Guest sumosquall Posted January 2, 2004 (edited) Gee! Am I becoming crazy?! Isn't it weird that someone can dream the same thing twice? ... I dreamt 4 times that I was a sumo wrestler... :-) Maybe it is fate that want me to become one of 'em... (Nodding yes...) Fujisan 533 Posted January 2, 2004 (edited) How old are you if you dont mind me asking Sumosquall? It may be a little late for considering a career in sumo- If you are old enough to be posting on the internet, even if you are no older than our youngest poster(13),it could still be a little late in the day. Manekineko 200 Posted January 2, 2004 Do you do any sport with real intensity? Judo, for example? If not, I doubt the life of professional sumo-wrestler is for you. (Nodding yes...)
Guest sumosquall Posted January 2, 2004 (edited) I'm doing self-defense and fitness. I also met a sumotori at Quebec City... Wandji... I onlu saw him few seconds before he entered a huge mall... I regret that I didn't talk to him that day... Edited January 2, 2004 by sumosquall
Fujisan 533 Posted January 2, 2004 Well you have enough in the height department but 16 is a little late in your life to set off to Japan and train to be a Sumo wrestler-I think anyway.

Guest sumosquall Posted January 4, 2004 I met someone yesterday... He was really fat! I mean, he was looking like a 300 pounds guy! And he was about my age... I don't know why but when he looked at me and said: Hey Man!! It's been long time since we met... I didn't knew who he was then he told me that he used to be my friend when we were at 2nd grade... I didn't knew what to say ... He told me that he's training for becoming a sumo wrestler and I told him "good luck" and just left him alone with his parents... I was then ashemed... ... I don't know why, but when I saw him I was thinking "My god!! A sumo wreslter! at my town! " but when I had to talk with him... I only told him "good luck"... I didn't even took the time to invite him here! ... This is soooo weird... :(
Jesinofuji 11 Posted January 4, 2004 I think most Rikishi who start out in the stables start at 15. I think, though I'm certainly not sure, that the Hawaians were somewhat older when they started out in Sumo, and reading Sentoryu's story, I think he was also out of high school. Many of today's top ranked rikishi have come to Oozumo after success at university Sumo. This is IMHO the best route for a Sumo hopeful to take. From a Japanese University one could do enough sumo to get their foot in the door with learning the Japanese language, getting a degree, in case a life of Sumo didn't work out, and could for a few years avoid the dreaded heya life. Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 4, 2004 I never dreamt I am a rikishi, but I dreamt twice that I went to go and see asageiko. Even in my dream I was tense I might screw up any protocols :-( Thankfully Amanogawa was with me in one of them to keep me from making a gaijin-fool out of myself at Tomozuna-beya :-) Cheers Zenjimoto
Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted January 4, 2004 at Tomozuna-beya There is promise in you! Good choice...any report? Any lasting images? Will you do Lasting Images during Hatsu? Make them Lasting Recorded Images if night owlism violates the principles of the house :-) According to a friend of mine sumowrestlers are put on "eating camps" when they turn 13. There they are fed with fatty food and they'll be fattened up for sumo career.....
Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 4, 2004 (edited) at Tomozuna-beya There is promise in you! Good choice...any report? Any lasting images? Will you do Lasting Images during Hatsu? Make them Lasting Recorded Images if night owlism violates the principles of the house :-) Actually, the remarkable thing was that Chiyotaikai was there for de-geiko and dominated the action. We chatted with him and Sentoryu afterwards for a good while, although I don't really know what about (one topic was Ryan Evans, I remember that). I think I woke up and when I fell asleep again, Kaio was finally also there to train. This was the basho where he had KOSHO due to arm injury, but he looked fine in geiko and also told me afterwards that he is perfectly OK, but will still miss the basho, since he had Kosho status :-( Lasting Images, I don't know yet. Since I am working from home these days it might be easier to watch the recording in the morning and get the LI out, if there aren't too many other pressing work issues to do first :-) Cheers Zenjimoto Edited January 4, 2004 by Zenjimoto
Guest sumosquall Posted January 7, 2004 According to a friend of mine sumowrestlers are put on "eating camps" when they turn 13. There they are fed with fatty food and they'll be fattened up for sumo career..... Are you suggesting me a feeder...?
Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted January 7, 2004 Are you suggesting me a feeder...? If "feeder" refers to a person/device who would feed you with fattening food, then no I am not suggesting that. I am suggesting good keiko no matter if you are going to do sumo or not!
Hashira 0 Posted January 8, 2004 from everything i've seen, the most succesful rikishi tend to enter the heya as skinny, but strong young men, and then add weight at the same time as they add muscle through keiko. i'm no expert, but i would think you can always add weight later, the most important thing to do now would be to find somewhere to learn all the techniques and get into proper sumo shape. if you fight well skinny, any "scout" who saw you would obviously realize that they could add pounds to you, whereas a scout who saw a fat blob with mediocre talent will not be impressed at all. Manekineko 200 Posted January 12, 2004 Eh, I had a sumo-related dream again! I dreamt... that Musashigawa-beya was in my neighbourhood. Really nice place, looked like school, or even better like a school dormitory. I dropped in for a visit, and a deshi cried because Musashimaru sat on his bed and broke it. (My oniisan sat on my bed once and broke it!) Folks at the heya were razzing Buyuzan who looked really handsome in a rugged way and not like Buyuzan at all (reminded me of Kotoinazuma, actually) because he didn't have a girlfriend. They all laughed how he failed to get a fan when he was 17 whom he could marry when he was 27. (Laughing...) I know this is my dream, but it's wierd. Anyway, then a gorgeous corpulent blonde with long hair comes riding on a Harley and honks for Buyzan-Inazuma to come. He does come, lets loose his graying hair (he looks more like Inazuma now) and sits behind the blonde as they drive off into sunset. Musashigawans stay awed and dazed. Luckily for me, I'm a firend of the blonde. Actually, my mom and her mom are friends (Laughing...) so I get invited to the wedding. Although it's not really a wedding, more like engagement party, or some party, anyway. It's outside, in a park, under the trees, and we all have been eating and drinking much. My mom is talking marriage plans with blonde's mum, and Buyu-Inazuma has in the meanwhile tranformed into Bushuyama. Why Bushuyama? Well, I thought he was too handsome to be Buyuzan, so naturally he must be Bushuyama! Bushuyama was somewhat shy, and lots of people wanted to take pictures with the lucky couple. I thought how good it was that I was there, and could finaly have my picture taken with a rikshi! I was happy, and I woke up before I had the picture taken. All people at the party except Bushuyama were caucasian... Bushuyama had really nice eyebrows!
