be in high Jonidan or low Sandanme in Haru. I'm hoping he can carry on and give a strong showing at his new career high rank.

Gambatte, Team Washuyama!!!

Kotokonjo back down in jonokuchi equaled his best record, 5-2, so expect him to mk in jonidan next basho. (Sign of disapproval...)

Better late than never:

(3-4) Minami Ms13: Darn, up and down. Hope he comes back strongly in Haru.

(4-3) Shibuya Ms24: I guess thats a result I could expect from him (KK scorer in mid-Makushita; but still too inexperienced for Ms5+).

(3-4) Kainomiya Jd38 + (2-5) Takanomiya Jd68: The MK twins for this basho.

(4-3) Akinoyama Jd47 + (5-2) Akinokawa Jd87: The KK twins for this basho.

(6-1) Kinunonami Jd73: Excellent basho for him. A KK in March will probably be enough for a Sandanme debut in May.

Beside my diverse Takanohana/Izutsu/Sadogatake/Tomozuna adoptees (Showing respect...), my first ever adoptee Kihonoumi, I concentrate on 4 more for about 1 1/2 years now.

Chiyoarashi - Kokonoe Beya

DSC_4838.jpg

Another KK for Chiyoarashi, his 3rd in a row. The 5-2 record will bring him close to or up to makushita next basho. He still is at the same height (1,73m) as he was 1 1/2 years before, but as he still is 17, he may grow some cm. He only lost to Kotowatanabe and Ozakiumi, two other great talents, this basho and his fight against Kainowaka was spectacular :-D.

Hokazan - Miyagino Beya

DSC_3629.jpg

Hokazan finished with a 5-2 this basho after 2 mk in November and September, when he was a bit injured as he said. Hokazan started professional sumo at the same time as Chiyoarashi but he is two years older. He said to me, he will not give himself too much time to make it to sekitori. So lets hope his dream will come true. He has my support for sure.

Fujimoto - Onomatsu Beya

DSC_2992001.jpg

After his 5-2 in November Fujimoto finished with a 3-4, unlucky losing his last bout to a henka by Yoshiazuma. He lacks a bit self confidence said his Oyakata but we are working on it (Showing respect...). I'm sure he has the potential to make it to sekitori, just a bit more patience ...

Kairyu - Tagonoura Beya

DSC_2452.jpg

Kairyu did a lot better than I expected. With his 5-2 at Kyushu basho he reached his highest ranking at SD 67 and this time again a 5-2!! I'm really curious how he will do at Haru Basho.
