Treblemaker 254 Posted March 15, 2010 That was one of the most uninspiring and unexciting Day 1's I've ever seen. No passion, ugly sumo. Just the head butts and the earthquake. And the comical Iwakiyama/Kakezoe bout. Sad beginning: Mr. Security Guard Oyakata returning the trophy and flag that should have been in the hands of the yusho winner. And the place, as "sold out" as it apparently was, sounded rather quiet. Even Sakari's power-ups weren't given the usual loud response. Really ugly sumo by Osh, Hak, HF, Kise, Goeido, Mitsuki... The only heros of the day were the broadcast crew in Tokyo who kept going in spite of the rock-n-roll issues. Funniest line of the day: "An earthquake? And YMY's not even on the dohyo..." Congrats to Orion and crew for having the presence of mind to keep going under uneasy circumstances. Well, say hello to (what some members of this forum referred to as) "Purified Sumo". Boy, getting rid of that "Impurity" has really given sumo a real boost in the arm, hasn't it? Finally getting back to its roots, without those nasty influences... Yes sir. Let the excitement begin. Can't wait to see the "drama" play out over the next 2 weeks.
Asashosakari 19,319 Posted March 15, 2010 Blatant (counter-?)troll: Hey, Asashoryu had seven years to wreck sumo, it's not like things are going to be fixed overnight.
Takamizawa 0 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) Really ugly sumo by Osh, Hak, HF, Kise, Goeido, Mitsuki... I agree with your post, but I'll come out in defense of Mitsuki. Maybe my eyes are clouded by love, but breaking that grip and getting inside was sweeet imo. Now let's see him do it against Kise (hopefully). Jonosuke 28 Posted March 15, 2010 Well after all it's only day 1 things could improve. Anyway if anyone missed Asashoryu, it should have affected only one bout so it may be in the eye of beholder. It must have been pretty dull back when Chiyonofuji and the rest of guys were going against each other........
Sokkenaiyama 81 Posted March 15, 2010 Today was better. Hakuho's throw was particularly ferocious.
