Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted November 23, 2003 No need for words... Caption contest material even... "The bright side is that I guess this also looks like a nice display of flexibility.." "Why am I smelling his mawashi during an oshi attack...well man's gotta do what man's gotta do and I'll have a good drive going! I think he is not going to be able to put his feet back to ground anymore and that greatly enhances my chances for quick oshidashi win! It is funny how ageless this moment is though since I can think all these things in a fraction of a second. Oh well, it is a job! I think I need some sake tonight! It is a shame Otsukasa-zeki got make-koshi...ok lets concetrate on this scene now! I'll push him to 3rd row I think"

Kashunowaka 300 Posted November 23, 2003 Again, I see no image! I suppose it is from the Kyokushuzan-Yotsukasa bout today? That bout was the comical highlight of Kyushu basho. (Holiday feeling...)
Mikiro 0 Posted November 23, 2003 I think Kyokushuzan thought he was 5 years younger, 50 lbs. lighter and had the vertical leap of Kobe Bryant. Unfortunately for him as he attempted to slip the surly bond of gravity, reality set in as he turned out to have the vertical leap of Charles Barkley. Fujisan 533 Posted November 23, 2003 I think its from the tv special "Sumo does Swan lake." Unfortunately the no females rule led the NSK to cast Kyokushuzan as the female lead-Which satisfied everyone except Yotsukasa who will be in traction 3 months. Mark Buckton 1 Posted November 24, 2003 Don't know if anyone saw the NHK (who chose the last day only - NOT to include bi-lingual transmission despite advertising such and the Saturday staff saying twould be so--aaahhhh) show but as soon a the K man landed following his 'removal from the ring' he was beaming all over and even laughing. Funny indeed (In a state of confusion...) ANR

Zenjimoto-san, firstly - just completed my first try at both sekitori and oracle - enjoyed both but turned up pretty miserably though - thanks for that. On the NHK thing - no Japanese station (including NHK BS) that usually has it had it yesterday (some trivial J2 soccer game that a few farmers up in northern Japan were bothered about got precedence) Anyway, gave a call to the marvellouly helpful and incredibly bright staff at NHK who first said try the button on the remote control - like - uh-thanks for that idea. Finally the woman realised that today isn't scheduled today to be bi-lingual (as I understood it - as 'stereo format isn't comapitible with bilingual' huh? methoughts again but realised some telephone answering staff member wasn't really capable of much beyond the 'textbook apologies' I got by the tenfold. Phone down and make do. Still - Tochi won ANR
Zenjimoto 40 Posted November 24, 2003 This just came over the SML from Lynn Matsuoka, who was commentating yesterday: "ON Senshraku NHK TV , without any notice to it's viewers in Japan , switched the English sumo broadcast to Hi- vision. Everyone tuning in to enjoy the last day of the last basho of this year was out of luck, unless they were among the very few who have high vision in Japan and happened to find it." "NHK could have announced on the Saturday broadcast that Sunday would be on a different channel, but they did not. The reaon I heard from the staff is that NHK does not really care about the English broadcast. If anyone of you in Japan was upset about the total absence of this broadcast on the most inportant day, please write to NHK and tel them what you think." Unreal! Somebody needs to be shot! (Sigh...) Mark Buckton 1 Posted November 24, 2003 Cheers for the above Zenjimoto-san, I'll be contacting NHK come worktime tomorrow but it is useful to know what Lynn says. ANR

Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 24, 2003 (...) as soon a the K man landed following his 'removal from the ring' he was beaming all over and even laughing. Yes, you could see this even on the low-res web feed. He knew how silly his attempt of... What? A yassotobi?... must've looked like. Good to see he's able to laugh at himself. Hashira 0 Posted November 24, 2003 any chance that someone has this bout recorded? it's not on banzuke.com
Doitsuyama 1,185 Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) I have it recorded from the webstream, and I intend to snip my recordings into pieces and put them online at http://www.banzuke.com/~juryoika/200311/index.html, as usual. Due to several work assignments last week I have a healthy backlog to snip, and have reached day 11 now... but don't worry it will be available... Meanwhile I very much recommend the longer video of the Kitazakura-Kokkai bout on day 10 featuring nice nirami-ai. Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted November 24, 2003 Good recommendation Doitsuyama-zeki: I enjoyed that bout. Mental games. Looking forward to the rest of your movies :-)
Manekineko 200 Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) Just to say once more how greatly these lower-ranks videos are appreciated by one lazy cat who doesn't like to rise early in dark winter mornings... :-) I thank my success in Juryo game to Doitsu's heoric efforts! Doitsuyama 1,185 Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) Of course I have not reached day 15 yet, but days 12 and 13 are online now. And quite according to the topic of this thread I very much suggest to view the day 13 bout between Bushūyama-Hayateumi, which proves that the "technique" tried from Kyokushūzan actually can be successful! Even with two damaged knees, I might add... Edited November 24, 2003 by Doitsuyama
Naifuzan 1 Posted November 24, 2003 Doitsuyama, I have a problem with your clips. I just downloaded Bushuyama vs Hayateumi wich is a 9s clip, but the clip doesnt start until after 4 seconds, so when at 9s I've only got to see the first 5 seconds, but the clip stops. Meaning that most of the time I dont get to see the end of the bouts. :-) B-)
Doitsuyama 1,185 Posted November 24, 2003 So now I decided to work overtime and now also the days 14 and 15 are ready and online. @Naifuzan: I don't have this problem. Maybe your connection is too slow? Then you must save the file on your disk, and double click on the file... *rant mode on* Microsoft streaming sucks with small files *rant mode off* @All: But I have no choice, I wasn't able to convert the recorded streams to another format. I'd like you to try to convert one of the files to a preferred format and tell me how you did it...

Asashosakari 19,320 Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) Doitsuyama, I have a problem with your clips. Meaning that most of the time I dont get to see the end of the bouts. B-) :-O In fact, all the clips have several seconds of black screen at the beginning when I play them, so I always assumed that's just a function of the format and/or the way they're created. But they're not missing the end for me, so I guess it's not the same situation you're dealing with... :-) Edit: One thing I should probably mention, the timer runs beyond the expected length, i.e. the Bushuyama-Hayateumi clip actually runs for 13 seconds here, including those 4 seconds of dead air first.
